Halo 5 Forge |OT| Plan, Build, Share

two shortcuts missing from the tooltips

-changing pivot and center of mass
-changing rotation axis between world, object and camera

the shortcuts more than make up for the inverted shenanigans

god. damnit.

For the the first time I had the 'did alot of shit w/o saving and then the dedis randomly restart shit'

I had literally just finished the buildout of turf 100% and was spawning weapons

Are Trait Volumes still a thing?

EDIT: just thinking out loud here, but you could probably emulate "proximity volumes" (e.g. a door opens as you approach it) if you used hills, untagged stronghold zones, etc. provided that they were considered "disturbed" once someone enters them.

If trait zones are still a thing, it'd also be interesting to script one to move around the map; not sure what kind of practical purpose that'd actually serve, but, eh, y'know.

How do you do the rotation thing? rotation has been fucked for me since the beginning...

Anyone try making lit up, or strobbing signage? Wondering if you could make the decals appear digital in nature via scripting scolling or flashing along with glass and lights. Would be cool for city maps ala odst "caution" and "danger" signage.

tried something like it the other day. wanted a restricted sign to scroll left to right and then despawn, and respawn again in the spot it was originally. couldn't get it to despawn fast enough and then i'd see it flying across the map. maybe the sign was too small.

a strobbing sign sounds more doable though. should be able to script the decal and a light to spawn and despawn at regular intervals. put a flicker effect on the light and shine it on the decal.

this forge is fucking awesome. am constantly blowing my mind by how liberating it is that i can finally - actually - build things i see in my head

Ran into some kinda object bug. Can't even select a few objects. The details panel doesn't show up or anything so it isn't locked

This is the same bug that killed my map a few times. There's no fix as far as I know.

I'm not sure what causes it but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with groups.

Damn... oh well. Wasn't liking the way it was going any way.

edit: Yeah I think it might have been because it was a group under another group. Gonna be safe and not save the map with any groups made like that lol

yeah its groups

spawn 3 objects and make a group, then ungroup it, i guarantee there will be a shit ton more than 3 objects selected, and they will be random as hell

edit:
making progress on the great lightmap clusterfuck of 2015.
I really didnt think this would be such an issue.. sigh

Thanks for posting the tutorial videos. I'm brand new to Forge so they will be very helpful.
I do have a question that I haven't seen answered yet for beginner Forgers. When I open Alpine for example, there are already spawn points and other thing's already on the map. Can I delete these things and start with a empty map or do I leave them there until I have built everything and then delete?
I have used Source and UE3 before but they always start with a blank map and leave it up to you to put spawn points and other thing's down yourself. Thank you in advance for any info you could provide.

You can delete them, but keep at least one just in case you die in forge so you can respawn.

Out of interest, were you welding as well as grouping? It seems like that may be the cause for some issues.

Niiiiiiice. Looking a little more polished than last time I saw it. Love the aesthetic of it. Don't forget I'm here day or night to help test it :)

I think this is the first time i can look at a layout i've made and say that there are no glaring flaws with it. We spent like 3 hours problem solving the spawn hives (added 5 new ones) and lines of sight and it's really solid right now. I just have to rebuild it with a slight descale and then polish up the geo.

The only thing I'd say goat, is for me, the purple light in the thumbnail looks way out of place. Might look better in motion though.

They all have a cone I haven't bothered to turn off. I wouldn't stress about details though. I'm very cautious of lighting bloom, rocks catching grenades, fog affecting lines of sight, etc. All part of the polish phase which for this map will be very meticulous.

The hexagons at the bottom of the map for example have an invisible barrier over them because i want to keep the asymmetric geo without impeding clamber. Was annoying on Haven how you could get stuck on them.
