Leaked Tom Clancy's The Division Closed Alpha Gameplay (Xbox One)

Thought i'd chime in after watching all the gameplay footage here. So, as someone who has always been 'lukewarm' to The Division (not bad looking, but nothing had grabbed me about any of its prior gameplay demos), this footage has definitely just turned this game into a 'will not touch' for me. I know theres a lot of people testifying to how great & fun the game is when you play it, and thats fine; there are plenty of games that people have the utmost fun with that I just don't enjoy, and vice versa. Games have to appeal to me on some level for me to allow myself the opportunity to enjoy it, and nothing about this footage, or even any of the earlier scripted demos, have given me a reason to do so for this game.

I'm actually really thankful for this gameplay footage, because it has given a very 'grounded' idea of what the game will look/feel like when all of the gameplay elements aren't blending together in that oh-so-perfect way that the scripted demos have shown us thus far.

Also, to the people saying 'this is just Alpha! Game isn't done yet; let them finish this up before we pass judgement!', a game that is this far out (within 3 months, last I checked) is usually not going to change on any fundamental level.

Or just play the beta when it comes.

Alpha was likely deliberately gimped for file size. Nobody wants to download a 50gb Alpha. Resolution might not jump magically, but the texture quality (for example) will.

Or just play the beta when it comes.

Nothing from what I have seen, especially after these pieces of gameplay footage, would ever entice me to try it. I've played 3rd person shooters before, i've played mmo-lite titles before, i've played socially driven games before - nothing i'm seeing here is coming across as some experience that is coming together in a way that makes it greater than the sum of its parts.

What this new footage has done is turned my 'this may or may not be boring, let's see.' into a 'well, looks boring'. If the game & alpha is doing it for people - great, more power to them. This footage however just told me its not something I want at all. I'm sure there are people who have seen this & got super stoked on The Division and i'm happy for them.

Sorry, what a stupid excuse.
There is no reason not to try a beta/demo. Especially if you are on the fence with 'this may or may not be boring, let's see.' and then make you decision on some crapy vids when you sometime later can try the game yourself with a controller in your hand.

After playing the alpha, I was sold.

Hunting around NYC with your friends is gonna be a blast. Can't wait for the beta so I can play on PS4.

'It doesn't look like something i'm interested in' isn't a valid excuse? I've seen the footage, none of it is appealing to me, especially now. I should just give them more of my time to play their beta? Why would I waste mine & their time if its already something i'm not enjoying.

I'm not even questioning why other's would find it enjoyable. I'm simply stating that, due to this new footage reaffirming some of my already established impressions, i'm longer on board. And i'm glad for those became even more hyped with this new footage!

Why click on the thread and make a comment if you clearly already made op you mind before about the game.

I hadn't made up my mind about the game before seeing the footage in the OP. In fact, you even quoted my reasoning as to me being on the fence, and my very first comment was me stating how my opinion on the title both started, and has evolved, as a result of seeing the gameplay footage that is being shown in the OP. I was literally giving commentary to the topic of discussion in this thread - the leaked gameplay Alpha footage. All of my follow-up posts has been in retort to you.

I just dont get why you dont even want to try a beta when its just is free try of playing a game you are slighty intrested in. But then already make a conclusion of some crappy vids. I dont get it. I didnt have much intrest in the game before i played the alpha. He maybe that could happen to you also with the beta. These demo/betá's are a great final decision maker and i dont get why you wouldnt take that opportunity.

He's trolling. I know he's in alpha (junior member) but I wouldn't put much thought into what he's saying, we already know how he will turn out here.

There are several betas that are 'just free'. I can go on Steam or XBL or PSN and try a multitude of different betas for several different games if I wanted to. However, just because they are available, doesn't mean i'm obligated to play them, or that they're entitled to me giving them a try. Just like everything else in life, they have to appeal to me in order for me to want to try them. And while earlier scripted demos hadn't turned me away, I wasn't sold on The Division either. This gameplay footage showed a few definitive sides of the game that I know I won't enjoy, hence why its no longer something I will put any of my precious time towards, regardless of whether or not its free.

And for the ones who are enjoying The Division, and who are walking away from this Alpha footage even more hyped, I say - more power to ya! I'm glad the game is pulling you further in. But this just pushed me away, and thats okay too.

What does that mean? I can't voice my opinion on footage for a game in a thread where that footage is being discussed?? I'M NOT EVEN LAMBASTING THE GAME HERE! There are people that this is resonating really well with, either because they enjoy the footage, or they've had hands-on time with the game, or both and i'm glad it is!

Is anybody else bummed that the "Division" is actually some organization? I thought the name "The Division" was more about an event. Like, an outbreak occurred and since then, people were divided for the sake of survival. People turning on each other, survival of the fittest. That kind of thing.

Well we know what it was from the very very first teaser haha.
The Division is just a sleeper cell of agents. When society falls apart, police system isnt working again etc those become active to create some order.

won't lie,

the division wasn't on my radar, but after watching those alpha leak videos I'm definitely going to play the beta because it looks kinda fun
and if that goes well, then ubi can have more of my money 😊

I still don't understand Ubisoft. They saw that they can't stop leaks and instead of publishing 30 minute gameplay video in good quality they are just going around and hunt leaked footage. And if they released footage same day Alpha went live they would have most views.

I've been reading the thread from afar and feels like the kind of discussion we have here is fueled by the hatred towards ubi than this actually being a bad game.

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand people not wanting another ubisoft: the game and even bashing the game before hand considering what we've seen from ubi for a while now.

Me, I wont. Funny thing is 6 months ago I would have grabbed my pitchfork and done the exact thing as some of you are doing in this thread.

Ubisoft has just launched R6 which people was talking so good of that I had to buy it (and oh boy, best multiplayer comptetitive FPS of the year, easy). Just because of that release I'm giving credit where credit is due and I will be looking forward to this The Division and also to For Honor.

I mean guys, they do Assasins' and Far Cry's, then bash away, but once the show a new game with new mechanics and ideas please lets keep open minded about it and avoid going for "it's ubi, it's evil" approach.

Sam Fisher also wore one that's a single strap.

It's burned into my mind as a part of Ubisoft game(s) for some reason.

Im fairly certain his pack is based on this.

http://www.511tactical.com/select-carry-sling-pack.html

The front can also be outfitted with with a pistol pouch.

In reference to The Division, you can pick up larger and more varied packs, including traditional backpacks.

I don't know if there are animations of the player characters holstering/unholstering guns from bags but that would be cool.

Also complaining about backpacks?

Will play the demo / beta (if I have access) but gameplay doesn't seem to be something I'll enjoy for more than a few hours.

This said this is Alpha and I've seen nothing of the game yet (I'm trying to keep my hopes for this game even if it's Ubi...). And downgrade? Yeah it seems too but again Alpha + shitty video quality + Ubi (promises gold and delivers.... well something else) so not suprising and not accurately measurable for now. Let's wait release, I'm sure there'll be plenty of things to complain about -_- (starting by backpack... lol people please).

Before I start a counter to this very negative thread, I will say this. This type of thread is the reason why we can't have nice things. The game clearly has an NDA because the developers are not done with the game and people know how gamers react when they see gameplay regardless of whether it is done or not. The fact that we can't respect that and give the individuals who are working tirelessly on this game a chance to finish it before judging, is why gamers are seen as such a toxic group. So I will break NDA in defense of the game. As someone who has played it versus watching a video and mindlessly coming to a conclusion. It's very funny to read the difference in opinions form those on the alpha forums form NEOgaffers who watched a video. What's the difference, one group played the game and the other did not. Funny how that works, huh?

On the topic of graphical downgrade
Of course, the game has been downgraded. Listen, I don't agree with how Ubi shows their games and then never meet their target. But again, the game is not finished and no poorly compressed YouTube video is going to help . The character models are a bit uneven in their quality but there are several places in this game where I was floored. This is the most detailed recreation of NYC that there has ever been. As a former resident the amount of detail in this game is astonishing! At night time the game is astonishing. The Christmas lights and their reflections at night are a sight to be seen. The snow covered streets feel like they were lived in and the citizens were ripped from their lives. This is no generic city that they call NYC, everything screams legitimacy. The feeling of loneliness and despair is palpable and it is played up via the awesome environment. The game looks overall better in certain areas than others but I was very impressed graphically. You just need to play it for yourself to appreciate the details.

On the topic of the game is boring
This is going to be super subjective. The first time I played the game it was by myself. I will admit it was not very fun.I felt that bored feeling. This will no doubt be something that should be addressed for the final game. Playing the game with a good set of friends is night/day different. Unlike other open world games there are no cars to get in to get to your objective. You walk together and that plays into the level of discovery that is awesome. You discover echoes (stories that allow you to listen in on what happened in that spot before everything went to shit) You discover abandoned apartments in buildings that you allow you to take a peek into how real people lived. And this is what the game is all about. Sure there are missions that are very shooter and game-y but the moments that were most awesome were those in which you just explored. The moments that were grounded in realism. The videos do a very poor job in capturing those moments.

So ya know, maybe the non-Xbox owners should wait until the beta to create an opinion because as someone who was not hyped for this game before playing it has shot to the top of my most wanted list. I don't post often but it sucks to see some leaked ALPHA footage be ripped apart and judged before most people have played in the game. For heaven sakes people give it time.

I'm interested in this game, but taking a wait and see approach with this one. Will hold off on making any jugdments about The Division until March.

The game went from what looked like a complex survival game to a destiny rip off. Interest went to -1000.

Honestly, I think the Destiny vibes have always been there (ironic, since I think this game may have even been revealed before Destiny). It's always been a multiplayer shooter-RPG, with a suggested 'kinda-MMO' hook. The setting certainly implied potential gameplay mechanics, but nothing was explicitly promised.

The same hook doomed Watch_Dogs. That initial reveal ('benchmark' visuals aside) suggested something bigger in scope than what Ubisoft was capable of delivering. So when the time came, they were chastised for falling short of promises they never made.

You're not making much sense So you were on the fence with the game meaning you had at least a passing interest in the game or it's concept. Then you watch a video and lose interest. So you are willing to make a purchase decision based on a video of someone else playing a game that you were interested in? And refuse to try the game you were on the fence about (not even a free beta) That is utterly ridiculous.

Comparing this Xbone gameplay (which looks like it was recorded at like 480p and then upscaled to 720p) with something that was most likely done in-engine with all stuff turned up to the max which could only run on PC is not something to scream downgrade for.

Even if you are just jokingly saying that now

They "played it" it with a PS4 controller. That's misleading enough.
Besides, this isn't the first time Ubisoft's tried to pull a fast one... So don't bother defending them.
If it's not ready, don't show if off - Simple as that.

You do realize that just because we are playing the alpha, does not mean the game is in the alpha stage of development. You do realize there are different builds of games, right?

None of these videos have done it for me, if there is a chance for me to demo the game without pre-ordering, I'll try it out. Certainly not a day one purchase for me and I doubt I'll get it. Just seems a bit boring to me

Poorly captured video, uploaded to youtube, from an alpha and from the XBO. Obviously it's going to look bad. I'd wait for the final game running in a top notch PC to compare it properly to the first videos.

Regarding the "controlled leak" claims, I think it doesn't make sense. Ubisoft has a huge youtube channel where they post The Division videos from time to time, so if they want to share a video the team would put it there making sure it looks good.

I don't think it's a controlled leak either

I thought Watch Dogs was out of this world when I seen the E3 first version (or whatever version it was). Then when I actually got the final game it was a big let down, the graphics scaled back so much that it almost felt last gen.

But the thing that really got me was that Watch Dogs wasn't much of a new game, it was kinda boring and predictable. Looking at that Division footage OP posted it looks and feels just like any other game. I hope I am wrong but I'm in no rush for this release.

The big question is how the youtube videos are still up. Is it from their new policy protecting uploaders?

Edit: Of course now they're gone. Hahaha. But damn, they were up for a very long time.

Plenty of media sites have reported about this thread, some of them like Eurogamer basically saying their readers to come here to download the potato quality videos.

I get why there is an NDA in place but plenty of people is experiencing this game in the worst way possible right now, that can't be good for business.

Played the Alpha, had a lot of fun, day 1. Sure, not as spectacular as the first reveal, but it still delivers.
