No one complained in the chat so i don't know if i can do anything about it. Maybe lower the bitrate a bit(rate).

I had to end the stream early when my Forge build crashed. It's still sitting at "Retrieving Data".

yeah it was just me, twitch was acting up on me for everyone

@ part 2; oh dear, hope everything is okay!

Just had the same recovering data thing. Damn.

I think I have got the controls mostly down now. Trying to remember where bits are will take some getting use to.

Made some little caved off area that I have no idea what to do. I can never figure what to do with be natural spaces.

They need more map lighting options. The only map I have managed to get really dark on is the space map. Longest Yard is looking really Quake-ish. I hope they also add more texturing options down the line.

Nope. The map appears to be toast. So the old "Save Often" advise is no longer valid since i can't even open the previous saved version.

^^^ ......WTF

Do they not realize the potential of what could be done with putting AI enemies in forge?

However, the potential here is amazing for some the craziest maps we have ever seen. With a proper file share and a good way to get people playing your creations, this has massive potential.

So I've built the basic geometry..

What is the benefit of Welding items? Do they become a whole object made of multiple items or is it just like Grouping?

Anyone else find themselves grouping sections of a map together so you can group change things? I have all my lights grouped so I can tweak settings and see how things change. What's with the grouping cap too?

Welding allows you to apply normal physics to a group without them flying apart.

  • Halo 5's multiplayer becomes a platform where they just build on top of, releasing new content over time.
  • Halo 6 releases with a fully fleshed out Firefight and AI scripting.
Could be interesting.
Read this as: "Log out of my head." Was sufficiently confused as to how he initially logged in.

As someone who never got into forge, mainly due to the controls... I have to say that this controls REALLY WELL.

I think since I don't have to contend with muscle memory from the controls of previous iterations, I have a bit of an advantage. But this thing feels like I'm using any MS product. Right bumper is my left click.

Rigging maps for AI would seriously require a PC editor and many, many, many hours of work to do right, the way Halo does it.

Uh, are particle effects on delayed spawn not saving for anyone else?

EDIT: they're "saved" in forge, but aren't showing up in customs. weird.

So I've found an extremely weird bug. The weirdest yet actually.

If you make a column like this:
CUbZZah.jpg

And try to fly up and down whilst looking downwards or upwards the controls break. You're strafe will start going in the wrong direction, when trying to fly backwards you'll move sideways, same with upwards. It's really, really weird...

Alright, Chiron door successor is complete: http://1drv.ms/1mdBUB4

The first portal hall I set up in front of is actually the prototype, while the second one is the full thing; note the changes upon activation like "ACCESS" to "DANGER," etc. The fusion coil popped my shields when I groundpounded at first, and linked portals are set up so that if one goes off, the other despawns and both ends of the two-way channel enter lockdown (albeit the prototype wasn't set up for it). It's mainly for feedback's sake, primarily so that players on the unaltered end of a locked down teleporter don't enter the hall only to have no indication of as to why the teleporter stopped working (which you can kind of see in the protoype hall). The respawn times are also shortened for illustration's sake, whereas in the final map the teleporter will respawn in ~12 seconds, while the fusion coil won't return to do the whole thing over again for about a minute or two.

My god.... why do the textures of forge objects look THAT BAD? It looks like Kerbal Space Program type of quality. I wonder what happened here since I'm sure the tech can do better.

Man this post on reddit is really great demonstration of how the new forge features can make effects and atmosphere so much better. He demonstrates a thunderstorm and lava:

and just like that, Halo 5's longevity skyrockted through the roof.

On the first draft of my map right now and i keep blowing my mind with every piece i put down. looks like a dev map.

for another pro tip, i've gotten in the habit of creating "assets". build a door, tower, plant, or other object you'll be using frequently and then group it. adjust its parent so you can snap it onto anything easily and now you've got custom prefab pieces you can use anywhere. it makes the map feel more complete.

creating them on the "world rotation axis" and then switching to "object axis" to place them makes everything 10x easier.

awesome! mind if i use this?

Go for it, no doubt loads more that could be done with it.

Edit:

My mornings effort

The rock tower bases are place holder but I do really like them, such a great piece. This is my first time having a go with forge in a Halo so I'm not struggling against any muscle memory to do with the old system, everything seems to make sense so far.

yea i was getting anxious worrying about how i would popular my map with plant life since we don't have any bushes or anything, but that alone could really spruce up the environment (no pun intended)

the crevices you got going on there look neat. what kind of map is it going to be?

It's a remake of UT's Facing Worlds, which was a classic CTF map. I think slayer would be fun too, maybe even Strongholds.
