I've been keeping an eye on this for a while because the dev frequents /cgg/.

Whatever this is as a game is probably a long ways off. I remember them claiming that it was supposed to be an ARPG which you honestly wouldn't be able to tell from any of this.

Played a bit of the demo. Works with a 360 gamepad

X - Arms, Y - Legs, B - Teleport dash/dodge, A - jump
Right Button - Grab, Right Bumper - Sprint
Left Button - Shoot, Left Bumper - Some kind of evasion dash

It's fast. Really fast. You get a really good sense of the speed when you lock onto any enemy and circle each other while sprinting

There are a sizable amount of unlockable attacks, plus you can customize your combos.

For an alpha, there're already a super solid gameplay foundation here

Good lord. This is the anime game that I have always wanted.

I'm thinking of the combo vid potential for this game. The Demo is PC only at the moment right? NVM it is. Hope it makes its way to consoles though.

EDIT:

It's probably to soon for hype building but this was my emotional state after seeing the trailer again:

Sweet jesus... this is basically the game I would have tried to make had I ever attempted to get into game development. A character action game/brawler that scales from duels to massive musou fights

The gifs and moveslist customization blurb were intriguing; then I checked the website and read that they plan on having a story mode, boss fights, areas to explore. Totally on board now.

Only issues I have (outside of random UI/"It's an Alpha" complaints) is that the jump speed seems too fast. Now, I'm ok with fast jumps and all that but you shoot up super fast, then fall much slower. I'd be ok with a slightly slower jump up.

Will keep my eye on this though. Seems to be a bug in the shop where you can just buy anything regardless of the amount of money you have. You just go into the negatives.

I dont get why more people arent commenting on this. It seems like the dragonball action game that never happened. That should of happened. The fast, epic and challenging combat that has never been done outside of movies and anime series.

Niiice. That looks really cool.
Only problems with thinks like this is how to fill it with content so it doesn't stay a nice (tech)demo you play for 2 hours and then there is nothing new to do.

Their vision for the game is certainly ambitious
We want to make We Shall Wake the best action game, with the best combat system we can, but, we feel like, traditionally, action games tend to be a series of arenas and fights, with little else going on. And there's never been an open world game with a fighting system approaching the depth and quality of our favorite action brawlers. That's what we want We Shall Wake to be, an open world game that's fun to explore, with factions and characters that are fun and meaningful to interact with outside of jumpkicks; all wrapped around the core of a true action game combat system, with all the exciting boss fights, interesting enemies, and brutal difficulty that you expect from the best Brawlers in the genre.
I hope they don't end up biting off more than they can chew, because I somewhat agree with their sentiments and would greatly want such a product they're describing.

Sounds like what I wanted Scalebound to be before they showed gameplay for it.

Hoping with all my heart they can succeed.

Gave it a go. Combat system shows promise. It's definitely very anime compared to something like Prototype, but I don't think that's a bad thing, mostly just in the way you animate and move. It's got a great sense of speed. I think the flow between combat and movement needs to be a bit more cohesive for my taste, as you kinda stall and go into combos when attacking. Lofty comparison, but the flow of Bayonetta would be more apt. I also feel in a game where the enemies are quite aggressive it wouldn't hurt to have some kind of counter move.

But yeah, I mean, they've got the right idea and showing it with an alpha. So they've caught my interest.

Dev isn't on GAF, but I've been chatting with him. Says he's happy that people are interested in the game and, more importantly, interested enough to check out the demo. No details on the kickstarter yet. Greenlight campaign starting soon. Basically, a lot of work to do

I remember playing the like proto alpha file when Brayden was throwing around in the cgg community like a year ago.

It was super awesome, I'm glad things are going well!
