[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

Alright something doesn't compute here.

Rogue One a year from now. Then episode 8 at like the end of May?

I really don't see that happening. Rogue One will only be a couple months out of theaters. What about trailers? They showed TFA trailer over a year before it came out. While it doesn't have to be that long this time, I don't see any way that we wouldn't have Rogue One and episode VIII trailers playing at the same time. Which will confuse the hell out of casuals.

Do we expect that release date to be pushed back? That would suck.

Lucasfilm REALLY likes May (JJ had to fight to get VII pushed back to December) and especially that May as it ties into the 40 year anniversary of Star Wars.

I don't think they'll push it back.

That's what I've been saying. People are just seeing what they want to see.
That's a pretty huge coincidence and connection though. William's specifically scored both pieces the way he did, and knowing full well what was happening on screen. You make note of this---Snoke is Plageuis. I will send you my shoes in the mail if I'm wrong.

I don't think anyone expects the spinoffs to be as high performing as the Episodes. They are focusing on the spinoff name over the Star Wars name. If anyone is confused it would be their fault.

Wait what?! They expect episode VIII to be done in a year and a half. I thought this would be every December, that may thing makes no sense

Was getting caught part of your plan?
I doubt the knights of Ren are former jedis trainees. Probably First Order folks that were made to hunt down the jedis Luke trained, either before Kylo joined them or soon after he joined the order.

Given that they seem to all specialize in different weaponry, I'm expecting some Matrix Chateau Fight Scene shenanigans in either 8 or 9 (with a lot less exaggerated choreography of course)

In that case it would make way more sense to release Rogue One this summer. Which I know is probably impossible due to time constraints. But that just seems like way to close together to release two Star Wars movies.

He didn't do it alone, but what's weird is it looks like someone tries to kill Rey with a stick but that person gets killed by Kylo. Unless like some others said the person was trying to tell her to run, but it really didn't look like it.

Those parts of the vision are in different places I believe. They're just meshed together.

well if it is a one time thing and they do it so they can switch to a steady may release thing, it could work.

Disney doesn't get that Star Wars isn't the same as marvel. Guardians and captain America are pretty different. Star Wars is Star Wars, too many movies will dilute the name.

I thought Rogue One was for TV, ugh.

Yeah, I will 100% not bother to see the spin offs in theaters. It's too much.

Pretty clearly at the same place, someone tries to presumably kill Rey while it rains, Kylo stabs that guy through the chest, then Rey backs away and Kylo stands in front of her with the knights behind him and everyone around them dead including that guy he just killed.

I have a question I saw it with my son and he hasn't seen any prior my own mistake . Well he asked about previous movies and he asked how padme died I told him and he didn't understand lol. So how do I explain it better ?

When I re-watched this last time, I couldn't help but focus on the massive scar on Snoke's head. I assume that is leftover from however Palpatine tried to kill him.

In the art book they say that when they designed Snoke they deliberately made it look like he was a good looking guy in his youth, but as he became seduced by the Dark Side it phyiscally took its toll on him.

They don't say anything outright about specific scars, but I get the feeling that most of his disfigurments is due to his dark side use rather than battle.

Either that or he's a new form of Sheev since apparently his design is based on old concept art for Sheev.

Where did you find this information?

In the art book they said they wanted to make Snoke look old and weathered and disfigured, but they specifically tried to avoid anything similar to Palpatine in order to make the design their own and new.

So am I wrong or in spite of what the Jedi preach, Maul, Dooku, Vader, and Kylo... Each lost when the hero began to give into hate and emotion.
Obi-Wan seeing Qui-Gon die.
Anakin just giving in.
Luke going HAM when Vader threatened to go after Leia.
Rey after Han died and Finn was critically wounded.

So how will the next movie start, this is the first time we are left with a movie ending in the middle of a scene. Don’t you want to see what Luke says at that moment. If so then how the hell will an opening crawl work? Every Star Wars movie is years apart, so will they just skip a year later with Luke and Rey master and apprentice?

Quite a mess they have there.

It'll be fine. Plenty of movies/stories do this. We probably wont see how their conversation goes and we wont need to - or if we do it'll be flashback.

Chances are it'll skip to near the end of Rey's training once there's rapport between her and Luke.

Really looking forward to Mark Hamil in Ep 8. I think he's a far better actor now than he was back in eps 4-6.

Except, how does Rey even know what a Jedi Mind Trick is? Or a Force Grab? Especially given that she's had no interaction with Force users or Jedi.

There are tales and legends of what Jedi can do. All the Aliens know what flipping Jedi can do. Everyone in this Universe knows what Jedi can do. If the only way you could use Jedi powers is by being taught then when the last Jedi dies their would be no more. And their would be the question of how they got started in the first place.

There isn't an explanation that makes sense.

Loses the will to live after giving birth to 2 children because she was choked a little.

I ordered Lost Stars after the praise in the threads here. I've never read a Star Wars novel, so I'm pretty curious.

That's kind of cool. It's a shame he came off looking a little too...clean? Like a plain face they smacked a scar on and then the burn by the mouth. But he was a hologram, so I'd be perfectly fine if they took creative liberties to tweak and fine tune him by the time the next one comes out. Could easily be seen as features simply not translating or showing well through the hologram/whatever.

But again---I do like the idea behind Snoke you mentioned. That burned twist of skin by the side of his mouth looks like someone playing around with force lightning too much.

She lost the will to live and gave up after losing Anakin.

Seems like a pretty good explanation considering all the unexplained nonsense the franchise has.

In the Star Wars Wikia:

Snoke's design is similar to Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie’s early design for Emperor Palpatine.

Could be bullshit or speculation though I guess.

Well the Sith are kind of a revolving door of the apprentice killing the master. It's no wonder that an immense amount of fresh anger could overpower someone whose hatred is become modus operandi.

Opening crawl:

"Rey has begun her training with Jedi Master Luke Skywalker"

We'll see. While not in cinemas, there's certainly been no shortage of Star Wars cartoons and videogames coming out. I've already trained myself to only be excited for the main events

LOL, she died of a broken heart, it's stupid.

I don't think it's that straightforward. I think she died from childbirth complications but didn't try to actually fight to stay alive because of what happened. She didn't die FROM a broken heart, you can't die from an emotion but if you're dying from other complications and don't try to fight it, that's possible.

Really surprised that Luke didn't show up until the very end. I figured this movie would pretty much just show us the old actors to say "hey they're here!" And move on. But it's really neat he's obviously going to play a bigger role in the others.

The droid said there was no medical reason, she just lost the will to live.

I was thinking of when Rey's being dragged off my Unkar, my mistake.

For the bit you're talking about, I think it's just a flashback vision of when Kylo and the Knights of Ren wipe out Luke's students. She's not actually there. She just watches it unfold. That's my take on it anyway.

Yeah that sounds much better I'll go with that. His answer back at me dad wouldn't the love and birth of her kids make her want to live that's pretty selfish of her. She's probably sith also lol love convos with him

Isn't it technically possible to die from broken heart? Some people have been known to suddenly die shortly after a loved one passed away prior. I think it mostly applies to some old people though...

Doubt it, not impossible, but it looks like whoever is there is afraid as fuck of those guys, and it really looks like someone was going to kill that person and Kylo saves them. Also I doubt Kylo would walk menacingly towards Luke, and it cuts straight to Rey crying to her parents leaving her.

The vision really seems to spell out that Kylo and Co. killed the jedis, someone MIGHT have tried to kill Rey but Kylo saved her, and she was then dropped off somewhere, which ALMOST make it sound like it was Snoke or Kylo's idea to not kill Rey and drop her off on Jakku.

A clear minded Obi-Wan beat a raging prime Anakin as well though--something to remember.

But there is just way too much story there to pass over. Why is he hiding, how will he react to Han being dead, what is his reaction to his daughter showing up :p we will need some clunky conversation where they fill us in with backstory. The crawl can't do it cause the crawl doesn't talk about feelings or emotions.

The new trilogy is Star Wars, the anthology movies will have their own feel. But yea I don't see Rogue One rivaling TFA.
