Paragon, MOBA from Epic Games (PC/PS4, 2016) [Up: First Gameplay, Crossplatform, F2P]

Where can you sign up for the beta exactly?

I found the tab on the right, logged my epic account, and then? I am just auto entered or something?

I think so, yes. Make sure to choosing something for the 5 heroes.

sci-fi, 3rd person, MOBA - I'll bite for sure

also - visuals are stunning

EDIT:

I'm just wondering about numbers of heroes, will it be constant or will they go for "new-release-every-signle-X-amount-of time"

You can really tell that Epic have their own artstyle here that's shared among most of their titles (from UT'04 upwards). All that Hard surface modelling and beefy armored dudes and slender powerful women.

Where's my playable Skaarj, already?

We talking source filmmaker here or something else?

They have not yet clarified, but basically I think it's replacing Matinee as the cinematic creation tool for developers.

Matinee was pretty well received though overall, so presumably this is quite good if they're dumping that.

Ah, I figured. Thanks.

Didn't realize it was going to be a MOBA, thought it was going to be a 3rd person arena shooter. Probably still try it, but MOBAs aren't my cup of tea.

Seeing how great UT runs, I look forward to giving this a go as well.

Compared to their output of UE3 games, I like the way their games look now on UE4.

Arena shooters aren't all that popular. They're currently trying to help bring them back with Unreal Tournament 4.

wouldn't really make sense to have to games of the same genre with just a different perspective

Rule number one of MOBAs - easy to read silhouettes.

Game looks fun, art-style is horrendous. Battleborn and Overwatch do it better (even if the latter may not technically be a MOBA).

What? The art style is fantastic, and the silhouettes of all the characters revealed so far are in fact easy to distinguish.

I love gears. I love leagues. I think I will love the combination. There's minions and lanes, please let there be a base and buying 8tems.

I think you can sign up to get in to an earlier PC beta preceding that, but I'm not clear.
This was in the Email I got confirming I was signed up for the beta.

Thanks for registering for Paragon.

We’re excited to invite people to start playing the game over the next few months. Online testing will begin in January, followed by paid Early Access in Spring, and Open Beta in Summer 2016.

I feel the opposite. All the characters announced so far look pretty different.

-avg build guy with two guns
-XXL Beefcake guy with shield
-avg build woman with bow and arrow
-skinny hunched lady with two swords
-big guy with one big gun
-short rhino humanoid with club
-avg build woman with wings and staff(wonder if she is healer)
-floating guy with robes
-mech with wierd bulky limbs (looks like Edge of tomorrow mech)

colors are very muted however which might cause problems

here is 5 standing next to each other. very easy to tell them apart

Shoudla just used this at PSX. UE4 looks so damn good.

Not every MOBA is trying to be like LoL or Dota. Problem is using that term automatically puts you in that bracket sadly.

what's worse is having hero powers somehow makes you a moba.

This game shares almost nothing in common with Overwatch outside of that and yet people are already complaining that it's like Overwatch

Silhouettes are important also you can see that in dota 2 between each hero you can see the difference and the gameplay reveal really didn't show it in paragon tons of details but silhouettes make the hero's pop out.

I actually really liked how honest and upfront they were with being a MOBA unlike some other games that are MOBAs but pretend otherwise. They are not trying to hoodwink anyone. It has lanes, minions, towers and base destruction. If anything people need to get over MOBAs being some leprous genre to avoid.

Honestly to the untrained eye Dota 2 heroes are very difficult to distinguish especially in a hectic team fight. With a third person view characters are bigger on screen and after some amount of playtime it should be easy to distinguish them.

Everyone saying this looks amazing/different...

Maybe I need new glasses. To me it looks like they took the very cliche "Gears of War" style of characters (completely with huge oversized bodies) and the very drab and "gritty gray and browns" color scheme.

I'd love to have seen something a bit more different, you can use colors without making it "cartoony" and to me having huge over-sized characters IS cartoony.
