Let it be known I was wrong. I believed in Atlus, and their statement was indeed false.

That said... I don't really care. Game looks cool, I've got an infinite number of other things to do in the mean time, and I'm glad they're pouring extra time into it so it's as good as it deserves to be.

I am curious though, just for novelty's sake, why PR insisted so hard on 2015 release. Was there a miscommunication? Was someone in the company lying?

it's not that it's delayed till early 2016... summer 2016 is 9 more months till the japanese release... and could be a year long wait till the US release... and an early 2017 EU release...

there's no way they were saying 2015 2015 confirmed if they need almost a whole year.

Atlus are dumb enough to release it in the FFXV timeframe.

I doubt that. P5 pretty much is a PS3 game with an upressed PS4 port. Worst case scenario, west only gets the digital version.
won't the PS3 version of Dragon Quest Heroes be comming out of japan?

This is disappointing. The delay itself is what it is, what pisses me off is the lies they've been doubling down on for ages regarding the release date.

I think they(Atlus USA) honestly thought that it would be releasing in 2015. Of course, I believed that about as much as I believe a Square Enix release date.

Wasn't P5 initially announced for 2014? Then when they announced a PS4 version they also announced a delay to 2015.

Second delay in as many years. Disappointing.

didnt someone confirm only a couple of weeks ago that it was still coming this year worldwide? Why keep up the lie for so long

No one was lying maliciously, and no one was "doubling down." Until the delay was officially announced they had to maintain the company position of 2015. This is how marketing and PR work. People need to stop putting Atlus on a pedestal, they're a developer like any other.

Yes, and why? That's the million dollar question. Why not just keep quiet?

They weren't under any obligation to login to NeoGAF and talk about 2015, but they still did. It just feels strange to do that.

I thought it would come out this year too but I guess that isn't the case. I don't mind though. I want it to be fantastic and looks like in the video they really improved some UI.

They're very different kind of games from different pubs. MGSV would be more comparable at this point.

Probably because they themselves didn't know of the delay or were forced to keep quiet.

Man, I just realized this game is being released like 10 years after Persona 3. Jesus that's a long time. And it feels just like yesterday that the game came out.

It will also be the first Atlus RPG on console in a while.

Given their exceptional output on PS2, it's just sad.

*hugs Miyamoto quote for comfort*

Still a stupid quote. Duke Nukem Forever was delayed for ages and we remember how that turned out.

A delayed game might eventually be good. A rushed game is probably bad forever. Unless it's fixed and massively overhauled.

Not that I fear P5 being bad. I just hate that quote being whipped out anywhere.

Ugh, this wouldn't sting as much if we didn't have Atlus USA reps ASSURING us as recently as August that it would be out this year.
This is the worst part about it and i honestly dont blame hardin he probably honestly thought it was still coming because the guy seem to darn sure in the persona thread. It seems like a case of atlus Japan just keeping hush hush so long for no damn reason

Goddamnit. I mean I'd rather the game come out as good as can be than have it rushed this year, but it's just annoying after all the insistence on it making 2015.

Oh well. At least that new trailer is looking hot.

If P3FES and P4 Golden were ever HD remastered for PS4.....my god. I'd be so over the moon.

What? Why? It's just a worse version of the thing.

Maybe he has a PS3 but not a PS4? Just a thought.
P3 and P4 HD remasters for PS4...
I'm still trying to think of what they'd actually do to them. Persona 3 is easy, couple the P3P and FES content, but 4? Just a straight port to PS4? Even with a definitive edition of Persona 3 I don't think I could get excited for it. I've already played those games a ton, and the exact same thing on a newer system wouldn't tide me over for a year until Persona 5.

Full remakes? Definitely, but that's never happening.

What on earth happened during development that caused such a long ass delay D:

  • Atlus ownership changed hands from a corrupt Index corporation to Sega.
  • The brunt of Persona 4: Dancing All Night development shifted from Dingo to P Studio due to unknown issues.
  • Persona 5 was first announced as a PS3 game and then as a PS4 game later on, so platform decisions and changes were probably a factor.
That's some of it.
