Just Cause 3 PC performance thread

Everything set to highest expect LOD which I left on High(what it defaulted to) and AA, which is just SMAA.

Getting an average of about 50-80. Seen it dip into the 40s during explosions/the intro on top of the plane.

Hopefully the Nvidia drivers tomorrow smooth out performance, otherwise I'll probably see if cranking anything down keeps me consistently above 60.

Everything on max but shadows on high. Runs pretty much at 60 FPS @1080p even when there's explosions around.

Loading are fine too.

This is a good version of the game.

3440X1440 With most on high to full on a 970 with a i5 3350. Well over 30fps at all times. Looks very nice and is bonkers.

Game is a complete slideshow at 1080p. Bumpin all details down to medium and running at 720p or 900p gives me performances at 40-60fps whenever there's no action going on and 25-40ish when a lot of things are going down.

I'm having fun with it but this feels like playing a 360/PS3 game.

Ok...sooo maybe it's not crossfire doing this.

What's going on!??!

Edit: Just realized that AMD had released drivers to fix this yesterday, nm!

If you are getting crashes on changing resolution like I was:

Think I solved it. Go into My Documents, Square Enix, Just Cause 3, Saves, 0 (this seems to be a global profile). There's a settings.json file. Manually editing the Resolution there works for me. However the game does not like to be alt tabbed and crashed while I was writing this.

and the game runs like completeeee ass

I know my rig is getting a bit old. But holy crap. the frame rate is all over the place

Also, i had all the water in the game disappear. Saw through all of it

No crashes so far. Running 720p now with everything on low. It's 60 FPS a bit more frequently now but I still get some drops.

I'm hoping we get some more optimization patches cause the game is incredibly stunning and picturesque, and I hate having to lose some of that quality for the sake of performance. The explosions still look marvelous though.

Maybe it's about time I upgrade my GPU after all... though JC3 seems to be a bit of an exception since it's running a bit poorly on even more modern end cards.

Performance seems fine, but what is most striking initially is that there is no vibration on my Xbox One controller unless I disconnect and reconnect the micro cable. The vibration seems to last until a mission cutscene, then you have to repeat the process. Fairly annoying.

Adding to this - can anyone else check if the game is downclocking their memory while playing? I have a MSI 970, and it drops me to 3005 Mhz.

Secondly, AF doesn't seem to be working particularly well - 16x through the ingame options looks like about 2x ingame, perhaps even none at all. Forcing through the NV control panel sorted it out though.

The game doesn't seem to drop below 30 for me on maxed settings, except for a couple of spots here and there. I am pretty tempted to overclock my CPU a bit though.

Should I add another 8gb of RAM just to be safe? Games just JC3 seem to creeping up in the requirements. Would 16gb give me any noticeable gains?

Game seems to hover around 75 fps more or less. I had a few drops down to the high 50's during high explosive times, and the m/kb controls are pretty good. Still trying to get the wingsuit down, it's strange the way it works, but I'm digging in. The game is awesome. Holy hell is the destruction awesome.

I need this game! My PC is ready (i5 3570k/GTX980)! Whats the best place to get a digital PC copy?

I picked up a copy from GMG for $41.00

Apparently cdkeys has a cheaper copy, but I'm always wary of them.

Running on a 2600k and an 980ti at 1440p with most setting at max. Getting some weird micro stuttering and it is killing my enjoyment of the game for now. I really hope it gets patched tomorrow with the new drivers or the game patch.

Well, I've got the same specs as you(my cpu is overclocked tho) and it was running fine at 1440p.

Unless you're wanting to multi task quite a bit, I still think 8gb is fine for the moment.

I just bought it from GMG but I haven't received my code.

When I look up my account game list on their website, it says "no keys available for this game." Did they run out?

My bank account has been charged.

Sounds like we're on the same setup. I have my CPU at 4.2 (I think) currently.

Thanks for the info!

I have everything turned all the way up except for AA which I have left at SMAA. 1440p and it is running at a very solid 60fps with one or two dips into the 50's when it gets chaotic, but I need to test more chaos to see just how much that hurts performance.

Only complaint is that there is some really weird light flickering that happens on some parts of the geometry when I have Global Illumination turned on.

Anyone with a 780/780ti able to report on their performance? A bit worried about these reports from 700 users.

I bought from them about 11pm, still no key. There's a thread on their forum, a bunch of people are waiting. Don't hold your breath, I'm guessing they oversold and are waiting on new stock.

Yikes, performance issues with a 770? My 770 2GB was working great with Fallout 4, so this might be my first ever Steam refund if it seems too awful. Just Cause 2 was such a great PC port and ran really smoothly while looking pretty nice, so I had high hopes this would be similar.

Early report.

Nearly everything maxed out, LOD on high, shadows on medium, no AA, 1080p.
970; i5 2500k stock; 8GB ram; installed on an HDD; w7.

Games runs pretty alright, clear frame drops, especially in heated moments, but it's playable.
If i were to lock it at 30 i'd probably notice none of them yet (i'm sure things will get worse later on).
Load times are also perfectly normal, for an open world.

Hope everything holds up like this.

Also, the game doesn't have a 30fps cap option, so i guess if i want to, i'll have to do it from the nvidia control panel.
I'll keep it unlocked for now, since the drops aren't super bad yet.

I should say, this is a generation apart from JC2, looks significantly better (Global illumination is so good looking).

Going by the nvidia configuration guide, it seems like many effects like that may kill performance.

Lets get some framerate reports pls. We need numbers.

"Snooth" doesnt mean anything. "Maxed out" also means nothing when you are running sub 30 at times.

Thanks guys.

I've just run the intro at 1080p + max settings, and I'm sad to say my system chocked and stuttered pretty badly throughout. Steam's own FPS counter reported dips down to the high 20's during some of the explosions. I'm thinking I'm going to wait to play tomorrow with the official drivers.

5820K @ 4.5Ghz
Titan X @ 1356Mhz

Win 10 64-bit

By the way, I can't really monitor performance in real-time because Afterburner's overlay doesn't seem to work with JC3.

EDIT: Ran it again with shadows set to high instead of very high, and never saw the frame rate drop below 60fps. Massive difference.

Hmmm, some interesting reports here. I just got my paycheck and am tempted to jump in, but it's finals week, so I'll let ya'll do the science and watch carefully ...

didn't drop a single frame as far as i could tell with the steam overlay fps counter until I got to the power plant and started setting off huge explosions. couple dips into the low 50s there but I'm satisfied with the port.

Seems like it. I've been running everything with little to no problems with the 770 (some tweaking here and there) but this one is unplayable at times.

It seems that the game is protected by Denuvo.
So I heard, though I at least read that it doesn't do hard disk reads/writes as some people claim so it shouldn't kill SSDs.

It's a double disappointment since I thought Just Cause 2 was a good port that ran well AND didn't use Denuvo as far as I know. I also thought Just Cause 3 was a singleplayer game without the social integration focus...but I've since learned it has 3rd-party DRM on top of Steam, has social integration with a server connection, and has performance issues.

This is like a tiny version of how I'll feel if Mirror's Edge Catalyst turns out awful. ;_;
