Sony FY2015 Q1 (PS4: 3.0m shipped) PS4 total = 25.3m shipped worldwide

Things may change next year. While E3 2016 starts on June 14, gamescom 2016 will start on August 17th. Which puts it more in the usual distance between the events.

I think that is why they are trying to set Morpheus now, as it will be a great temperature test for the next console's design. People have had the pipe dream for some time but Sony could make the ultimate Steam Machine as well. Just make it Steam OS, and all of Sony WWS games would be available on Steam OS exclusively. Technically meaning you wouldn't have to own a Playstation to play Sony games, but those that like a home console would have an accessible and widely distributed Steam Box that is console like and with a custom UI.

Of course this would may backwards compatibility difficult unless they VIrtual Machine the PS4

By making a Steam machine Sony would basically give up their entire market for absolutely no reason, it's the stupidest move Sony could ever do business-wise, their only revenue sources would be from hardware with extremely small profit margins, & first party games where they're gonna have to give up 30% of the revenue. In this quarter alone their revenue (PS division) is nearly equal to the total estimated value of Valve Corporation, If they're gonna make a Steam machine, they'll be basically giving that revenue to Valve for free (All the licensing fees publishers pay Sony right now would go to Valve).

tis a shame

i suppose they did go pretty all out at e3

They've got four major conferences every year, including this one, so that really doesn't matter. All they've done is reschedule their usual Gamescom conference to Paris Game Week in October (which coincidentally just so happens to be the perfect time for a price drop).

Yeah is PlayStation.dead if it becomes a Steam machine. Also all their games become much easier to pirate.

I didn't say they didn't take it seriously. I didn't say they half-ass it.

If you consider going "all in" that they do more than half-assing or taking it seriously then that is your interpretation of that phrase.
I don't know why one would use that specific phrasing when one didn't mean to use the poker analogy (which is also known as betting the farm) but life is about choices.
I don't feel like continuing to argue semantics. I rest my case. Everything is all in all the time.
meh Personally, I don't think of going all in and betting the farm as the same thing either. When you go all in, you put in all of the money you planned to wager that evening, plus maybe your watch as a token of desperation if the other guy has way more money than you. If you go all in and lose, you go home and fuck your wife. If you bet the farm and lose, you have no home, and probably aren't gonna have that wife too much longer either.

But, whatever, I guess. :)

I didn't realise posting your own show floor videos for on topic coverage or information, was regarded as self promotion. Those videos were great for getting a glimpse in to coverage at the Chinese show.

I think the ToS could maybe be a bit more explicit, possibly with examples. I mean, I believe it's not bannable self promotion to post your own gameplay videos in the OT's for games for example, even if theoretically you could make money from people watching them (though highly unlikely as not many people from here actually view such videos).

Agreed. It doesn't really work, when the rules aren't followed. For example, people can post spoilers without getting banned, eventhough it's forbidden in the posting etiquette section.

It feels so weird i didnt even realise gamescom conferences were tomorrow. No sony made the significance of GC this year drop for me :/

Hopefully. Yoshida better get his pillow ready.

LOL, no. Horizon: Zero Dawn and Dreams were the only new first-party (non-Morpheus) games they announced. Far from going all out.

As others have mentioned, E3 and Gamescom are very close to each other this year and Sony has Tokyo Games Show and Paris Games Week conferences left for 2015 and very likely another Playstation Experience too.

Re-announcing The Last Guardian was huge. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake was huge. I say they went balls to the wall, even if they only showed 2 new non-Morpheus games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not downplaying Sony's E3 press conference, it was amazng. My comment was about Sony "going all out" at E3 being the reason for no press conference at Gamescom. There's obviously a lot of reasoning behind the decision to move their European briefing to Paris in October. Gamescom being closer to E3 this year, having PGW conference on the same day as Halo 5 launch to steal the headlines, good time to announce a pricecut, etc.

Interesting graph, if nintendo didn't drop support with the wii after was it 2011? Would it have finished just below the PS2?

Cause it seemed the wii was sellng a lot better than the ps2, but the latters legs were much longer.

Also congrats PS4, it will do better than the PS3, thats for sure.

We already know sony has not got big first party exclusive game to go agains Halo 5 this holiday (UC4 delayed ) and this event (launch day of Halo 5) with some game announcements and price drop going to bring huge momentum for PS4 especially europe where Sony is dominating can completely remove XB1 from gamers mind as an option just like Japan.

Highly unlikely, PS2 attracted both casual & core gamers. The Wii meanwhile struggled in attracting the core gamers.

Sony's secret weapon confirmed

The sarcasm is strong with this post.

regardless of designations, bloodborne being so high up there is indeed an interesting fact, above farcry4 and GTAV

Amazon only represents about 10% of the total retail sales in the US according to Aqua, & it generally leans towards "core" games, so I wouldn't look too much into that.

Bloodborne was cited in Sony's earning calls by the Sony CFO as one of their breakout titles, alongside Uncharted and TLOU.

It's clearly a huge success for Sony.
not to get too off topic, but there is another thread going on right now about bb being a bad souls game (even though it isn't even one) so if bb did turn into a series do you think people would complain that it would be a series too similar to souls?

Like this means anything lol. If E3 2015 wasnt a company going all out then its nigh impossible for a company to go all out.

What do you mean with "going all out". Showing everything they got coming?
I mean, we know their 1st party studios and we know when they last released something, so its not too hard to figure out which studio is due for an announcement and there are quite a few serious contenders for a 2016 release, even though we haven't heard anything from them yet.

Again, my comment was about Sony "having no games left to show" being the reason for not having a press briefing at Gamescom. They could have easily shown a bunch of CGI trailers, ambiguous teasers etc. if they wanted to go "all out" and not show anything new for the rest of the year. But they didn't. They are taking their time with new announcements. IIRC, Andrew House has even said that PS4 and third party games are selling so well that they don't have pressure to rush out their first party titles.
