Now that Sony has signed a deal with Marvel Studios to co-produce future Spider-Man films and introduce Peter Parker into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ll never see there continuation of The Amazing Spider-Man film series. And for most fans, thats a good thing. But what was The Amazing Spider-Man 3 going to be about? The answer to that question is more ridiculous than you imagine. Hit the jump to read a bit about The Amazing Spider-Man 3 plot that will never be.

Denis Leary who played Captain George Stacy in the series, was interviewed by IGN at San Diego Comic-Con International 2015 and he revealed a ridiculous part of the story that would have taken place in the third film. As David Chen would say, Spoilers for a film that will never get made, coming up…

I was disappointed because I’m totally selfish and greedy. I came back briefly in two and possibly in [The Amazing Spider-Man] 3, there was this idea at one point that Spider-Man would be able to take this formula and regenerate the people in his life that had died. So, there was this discussion that Captain Stacy would come back even bigger in episode 3. So I was like, lets go!

And if he’s regenerating people who died, then I’m sure that would include Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy as well, right? To be fair, characters come back from the dead almost every week in the comic books, but I’m not sure anyone would have enjoyed seeing George Stacy’s resurrection in the movies. I think the fans right now want something more grounded and less “comic booky”, which is what The Amazing Spider-Man series had become (Electro is a prime example of this). Also we should note that this is just idle talk from an actor from a conversation that probably took place during the filming of the second film. This is not something that was definitely written into a script as far as we know.

Leary goes on to say how great it was to work with director Marc Webb, who he called a “real actor’s director.” To be fair, I believe if you look at the scenes between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, that is where you see Webb’s real work in the Spider-Man films. Many fans don’t understand how much control the studio and producers had on those films.

The Amazing Revival-Man sounded dumb tbh, but it would have been nice to see the trilogy end. 3 could have been great, the first wasn't terrible. ASM2 really hurt Sony I guess.

I bet the cast of the new Fantastic 4 movie thought it would be fantastic as well. That is until they actually made the movie.

Exec: "Mr. Webb, could you update us on your story treatment for ASM3?"

Marc Webb: "It's really good guys. Like...Spider-Man will bring people back from the dead with like...zombie juice or something. It'll be great!"

Exec: "That'll do Mr. Webb...That'll do....Gentlemen...Call Marvel Studios ASAP."

This whole sentence is like someone saying "Poop is objectively tasty".

Also no, I don't want a "grounded in reality" Spiderman. TAS movies completely nailed the comic books aspect and Spidey's humor/wits

webb is not the writer, are you dumb or something?

I am so glad this shit reboot is dead. Fuck me, other than Garflied good at Spidey quips (tho crap at Parker) and the spot on suit in ASM2, it was a fucking shitshow.

Where they find these talentless Hollywood hack writers is beyond me. Its not hard to read a couple volumes of a fucking comic and get to grips with it.

I got the feeling Webb had very little control over the series. He seems very humble whenever he's interviewed about them.

this, harD

No it's more like:

Marc Webb: "Hey Mr. Exec, could you update me on your story treatment for ASM3?"

Exec: "It's really good guy. Like...Spider-Man will bring people back from the dead with like...zombie juice or something. It'll be great!"

Marc Webb: "Uh...That'll do....Gentlemen... You better call Marvel Studios ASAP."

If this was true, I bet it was because the studio wanted to bring back Emma Stone.

Did ASM3 really get canned because of the lead of spiderman? Why was he disrespecting the higher ups anyway?

It got canned because ASM2 massively underperformed.

I did like how bonkers the ASM films were. Loved how "comic booky" they were.

Webb didn't write it, jeez. Replace Webb with Vanderbilt.

I really liked 2 and that sounds super dumb. Gives the ending of 2 a different dimension, he wasn't really mourning over Gwens grave he was busy trying to come up with how to bring her back as a zombie.

I remember rumors of Mary Jane being played by Emma Stone. ASM3 would have been crazy.

Wasn't that a plot point in the Ultimate Universe? Never read the actual issues, but Spidey's blood, I think, had regenerative properties up to back from dead.

I find almost everything about the ASM films completely baffling.

I really don't know who those films were made for. It's like they were specifically designed to completely underwhelm everyone.

I kinda wish they would have gotten the chance. I mean I didn't really enjoy the first or second Amazing Spider-Man, but I imagine the third would have been an all out train wreck. I want something to wash the taste of Spider-Man 3 out of my mouth. Something even more vile and ridiculous.
