Alright guys, I'm ready to be shunned from this community. I took pictures instead of a video, because why the hell would I take a video

I appreciate alphabetical order as much as the next guy, but yikes man. How does it not drive you crazy to have the publishers all mixed together? Am I alone on this? I have my shelves sorted Publisher - Alphabetical. I can't fathom doing it any other way.

Alphabetical is overrated, books do not get special treatment in my organizing fun-time just because of their first letter.

So how do you organize them? Chronologically?

O_______O no! Publisher and series/character are the only guidlines, then just enjoy the organizing. Which books are good enough to get best shelf placement? Nobody wants to live on the bottom of a large shelf stack.

Now that i redid my OHC bookcase i'm moving on to my cubical stack, two 3x3s stacked on top each other for tpbs/standard hardcovers. It's fairly bad and has been for awhile.

for all y'all fans of #value : the Batgirl Annual is basically four issues worth of Bat-crossovers into one single oversized annual.

that's fucking great #value right there that's my shit

I do publisher, size, alphabetical. Meaning my Image deluxe hardcovers will all be together and alphabetized, and then my Image tpbs will be next, and alphabetized.

I just try to make it look neat. I don't stress what goes where because I know I'll have to rearrange in a few months anyways. I need to pick up a new shelf or two soon.

Twitter, ComicBookResources, and that's it really. I like CBR because there isn't a whole lot of agenda pushing. Just some enthusiast stuff and "matter of fact" information that drops and summaries of con news, ect.

CBR
Newsarama
Comicvine
IGN
Bleeding Cool

Though it must be noted, I approach Bleeding Cool as one would a tabloid.

I get all my news here and I read solicits on CBR.

Zombine and CBR.

my trusted comics news sources are basically NeoGAF and Twitter. i google the solicits when they come out and use whatever site has the full ones i'm looking for

Thanks for the responses.

I hope to fill up this shelf in the next few months and get something bigger.

Ya'll are making me rethink my organizing scheme... I like alphabetical, but I'm wondering how by publisher > character > alphabetical would look. I may play around with it when I'm bored.

I think the main thing that people forget when it comes to collections of anything is that it's quality over quantity. Your collection is your own personal extension of your identity, and I really respect the diversity of what you own and how everything is very much based on what you have or are currently enjoying, and not just trying to fill your shelves with stuff. I can tell that you really dig D. Gray Man, and that's something I wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if you had a collection of say 40 different manga or whatever.

Everyone comes from different backgrounds with varying degrees of disposable income, and I don't think that it's far to judge someone's collection based on the volume of unread paper on your shelf. Yours is a really great start, and I think eventually as you continue to grow you'll fill those shelves up just fine.

Before I started this hobby I owned 3 books: Miller's Ronin, Watchmen, and that Joker OHC. Now I'm like the fruit guy.

That's really well put. I would say, even putting aside the practicality of not having enough space, it's important to be choosy when it comes to collections. I haven't actually been the best at that, as there are definitely a few books in there that I've read and regretted buying. But recently, I've definitely fallen into this mindset - collect the things I know I'll love, just read the rest through other means. To even specify that further, I'm starting to fall into the mindset of "I'll wait till the series has been collected in a hardcover" or into a collection that I feel I'll enjoy more owning. I don't mind trades at all, but I love hardcovers. They're really superior. If I can wait it out or if I haven't already started a collection in trade, I'll wait it out.

So, I was bored and I decided to do an image search for Joe Mad's stuff because the Battlechasers game thread got a bump, and I stumbled across this:

Dude draws the HELL out of the Joker.

Is it written by the same team? If so, nah not interested.

Also why did they release this in the same week as a new issue?

God damn I just freaking love everything he does. That new 3D model is amazing as well. It looks like that game is shaping up to fall somewhere between Diablo, Gauntlet, and Pillar of Eternity.

Since everyone's posting and I bought a new shelf and reorganised this past weekend too, here's my collection as of today.

TPBs

OHCs and floppies and a couple of oversized special editions.

Top half of new shelf. (Oddly sized books)

Bottom half of new shelf. (Absolutes, Omnibuses and hardcovers).

Manga shelf - top half

Manga shelf - bottom half

Have a few more books en route. Some Asterix volumes, zenith volumes 1 -3 and BPRD volumes 1 through 3.

ComicsGAF help me out....

So I still need to read Blackest Night (I try to collect most of DC's and Marvel's big events) and I see that the Green Lantern omnibus that released this week covers BN but doesn't have Blackest Night #8. Is the issue essential?

The only 2 hardcovers of Blackest Night I don't have are actual event and the GL tie-in issues. So this omnibus seems like a good option, but I don't know.

Should I buy the omnibus?

I rewatched Hellboy 1 and 2 recently, and wanted to read more Abe Sapien. So jumped in on the volumes.

The omnibus does have #8 too. I understand the initial solicitations were printed incorrectly.

If you ever think you will buy the omnibus, you should buy it this week. Instocktrades has it for 50% off.

Edit: Here's an image of the TOC someone posted on Facebook.

So Captain Marvel is public domain now?

Apparently the only restriction is his likeness has to be like Fawcett's, you can't use the name Shazam or Captain Marvel on the cover, but the interior is fine.

All these posts about shelving made me motivated to reshare mine with updated pics.

My setup is i have two bookshelves in the bedroom but then I ran out of room and it spilled into my "Library" which is my room in the house dedicated to my videogames, DVDs, comics, books, etc. The Library still needs to be organized

Wow, you have some truly amazing gems in there!! :O That AoA Omnibus is a white whale for a lot of people.

Beautiful! Love that Starman set, super jelly!

Seeing people's collections genuinely makes me happy. Not only as a comic reader, but as a fan of collected editions, seeing pictures like these truly bring a smile to my face.

I'd post newer pictures of my set up, but I'm pretty sure I've littered enough of our threads with my room pics hahaha

Man, I just started Unknown Soldier. How the hell has Dysart flown so under the radar for all these years? Dude is a gem of a writer.

I spy a Bleach manga. Sorry man, the amazingness has been nullified.

hah yea those were from a while back. I also have a couple office boxes of other manga. I'm really getting close to boxing it all up. I don't find manga to be impressive shelf porn and it takes up too much space

All those unread books on the shelf....
Yea a lot of the spillover was from some big IST splurges last fall. I'll get to them!

Shelf porn? Mine is a little more reserved but there's so much I want to eventually own I'm sure my meager collection will balloon up like my mangoes.

GKetter your room is awesome but all I keep seeing is a shelf full of Darth Vader heads..
