The official NeoGAF cartel! - If you want to be a part of the NeoGAF cartel, leave your username AND character name in the thread and I'll shoot you an invite! Be sure to link your game to a Kabam ID, as it seem that that may be what allows for cross-platform play. Once I confirm that I've sent the invite, go to the cartels menu, click "join" and then "search cartels" to find and accept the invite.

THE CARTEL IS NOW FULL - From now on, new people who wish to be a part of the cartel will be added to a waiting list. Players currently in the cartel who remain inactive for 5 consecutive days will be removed and replaced with the person on the top of the waiting list. This will keep the cartel fresh and active.

On the game's business model:

GamesBeat: Is this going to be a free-to-play game?

Erickson: This is a free-to-play game, yes. Kabam RPG is dedicated to doing what we call “white hat free-to-play.” We come at it very much from a “there are no pay gates” angle. There is never something that doesn’t drop in the world. There is never any time you would have to pay. Our players pay because they are incredibly involved, because they are paying against the grind. They say, hey, I’d rather take a roll of this for premium currency than I would to hunt down that boss and hope I get the drop. The first game we did was Spirit Lords. There were things in there that still smelled to our players of free-to-play games, where they had bad experiences. We did work on the stamina system. We’ve removed anything you see — as a walk-in, first impression — that looks like free-to-play done in a way that people have not liked in the RPG space.

GamesBeat: What kind of things would people be buying?

Erickson: We still have a system where you can go to the supply guy and get random rolls for loot and gear. But all that loot and gear also drops out in the world. Through the sector battle system you can go in and — you basically run scouting missions to get battle plans, and you use those to do really high-powered missions and get the most victory points. You can pay directly for that if you want. If you don’t want to do the work to get the battle plans, you can directly pay through with the premium currency and just do you battle plans. Everything is either about maximizing what you’re doing at the moment or saving yourself time in the aggregate.

Subscribed... gonna dig into the game soon. I have it installed and opened it to login and it runs very slow on my nexus 5... :/

wish they would give us a windows store version that works on Windows 10

For those of you who aren't sure about the whole free-to-play model; I've played about an hour so far and haven't even seen where I could buy premium currency. I'm progressing at a perfectly normal pace, and it doesn't really even feel like a mobile game to me. As someone who hates mobile games generally, this is a very pleasant surprise (though this all could change as I progress further).

A+ thread name

I downloaded it and put a little time in it.

Before this came out, I thought "how can they make money off of this if its as fair as they are claiming" but after playing for a bit, you have the option of making quests harder for better rewards, but it takes gems to revive you which I'm sure cost real world dollars. I'm not sure how much of the game offers a fair gameplay path but I see a point where eventually you would be unable to play any missions without going back and grinding or buying upgrades.

That being said, I'll probably play it here and there for a little while.

I'm around level 14 or so at the moment, and it really hasn't had that "give me money" moment yet. It's not the deepest experience in the world (open gate, shoot bad guys, open gate) but it scratches a particular itch. The whole Star Wars angle doesn't exactly hurt either.

I haven't seen the big gamewide PvE system in action yet; just did some of the quests that I guess are the preliminaries.

Oh, here's the link to the game guide:

I made a boring generic human, thinking of starting over with something more interesting before I get too deep if that's possible.

Thanks, guide's been added to the OP.

I'm glad to hear that it seems to stay unobnoxious with its business model. As for the simplicity, I'm actually glad that's how it is. It's just involving enough that I don't feel like I'm playing a mindless mobile game, but just simple enough that I can bang out a mission or two while I'm waiting for a class to start or something.

Heads up to everyone; it seems like you start out the game with 300 units of the premium currency. You can unlock extra character slots for 150 a piece (which is what I just did. Making a Zabrak alt character because my human is boooooooooring looking).

Tap to move? Hate that style of game play. :(
You can also hold down in the direction you want the character to move so you don't need to repeatedly tap (very similar to the mouse controls in Diablo or other similar games).

Is there a NeoGAF guild to join yet?
Nope, I was just about to make one once I figure out how. I'll post info once I get it up.

Edit: Anyone know what menu I have to go to to start a cartel? I may just need to level a couple more times, in which case I'll have it set up very soon.

What should the name of our cartel be? Is just "NeoGAF" fine?

Edit: Ahhhh, it'll have to be. The character limit blocks most any other decent sized words.

Okay, so the cartel has been started. It's closed so we don't get randos joining left and right, so if you want in just let me know what your user name is and I'll invite you (I don't know if it's your character name or your account name, so we may need to work a few kinks out)

Happy to see a thread about this! I've been playing the beta for a few weeks now, and happy to see it finally launch. It's been a pretty fun time waster. Definitely has a lot of potential, but for now, getting Vanilla destiny vibes from the gameplay and "story". Not super grabbing, but not totally terrible either.

Hmm.. Got to be more creative with that cartel name... Currently a member of the "Pizza Cartel"; Pizza is life ;)

A Kabam game?

I guess this is another one of those PVP build a base games. Played the LOTR one and it was not very compelling to play.

Edit: Oh, it's not another one of Kabam's base pvp games. I might try it.

Nope, Star Wars Commander is the Clash of Clans clone. This is a top down Diablo-esque action RPG.

I wanted to be more creative, but I wanted the name to have "NeoGAF" in it, the character limit just cut off any other good titles I could've used. I was going to use "NeoGAF Nerf Herders", but I could only fit "NeoGAF Nerf He".

I've been playing it on the IPhone I'm liking it. Has a motor vibe to it.

Add me to the Neogaf Cartel username is djay135

I just installed the game. Please add me, NeoCakes. I am on Android

Edit: named my twi'lek character Oola Vao because I don't have much creativity in me tonight.

Hmmm, I cant seem to find you. Bear with me, I'm still getting used to the way the account system works in this game. What's your characters name? Maybe that's what I have to search.

Edit; You may have to make a Kabam account. Click on settings and then Kabam ID under login options. That may be the issue. From what I just read, the game is cross platform between iOS and Android (I'm on Android, so that's probably why I can't find you right now), but only if you link the game to a Kabam ID.

Anyone know if this will be released on the Amazon App Store for play on Kindle Fire?

edit - also if you can add by character name, mine is Gendo Ikari. Please add! :D

Oh man! I forgot this was coming out! So glad I saw this thread. Hopefully this concept translated well into a game.

Username is Chelmo, character name is Jira Lenara. Add me please.

I'd like an invite please!
Amaril Starlight

Char name is Tyren Vand. Would also like an invite!
Just sent invites to everyone. Let me know if you got them. They should've sent, but the game gives no feedback to let you know for sure.

I'm off to bed, but I'll send invites to those of you who post between now and then, and double check that those of you that I sent invites to just now actually got them.

My bad I think it's djay130

Huh, that was weird.

I didn't get any notifications of an invite.

But, when I went to the Cartel screen (that lil' blue button on the right, just under the planet map button) clicked Join, then clicked Search Cartels I had the invite waiting for me.

So one last thing before I go to bed; as adj_noun said above, apparently you don't get a notification when I send the invite, but it seems like you have to go to the cartels menu (the button to the right of the screen with little people) and then click join and search cartels to find the invite.

Please add me to the cartel! I'm Vela as username, Vela Starflurry as a character. Thanks!
Username is just TheYanger :) Character is Marz Barz
Sent!

I'm intrigued by this so i've created a character, my username is DamagedInc and my character is Eddie Ead f I can get an add please?

My character's name is Dark Twain and user name is same as here. I guess this is ok for a time waster, if it weren't for the SW license, I normally wouldn't bother. A bit difficult to find guilds, still have no idea where to look.

This feels like one of those games I'll play for two days and then forget it's on my phone until browsing my apps a year from now.
