That’s the warning from leading games testing firms, who insist too many publishers have not learnt their lessons from Q4 last year, which saw a number of titles arriving with game-breaking issues, such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection, DriveClub and Assassin’s Creed Unity.

“The run up to this Christmas will be no different to the last one,” Pole to Win localisation director Chris Rowley warned.

Babel’s functionality QA director Mathieu Lachance added: “We’ll see many games launching with large errors and bugs. It’s impossible to release a flawless game.

Universally Speaking QA manager James Cubitt says that there has been some improvement from game creators, but it’s still not enough.

If someone had the time I wonder if it's possible to find who their clients are.

Broken games at launch is my biggest deterrent against pre-ordering. Not to mention when the game is patched 2 months later AND the cost of the game gets lowered. It's a double-slap to the face.

Think this could be a pressure tactic done by the testing companies so their clients spend bigger amounts of money on heavier testing done by them.

I'm scared for Fallout 4. Especially on consoles. That's why I hope Persona 5 comes out this year, so I can give Fallout 4 two months to fix the worst bugs and glitches.

I wonder what the big culprits will be this year?

Maybe we can turn it into a game? Bingo maybe?

I'm personally betting on Battlefront, Halo 5, AC:Syndicate and Rise of the Tomb Raider, personally.

I bet in a major shocker, Fallout 4 doesn't have major progression bugs.

The sky is blue.

Recently rated 90+ metacritic games were extremely buggy (witcher) and/or launched with game breaking bugs (mgsv)

Yeah Fallout 4 has got to be a candidate here - along with AC and Battlefront - the track records aren't good.

Considering how much that tarnished Halo and Assassin's Creed brands last year, I doubt it. I mean the Halo 5 beta ran pretty great, unlike MCC. I don't think we have to worry about Halo 5 being a mess. The CoD black ops 3 beta ran great, and Battlefront will have one in October.

As for Assassin's Creed Syndicate, they definitely won't tolerate another Unity style game. Though I agree, games development this gen has been subpar in my experience. Very few games have been bug free. I wonder if it's the systems or the games that have issues. Even something like Arkham Knight, 3 people I know have had issues like they just fall through the city. I'm hearing from a few friends Mad Max has been buggy for them.

I'm curious as to what this firm has tested and seen. These days, games are launching with crazy day one patches. I know Halo 5 is forgoing things like BTB at launch so that they can spend all their time and resources optimizing Arena and Warzone for launch.

Fallout 4 has me worried. If Persona 5 is out anytime in that vicinity (lol) I may hold off. FO4 is gonna be great next year when mods pile up.

Halo should be fine. Aside from MCC which was Frankenstein's mess made by outsourced teams, Halo games have a good track record of working on day one. Plus there was a beta.

I fully anticipate battlefront to not work correctly until 2016 and fallout 4 to be plagued by crashes, save corrupts, and all manner of problems on my console (whichever one I pick it up on)

I feel Star Wars Battlefront is a good candidate for it. I think Syndicate will actually be good performance wise this time.

Also, if Fallout 4 has serious issues, I will say they're not good developers in that regard.

Have they fixed MCC yet?

Better question. WILL THEY fix MCC?

I think AC and Halo are probably safe, they're still hurting after last year.

Bethesda hasn't learned after multiple disasters, I'd say they're the prime candidate. They'd deserve the backlash honestly.

Battlefront will have an open beta though, so hopefully most bugs/glitches/server issues will be handeled before the game launches.

SHOCKING NEWS

I'm going to say games having external testing probably won't be bad. Need for speed, call of duty, halo, and Star Wars are all going to or already had decent sized testing from the players for servers.

I'm going to say fallout, assassins creed, and probably nba 2k16 next week.

New year is already feeling crowded. If any games slip then it will be even more painful than usual. You've got Deus Ex, Battleborn, XCOM 2 and Lego Marvel releasing. Wonder if we'll see another Batman type affair? No clients listed on the PoleToWin website but Babel have worked with pretty much every major publisher in the business. I also wonder to what extent outsourcing contributes to this problem. Easy to point the finger at the publisher for managing projects badly but I have to imagine the cost cutting by outsourcing QA around the world doesn't really help.
Is anyone surpised by this?
Can't ever have a news thread without people's lack of surprise coming up.

Please don't let it be Just Cause 3. The fact that they aren't releasing until the first week of December makes me worry that they are pushing hard for Xmas and that the game may not be ready.

Delay it if you need to guys. I don't mind.

Betting on Fallout 4 and Star Wars to be this year's biggest broken pieces of shit. Battleborn will be the surprise lemon. Deus Ex is 60/40 to not work properly.

I think Halo 5, BLOPS 3 and AC might be relatively stable out of the box.

My gut feeling is Battlefront will be mostly fine, but to be safe I doubt I'll pre-order.

I trust Atlus so I'll be pre-ordering Persona 5 though.

Please stop telling other people how to spend their money, folks

That was a request, not a demand.

Bethesda of course, Assassin's Creed of course. Halo, and perhaps Battlefront [remember the Battlefield 4 server fiasco?].

What games am I missing?

I'd tell people not to pre order but they'll say not to tell them what to do with their money. The reason I'm not excited for fallout 4 is because of how buggy Bethesda games usually are so I wouldn't be surprised if it was pretty fucked at launch.

It isn't the lack of QA testing that is causing buggy games to be released. Devs and publishers KNOW that the game is broken and exactly what the major bugs are, they simply refuse to delay the release of the game in order to fix them.
