Didn't believe it at first. Haven't felt this bad about an industry death for a long time. RIP Mr. Iwata, you were a monument.

May I have a ribbon for Bowser, please? :'(

Here you go!

Could I also get a ribbon please?

Now what will happen? I know there will be someone to replace Iwata, but D: i feel lost and confused as if suddenly Nintendo would crumble and end up changing to something else that isn't Nintendo.

That's correct actually. Sad, right?
It's absolutely awful. If there is one company out there that I feel has the gamers hearts in mind, it's Nintendo. Of course they're all in the business to make money but I never felt like it is their one and only purpose.

Then he responds and it seems very genuine that he felt like he (and Nintendo) let all of us Nintendo fans down.

And now this.

I feel absolutely sick to my stomach right now.

edit: Not sure why I was speaking of Nintendo in the past-tense. Clearly this had an immediate effect on me as though their time has come. My mistake with that, wow.

What's so depressing about this for me is that Iwata was pretty much a living, breathing representation of everything Nintendo stood for as a company.

Thinking back to the Wii and DS eras, both were created because Iwata wanted to create brand new experiences for players that they hadn't experienced before in the face of the growing hardware arms race that he felt wasn't actually doing anything to further the experiences players could have. Whether or not they ended up being what some players wanted (and there certainly were some people who didn't like Nintendo's direction at the time), they became what they were because Iwata wanted to do what he thought was best for games and the people who play them.

Lord knows Iwata and Nintendo could be frustrating in their stubbornness and their inability or refusal to adapt to certain trends. But everything Iwata was about, creating fun games and worlds, developing new experiences for players, and just in general having the time of their lives making whatever they were making, was everything Nintendo was about, and the philosophy that's made so many of my best memories growing up, and have continued to give me countless hours of joy up until this day. And now that he's gone, for the first time, I'm wondering if they're ever going to be quite the same again.

RIP iwata. The industry was better for having you in it.

Just learned he was responsible for Kanto's inclusion in Silver/Gold - one of the biggest wow moments I've ever had. Damn it.

R.I.P. you glorious man and thank you for the memories and experiences.

Just saw the news a few minutes ago. Still in shock. I may not have agreed with some thing Nintendo has done under his leadership but damn I respected the hell out of the guy. Hard to believe he's dead. That's a huge loss for not only Nintendo but the gaming industry and fandom as a whole.

RIP Iwata. You'll be missed.

So so sad. It sinks in more and more as I think about it. He had such a charming, funny personality, I loved watching him speak and present in the directs or at E3 and whatever else... and to think we'll never see or hear any of that from him again is just damned upsetting.

I still can't believe this, I can't believe he's gone. I'm really start to get broken up about this. I may not have personally known him but he still was a great guy and he you could tell he really legitimately cared about Nintendo and the games they made. I really am gonna miss him.

Ever since I saw this news everything I do ends up reminding me of it. No matter what mundane task from watching TV to making supper, my mind keeps wondering back.

I wasn't even sure what to write here. Thank you Iwata, you will be missed.

Yeah looks like Nintendo of America already knew just how ill Iwata was during E3 so maybe they did him a little tribute by adding Balloon Trip on the Championship... who knows.

It definitely adds some context to why Reggie may have responded the way he did to people asking about Iwata's "apology" tweet after the E3 direct, beyond just the usual corporate reasons.

Does anyone have a list of industry comments on this?

Dualshockers has a great one too, google "from-sony-to-microsoft-and-many-more-the-gaming-industry-pays-homage-to-satoru-iwata"

I'd like to see on a thread here but am headed to bed so I won't be able to update it. They are updating their page as well.

Can someone give me a ribbon please?

I've been crying on an off for the past 2 hours. I still don't want to believe it.

I just couldn't believe it when I first saw the news. This man is responsible for so many genuinely joyous moments in my gaming life. I will remember this day as my date of birth, and the day a legend has passed away. Rest in peace, Iwata.

....I kind of want to flood the Smash fighter ballot with requests for Iwata, but I think it's best to remember the man for what he was.

Besides, I can't think of anything more painful for Sakurai than to have to make a friend into a video game.

Same here.

Your avatar is pretty dark and my photoshop skills are actually pretty weak, so this is all I have. I think there was another ribbon posted in here with a white edge, but its buried pretty far back and I can't find it right now. Sorry! If I can find the alternate ribbon, I'll give it another go.
