In May, harSon opened a thread, the purpose of which was to decide once and for all which was the greatest film of all-time (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1040632).

Unfortunately, harSon never posted the results. Shiera Seastar, mariachi507 and myself took it upon ourselves to collate the votes and produce this thread. I cannot thank the other two enough; much of the work was done by them, particularly mariachi507, who more than compensated for my laziness.

Yes, there is a black line at the bottom of Lawrence of Arabia's picture that will haunt me to my dying day. No, there will be no recounts.

Please enjoy.

Probably more accurate than the IMDB one... (Edit: I wrote this without knowing the above posts!)

64. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 55
66. The Avengers 55

Correct.

All the right names, possibly not in the right order, but there or thereabouts.

270. Shaun of the Dead 14

Hang on a sec...

Kudos to all involved.

Quite possibly the only Top 10 on GAF that I have little to no problem with.

Awaiting the salt from The Dark Knight being in the top 10 though. Dis gun b good.

Goddamn that was awhile ago, cool of you and the others to do this. The list is about as expected, if we did this again I actually think that I would change my entire list.

That's "Dr." dofry to you.

Can't argue with the voting no matter how overrated the movie is. Heath Ledger the movie with batman as the sidekick. Deserves recognition for his performance, as a movie not so much.
But that said, it's a fairly good list of excellent movies overall. Did not vote but my no. 1 is always Casablanca. I'm a sucker for romance.

My first and overriding thought is that is the most 20-something Western male top 20 films list one could ever conceive.

Yes. It'd be interesting to see a count of female protagonists in the top 100 of this list. The list very much reflects its audience (not that I'm saying this is any way a bad thing, just that it's worth acknowledging).

Well that list sure is something. I didn't vote but it's a, uh, interesting result. Wouldn't be my list, but it's definitely one of the more curious lists I've seen barring the obvious Godfather in the tops.

I mean, it's not a bad list, but are these really the films people consider their personal favourites, or the films that people recite when they're feeling intellectual and pretentious? EDIT - never mind, because it says 'best' rather than 'favourite'.

Thanks for doing this, Mr. Sam. I completely missed the voting topic, but always interested to see results like this.

EDIT again - Hot Fuzz is more than 200 places above Shaun of the Dead?

Top 50 is pretty GAF-like for sure with some exceptions. I don't care about ranks though and the full list is filled with films that are easily recommendable.

EDIT: BIG GAF OMISSION SURPRISE... No "Enter the Dragon". Hmm, that is a surprise for this kind of message board.

Pretty good list
Bit surprised by the order of tarantino movies in the list though, but it makes sense since it wasn't a "rate your fav tarantino movies"

At the risk of speaking for everyone, I feel like that film is regarded as more of an important milestone these days than a film that could easily get onto a best of list.

Really, no Lost Highway? It was the second highest on my list and it still didn't get at least 10 points? Overall, there are also only four out of my ten picks on the list.

Btw, it's Woman in the Dunes and not Women in the Dunes.

Looking over it in more detail, many of my favourite films are there, but just really far down the list - Infernal Affairs, The Goonies, Conan the Barbarian, The Rock, Sunshine. Solid list, provided you don't fixate on the placements.

Not a terrible list. But the Godfather being anything less than #1 is a disgrace.
how do opinions work??

wow, really great list. like the variety.

The Dark Knight sticks out like a sore thumb though. look at the movies before and after it. kind of a joke that's it is where it is, tbh.

Pulp Fiction is number 7 on IMDb and number 6 on here. We're so different and counterculture here at GAF.

I still have no idea what so many people see in The Shawdhank Redemption.

I personally do find it a positive and uplifting film, but probably for the same reasons other people find it manipulative and saccharine. Its got some good performances, crazy good chemistry between Freeman and Robbins, a "mini-epic" sense of time passing, a fantastic ending an absolute masterpiece of a score. i don't think its a personal top ten, but I think its a weird victim of one of those cycles where some people can absolutely hate it because others preach about it too much.

It actually bemuses me that its so high in the top 250, because its so opposite to that hoi polloi unsophisticated mindset we attribute to the average imdb user. Its a long film, about human relationships with no explosions or real scenery change and yet its well loved. I can't really hate that.

Also, this moment
