Cretinously credulous
I am only halfway through, and what the fuck is the matter with this movie?
First the scenes of a child doing Madonna and Monroe impressions (in full makeup and Lingerie too). Then calling Leon her lover, to Leon himself and to the hotel manager too? Its weird. Its really creeping me out. It has overshadowed almost everything else for me. Whenever Natalie is onscreen, I am a little weirded out.

Don't you remember being young and having a crush on someone older than you?

You might like the US cut better (just called "The Professional") which cuts most of the pervy pedo stuff out.

That angle of the movie is uncomfortable, yes. But it's a fantastic movie anyway, with memorable protagonists, and an amazing villain.

Given the situation she grew up in it's not surprising she tries to act older than her years, but Leon more or less rekindles her childhood and gives her a second chance at happiness.

Keep watching basically.

Finish the movie, how rude. Yes, that was a point of controversy and worth hearing the audio commentary over. Very cleverly handled as the romance is from the girl rather than the man so it's her sexual awakening.

Watch Diary Of A Teenage Girl and Towelhead for similar but less violent films on similar relationships.

Positively irresistible.

I never thought about it until now, but this movie is definitely Moe.

Watch half a movie, stop and post a thread. It's like people who tweet whilst watching films. I just don't get it. Is 90-120 minutes of your time too demanding a stretch?

Let's not act like the OP is the first person to raise pedophilic concerns about this movie.

It's clearly toeing boundaries. Very intentionally so.

That's insanity. It cuts out the conversation where he shuts her down and makes it clear that he's not thinking about her like that. Instead it keeps all the undertones and her obvious affection leaving it vague and open to interpretation.

Lol OP. The movie is fantastic. Watch it all then come back. There is no pedo stuff in the film. She thinks she loves him. That is not abnormal.

OP, you're describing all the reasons the movie gave me the hots for Natalie Portman when I was a young lad around her age when it released. Her puppy dog crush factor was only rivaled by a young Christina Ricci. Not coincidentally, they both went on to become complete bombshells.

It's really not, unless you misunderstand the word "pedophilic".

Yea it's not the right word as it isn't Leon pursuing her but the other way around.

Not sure what term would be appropriate, but regardless of the nomenclature it can be pretty uncomfortable for some folks to watch.

Which parts are a concern, specifically?
The whole thing. It's a pseudo-romance between a man and a girl. It's only hinting at it without outright saying it, but the subtext is certainly there.

I don't have a problem with it, but I can understand why someone would.

If I said ephebophilic, less people would understand what I wrote.
