Star Wars Battlefront: PS4 is outdoing Xbox and PC combined [in concurrency numbers]

Clearly it's a casual shooter, so comparing it to CS is not useful. Seemingly no one has played the original games, so they default to unrealistic expectations and make ridiculous comparisons. Battlefront was never intended to be anything more than a fun, accessible shooter for Star Wars fans to enjoy.

A lot of revisionist history with that game. I played that game to death, and seeing some people's post about it, has me a, "Da fuq? You even play it, or are you just reading off bullet points from an online meme?"

You and me both. A lot of the sentiment around this game is pretty dumbfounding. Regardless, I will continue playing endless matches of fighter squadron.

I am worried that the Star Wars film might fall short on expectations. The world felt like it imploded when Episode 1 came out. It broke records, but fuck..

15 more years of how a new starwars trilogy is just no good? gahhh.

If Force Awakens really turns out good, could the sales of Battlefront receive a second wind?

I doubt concurrency numbers tell the real story when it comes to casual shooters like Battlefront. Regardless of how much I like it I typically don't play it for more than an hour before getting my fill of grenade spam for the day and moving on to something more satisfying like Fallout, DOTA2, or modded minecraft.

It is basically a nice snack.

JJ Abrams, Disney, what they did with the Marvel license, what he did with Star Trek and other projects, fan service new and old, more darker dramatic tone (Empire feel), kind of a rebootish feeling with a new legacy of characters, but at the same time advancing the timeline, already smashed presale records, practical and great muted tone special effects... trust me, do not compare this to Episode 1.

The movie will have a whole new slew of fans young and old, Disney is marketing the shit out of this, in all facets. Every store I walk even, EVEN DOLLAR STORES, has Star Wars anything and everything, Petco, Petsmart, grocery stores, gas stations, I never seen anything like it since I was a kid with the originals. It is going to be much larger than it has ever been. Plus an entire theme park dedicated to Star War planned in Disney, not just the Star Tours ride (probably like Harry Potter in Universal and the soon to come Avatar in Animal Kingdom).

I almost felt what you did at first, because the acting and camera work felt very dramatic/serious, and less campy, but I am growing more and more used to it since rewatching the trailers. I am now re-pumped.

This will definitely boost the game sales, especially if they are smart and have a small advert for it in the trailers before the movie. Plus the adverts on TV will be flooded around the time the movie is ready to hit as well.

Yeah- And I'll say one thing. Star Wars has maintained this almost *Irrational* obsession in mainstream culture despite everything.

I don't think we can say the same for The Matrix and Lord of the Rings- Arguable the two counter franchises that had sequels/trilogy prequels, even though thematically- The Matrix and at least Fellowship of the ring are "better" films than the original Star Wars films.

Star Wars just preserveres. If you play SWTOR you just see a massive slew of fans who cannot give up. It was the same in SWG. Community lingered on even as the developers went kamikaze on their own game! RIP!

I wonder which version will have better legs.
PS4. The PC version will dwindle down to roughly 10k in a month and struggle to keep its user base. PS4 literally has no competition in this regard. This is what happens when you cater to one of your user bases and not all.

The best part is when they call it a casual shooter, yet it was a lot more hardcore than the "hardcore" shooters we get these days.

Both consoles will likely do well with PS4 at the obvious lead due to the larger pool. PC...that will depend on what DICE does with patch work and content release. You already have the irrational (imo) pushback against Origin still lingering, no server browsers, and the inherent issues of the game on all platforms (content, hit box issues, balance issues). While I don't have a ton of experience with online titles on PC, the respective communities seem to be more fickle due to games like CS setting the bar.

I hope it stands well enough though. I really don't want to have to pay again for the PS4 version and go through the grind again to keep up with all these late level/deluxe edition weapons and cards I encounter from other players.

In less than a month TFA will be released, though. I assume that will have a fairly big impact.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Today, as of 14:04 GMT (slightly less than 24 hours after the numbers I posted)

PC: 16,069 (24h peak: 34,174)

XBOXONE: 25,423 (24h peak: 80,174)

PS4: 75,629 (24h peak: 129,851)

Total: 117,121

Less than 10,000 lower than yesterday. So, still around that level, more or less.

I tried to go buy the DLC for Blood borne on the PSN Store the other day. The store had one full page of SW Battlefront. The rest of the pages were filled as well. Sony is forcing the Force on consumers. And that's fine, but let's not beat around the Bush and say EA put down some cash and Sony is banking on this game to sell Systems. Sucks for other games because sony's store is a mess and now even harder to find things.

EA was passive, see.

They should have bundled it with PC2™®©. Then, and only then, would it insure success.

Are we talking about battlefront here?

Because I think the larger game modes are pretty casual. They offer next to no tactical planning or team work to be honest. Sure it has no iron sights, but... that is not exactly what makes a game "hardcore".

Playerbase is ultimately what's kept me from buying on PC. I don't need another Titanfall experience.

Holy shit at those PC numbers. PC players just don't give a fuck. Not surprising. The shooter niche is extremely well filled with some of the best ever made so it's tough to drag people away from those. Still crazy low though, I bought it on PC and the popular modes are still easy enough to get into games but some modes are DoA.

The OG Battlefront series not this one.

A lot of people dropped it as soon as it was announced as MM only and no private matches.

I just find the game really shallow. I dont see the point in playing it for more than 30 mins. I still have 8 hours on my ea access version. I dunno. Was really looking forward too it before the beta and access. I can see the player Base dwindling fast but should stay steady on ps4 due to its higher sakes, install Base

It's like Titanfall. An overpriced multiplayer only shooter designed for consoles that doesn't work on PC. Gee, who would've thought?

oh! That explains quite a bit then.

Yeah, beyond the graphics... I see no reason for someone with tastes similar to mine (and apparently yours) to stay and play the game at length.

The engine and art should be locked into a single payer campaign...

30 hours since launch is that all you could do? That doesn't seem good at all. The game is dead if you arent in certain regions can't find a game in Australia.

I'm really worried about PC Player base :(

It's Star Wars. The brand is stronger than ever and there's still more movies and media to come in the next few years. I think it will be fine. Not nearly as strong as Counter Strike, but no Titanfall either.

? Game came out last week. People have stuff to do, like study, work, you know, that kind of stuff. 30 hours is plenty.

It's sill very quick to find a game here (Europe), game has been delivering on the fun I expected and 30k peak is more than enough, I've played games for years with 2k, 4k player base without any problem.

That's not really a great explanation when BOPS3 is doing similar numbers.

It really is due to the fact that the competition in this genre is fierce on PC. Origin only is also a problem they should consider.

That said, brand alone will give this more legs than Titanfall.

I really hope so, because me and my friends are loving this game. And I have the PS4 version too but I don't really want to play that since I'm playing on an Ultrawide Monitor with everything maxed out on a pretty awesome resolution. Night and day vs PS4.

I thought he was talking about Titanfall. nvm

The playerbases is down almost 30% in 5 days...

is that normal?

It'll be interesting to see if the DLC screws the playerbases over like it did titanfall.

Work and shit probably makes the numbers go down in the middle of the week like this. People got their first fill of the game when it launched and will come back again on Friday probably.

Way too many multiplayer options on PC. Even decades old games still have fairly large player bases. Your game better be damn special at $60 to attract a half decent audience. Don't see the point in including PC in these threads.

This. Current gen console gamers have very limited online FPS games to choose from, they'll take what they can get.

Meanwhile, the game launched on the same day Blizzard announced stress test beta weekend for Overwatch. They hit EA with the 1 2.

Most PC gamers don't buy PC games for 60$, we usually get them for half of that ;)

It's been almost one week since the last time I posted the concurrent players numbers

PC: 11,694 (24h peak: 25,014)

XBOXONE: 13,393 (24h peak: 60,867)

PS4: 54,598 (24h peak: 104,696)

So, it's slightly more than 30,000 less players than 6 days ago, at around the same time, after both Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Aren't these terrible numbers for such a big release? Both in terms of retention rate and overall raw?

Are we going to see BF4 stats for BF after a while though?

PC
19,226 (Peak 24h 31,242)

XBOXONE
5,898 (Peak 24h 16,051)

PS4
19,512 (Peak 24h 27,545)

PC is supposed to have short leg, right?
