Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

I'd love to see which version on console comes out ahead. I really want to play this on the bone but in pretty sure ill be playing it on the ps4.

So what's the verdict? Pretty safe to say this was a cross-gen title at one point?

At least there's that, they've never really been the kind of devs who release crazy bullshots.

The Boston downtown looks dense enough to me that I doubt cross gen was ever a consideration. I can't imagine that last gen iterations of this engine could have handled things like flight, settlement mechanics, or real time VATs, either.

anyone here have both consoles? I'm still torn on what version to keep and what one to cancel. I have both preordered. PS4 vs XBOX.

Even if they both run at 1080p 30fps whats the chances PS4 looks slightly better? I think I read XBOX will get mods first.

Hmmm, I keep flip-flopping on this and those screenshots have brought me around again! It's really cheap ($59AU) right now, and if my PC were well above the minimum requirements I think I'd just jump in. But it's likely that I'll get better performance out of the PS4 version, which then leads me to re-evaluate about how much I really enjoy the modern day Fallout games: Didn't care for 3, fucking adored New Vegas.

Hmmm, might just keep on watching from the sidelines, grab the GOTY edition next year instead (with the new PC!)

Anybody expecting amazing graphics from an open world Bethesda game is a sad, misguided individual.

You not around when Morrowind came out? Cause it pretty much was fantastic looking for the time and for an open world game it had great graphics.

Oblivion wasn't a bad looking game either.

The issues with the graphics (IMO) are tied to Bethseda just trying everything they can to hold on to the gamebyro engine. Their "Creation" engine as they call it is built upon the gamebyro base. They've been using this engine since freaking Morrowind, that's how old it is, and they just keep trying to update it on and one instead of starting fresh.

It's like they can't let go of that engine and move on to an entirely new/updated one.

Think of whatt hey could do if they had used the Unreal 4 or Crysis engine, or built one from the ground up (not using any old engine as the foundation).

I guess some people won't be satiated with graphics until their Titans are literally melting.

My PC is decent but no such powerhouse. I wasn't expecting this to be on the same level as Witcher 3, but this looks almost exactly like FO3 with an ENB mod. The textures and geometry are simply hideous.

Have you ever even played a Fallout game? Probably not, because then visuals definately wouldn't be your sole metric for whether the game is worth a purchase.

The shit I'm hearing in this thread has me straight up chuckling. Maybe one day people will get over this arbitrary checklist that pops up in their heads when they hear the phrase 'AAA game', and learn to judge games on their individual merits.

They don't really look 'straight up awful in every way'. Ambient occlusion's about the only thing missing from those pics far as I can tell and that will likely be force-able on PC.

I get that my comment didn't give you a lot to work with, but that's a whole lot of incorrect projections. I have played every Fallout game, and while the graphics are pretty damn disappointing, it is the gameplay and mood changes that are the bigger metrics failing with me. I give Bethesda credit for taking a risk with the formula, but the voiced character is appalling and the rote house-play mechanics are worthless to me. I'm already well-aware I can't rely on Bethesda for a compelling world or story. FO3 is my least favorite entry in the mainline series thanks to that. I'll let your grossly erroneous assumption that I don't enjoy a damn huge variety of games slide for now.

Nah, you're right, you got me and I'll take the L. Sometimes I'll take a comment I don't like or that I've misunderstood and respond in a generalized tone addressing half the thread. But I really disagree with the idea that this looks like Fallout 3 with an ENB, and I've played a shitload of ENB'd Fallout. This looks way better than that, and for what it's worth I've just modded my Witcher 3 with a camera mod, so that I can show you guys that Fallout 4's textures, at least on PC, aren't really all that far off - they're just more noticeable, partly because of the strange and cartoony PBR implementation, partly because of a perspective that's generally much closer to the assets than in Witcher 3, and partly because they're a bit simple all around, but I'd say that lush, green settings are a little more conducive to hiding flaws through the use of foliage and great skyboxes, than wastelands are at any rate.

Overall it doesn't look as bad as many people seem to think it does. I think they shifted their art to a more stylized look, leaning more towards bioshock and less towards towards the realistic visuals like say Skyrim, which has a lot of upset.

Am I alone in thinking this looks quite good, even on PS4?

Tuesday can't get here soon enough...

goodnight sweet prince

Shit like this is part of the fun of these games, IMO :)

The game with creme filled condoms standing in for human beings that put cities behind loading screens and removed travel powers due to technical limitations?

What?

I think when they were making oblivion they actually designed it around consoles/specs that didn't exist yet and swung for the fences and had to dial it back to make it run on 360 (like losing the lighting from the demo etc).

It paid off though because when Oblivion was unveiled it looks awesome. Especially jumping from Morrowind.

Hey I didn't say they looked good. But they were a lot more technically accomplished than those preceding them.

That sounds interesting. I hope you do post it. I admit that my choice of description was exaggerated. I think a lot of it has to do with the poor implementation of PBR, as you indicated. At that point, it comes down to art direction for me. If Witcher 3's vegetation and landscapes do more to mask the techniques used to create it, then that is aesthetic design executed well. So far, what I've seen from FO4 does not inspire much confidence in it's art direction. The animations are beyond hilarious, which might be forgivable if the rest of the world didn't look like a dollhouse for these action-figures to play in. Add in Bethesda's melodramatic voice direction and I just feel totally pushed away by this product .

I love the way the power armor looks here. :O matches up really well with how I imagined it when reading about how it operares back in the day.

It's a man sized tank. Being hulking and slow and loud, ah, it's how it always should have been.

I'm diggin' the UI change in the power armor as well.

It feels like the map is filled mostly with water. Maybe I am just bad at gauging the size of the map but it seems small because half of it is water.

This series has never looked interesting to me and I think I have just figured out why. The intense neon green HUD is really jarring and unattractive. I think I can't get past that. Plus that thing where they pause the game and you pick a spot on the enemy to shoot has always struck me as odd. I guess it is just not for me.

Preliminary leaks indicate they used the Dragon Age/Mass Effect model of speech in which you get a select few options that have little common with what the avatar actually says. From what I've read it makes your avatar seem like a crazy person.

What a weird change to make, it was fine before.

You can change the HUD color and VATS isn't as important anymore, the shooting has also improved quite a bit if the videos are accurate.

The HUD color can be changed to what you like.

The pause the game stuff is based on the RPG roots of the game and you don't actually have to do it, ever, if you don't want to.

So what difficulty is everyone planning to play on?

I want to do survival, but I assume the difficulty is just very artificial in that they just make enemies tougher. Hopefully it's not insanely catered to doing just that.

Any chance ammo becomes rarer, and they have other neat changes?

I know legendary enemies and weapons spawn, but any news on any other changes?

Same here, I want it for streaming to my media PC in my office from the Xbox, but would be annoyed should there be issues with that version versus ps4. Looking at the PC shots, I may be tempted to go that route though.

If anyone here is actually playing it, may I ask just to put it to rest finally for me, When you first put a point into Lady Killer/ Man hunter does it allow you to choose one? or is it locked to gender as it would appear?

With the change from Black Widow to the more gender neutral Man Hunter, I was hoping..
