Star Wars Battlefront: PS4 is outdoing Xbox and PC combined [in concurrency numbers]

Sunday i will post here and believe me the numbers on Ps4 will be bigger, not sure if MUCH bigger but bigger.
Based on BF4 and BFH numbers I have on record (which track similarly over the day) I'm expecting a 50% increase from now to its peak player count this weekend.

i bet that EA's avoidance of Steam doesn't help their numbers.

if Battlefront was on Steam with SteamWorkshop support, the numbers would likely be awesome.

The title of the thread sounds nice enough for Sony until you look at the actual stats, worrying PC numbers and not exactly impressive PS4/XBO numbers either. We'll get a better idea over the next few weeks though.

I'm primarily interested in this game's longevity. It is thin on content as is currently, and there are a lot of games vying for attention this holiday.

The concurrent peak for Fallout 4 on PC being a fair bit higher than all 3 platforms combined for this game really puts things in perspective.

If it had been $30 however...

"PC gamers are picker" goes out the window when you consider hundreds of thousands play the middling quality 3rd remake of a game with decades old gameplay.

I'm pretty sure you could word this argument better without making people irrationally butthurt, but there's some truth to your statement. I think it's just that most PC gamers tend to stick to a few games and stick to them for a long ass time. You're more likely to find people who play ONLY Dota 2, CS:GO, or League of Legends than you are to find people that buy every new triple A release every week on PC. It's just financially safer to stick with one or two games you really enjoy and that have good longetivity. Not everyone is crazy with expendable income and buys a new triple A release every week of October to November (why the fuck did I do this?).

The issue is that it's tougher for new games to enter the market. Like, you see some indie games making it purely by Youtuber word-of-mouth, but the rest kinda just get tossed out to pasture. The hope is that the games that do come out find their own audience that enjoys it enough to stick around, like Red Orchestra 2 for example (love this game). An example of that going wrong is Natural Selection 2.

Shitty PC version and origin only. Not that it would have been above the consoles even in perfect circumstance, but these publishers/devs don't help themselves.

Are those X1 numbers counting the EA Access players? I don't really know how it works, but aren't they able to basically play the game for "free" at first?

How much will that give?
If the stats I have are true for launch weekend as well (they are not launch aligned; I grabbed them for a different purpose) then another ~140k concurrent on top of what it is right now.

Everyone connected to EA servers is counted, that includes EA Access players.

The PC version has one of the best GAF feedback from our local Performance topics. Smooth, relatively trouble-free, beautiful and scales well.

What's shitty about the PC version? I haven't had any issues since Tuesday...are people having problems?

It's the most optimized game I've purchased on PC this year FWIW.

Weird. Our performance thread has only pointed out the positives of the port, beyond its barebone feature set and decidedly simple gameplay.

Keep in mind MS just released two HUGE exclusives this month, whereas Sony is relying solely on third party's this fall. I don't own an XBOX btw, but if I did, and I was looking for a multiplayer shooter to play, I would 100% buy Halo 5 before Battlefront.

I'm sure Cod is beating BF and Halo online numbers on X1 combined.

When it comes to online shooters on the PC, there's Valve's stuff then everything else. Modern Call of Duty shares much the same fate: the numbers start off relatively respectable, but they're well shy of the numbers on consoles and after a month or two have dropped sharply as people went back to playing whatever was occupying their time before release.
yep, the non valve shooter community migrated to consoles

I'm honestly kinda surprised BF4 is still hovering at around 30k peak like it did for the last few months after both cod and battlefront released edit: on pc I mean

Thank god Sony is spreading their lineups whole year otherwise they would go unnoticed like RoTR and Halo.

Not like they have a choice.....

But not going down that road. The real test will be if the numbers are still there in the next few months after the new game smell wears off.

I expected the PC number to be much higher than that...

I didn't. No custom servers. Origin exclusive. DICE seemingly burned through their good will with PC players.

Also there's the way CSGO absolutely dominates PC and peaked today with more than twice the players of every version of battlefront combined.

Not shocked. Marketing deals are important, my casual gamer friend was upset because he throught Fallout 4 was Xbone exclusive based on all the TV spots.
If you have a big game and your console at the end, you're in the head of people. But it really depends on the game. Battlefront and Fallout are lightning in a bottle phenomenons, the COD deal is less worthy as everyonek knows by now that game releases on everything. CODs importance is compromised and that's why the 1 month exclusive map packs are the main feature in their TV spots.

That's because there really isn't another game that does what battlefield does well.

You mean MS or Sony? well yeah they both had a choice when to release their first party IP or games they publish, except Sony is not dividing the year into seasons of which one only matters.

Numbers make sense.

PC players know this is not a hardcore shooter. Not worth their time. Its beautiful for sure but just not worth paying all that money for a game that NEEDS people, which as the numbers show its better to be on a console.

Xbox1 has the EA access. After 10 hours most people know its not worth the money. Also there are much fewer xbone1s vs ps4 so I would expect there to be fewer players on xbox. Considering how many more PS4s there are out there...that difference is much smaller than I would have thought.

Numbers are good. Here's hoping DICE does good on all of the communities with future content.

What I would like to see is the numbers after Episode 7 releases

let's see

ps4 is the most popular current gen platform, and all the advertising was done for ps4

the pc version is missing things like mod support, a server browser, etc

makes a lot of sense as to why the ps4 version is dominating
Sounds like your reaching a bit bro I'm sure pc players didn't look at a great game like this and say "welp no mods no buy" the excuses you gave are irrelevant in the face of how good the game is.

Been playing it on my Xbox One and loving it. No problems finding a MP game to play. The game is everything I hoped it would be and I'm a big fan of the Battlefield games as well.

Although I might be a bit bias and I'm sure you know why.

I expect the gap will close over time. I think the xbox one version is superior. Not because of graphics but network stability with xbox live and the one has the far better controller.

Only thing I really get from it is that the console numbers are going to be gangbusters against PC. We keep hearing about the death of consoles, the return of the PC with e a vengeance and yet, even formerly PC centric games are just dominating on consoles. Even a poorly received console like Xbox One is doing double according to this. I mean Xbox One is pretty much dead in the water outside Canada, US, Mexico, Australia, UK no?

Yes instead they said 50 dollar dlc and lack of content no buy.

Battlefront is overshadowing not only Halo 5 but also Tomb Raider. Everyone forgot TR came out. You forget the SW hype is real.

Arma 3 had the same numbers at its peak. It's hardcore-ness is irrelevant.

Yep. There's going to be a lot of talk of disappointment in November's NPD thread. Before that, there'll be PAL numbers, and people will insist that maybe Star Wars just isn't as big in the UK, "just wait."

The biggest surprise to me continues to be that EA adjusted up to 13 million. Either they know something I don't (quite possible obviously) or they're crazy.

Maybe its something you know that they don't"?lol
Perhaps you should get in contact with them and explain so they can bring down there numbers.
