Most disappointing story of 2015?

Halo 5 is both the worst and most disappointing. Hunt the truth? Lol

MGSV just tells too much in the tapes. And that essay someone wrote that was linked in the spoiler thread made the story itself a lot better.

I surprisingly didn't play much in terms of story games as far as expectations go, so I'll just say Corpse Party Blood Drive. It was by no means bad, but not really how I wanted the conclusion to the trilogy to play out.

If we're talking games hyped up for their stories, I didn't think Life is Strange was amazing. I did like it though.

MGSV is probably most disappointing for me.

I think MKX, Bloodborne, and Xenoblade X all had disappointing stories for me to varying degrees, but I also loved those games.

Arkham Knight probably has the worst story, but I expected nothing. It was just worse than nothing.

Edit: Oh, wait, Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls. That is a close second to MGSV.

MGSV for me. Games plays fantastically well, but the story was incredibly disappointing. Felt pretty self contained and further away from the other games. The trailers for the game pretty much showing almost all of the cinematics too.

Metal Gear Solid V no contest. After building that shit up for so long by saying it would show how a hero would turn evil and hyping up Quiet as a character and Ground Zeroes coming up and showing the mysterious XOF led by Skullface and having that all amount to nothing because the game wasn't allowed to be finished so we got a wholly unsatisfactory story that never delivered on any of the hope or hype surrounding it. Plus
so much of that was just parasites did it. How do you not learn your lesson from MGS4 and just make the same mistakes again
.

It's gotta be MGSV, if only because it's a franchise where I really expect something special from the story (even if I don't like it as with 4). It's to the point where it even stretches the definition of "disappointing story" since it barely even has a story at all, there's simply no attempt to tell a good one. It's the "the bad guy is here, go get him. Okay, now he's here. Okay you're done now" kind of justification-for-action you'd get in a NES game.

It's not necessarily a disappointing story overall, but I did think Life is Strange left me a little cold at the end. It's not so much that they didn't stick the landing, I think they mostly did (it has a willingness to put its characters through the wringer that not many other games have), but looking back from the end, a couple shortcomings that had been there for the whole thing became a little more apparent. I hope season 2 has a stronger protagonist.

A Metal Gear game having a bad story? Shocked I tell you. SHOCKED.

People mostly like the stupid but fun and sometimes emotional and interesting stories of 1-4. The one here is practically non-existent. The reasons people didn't like this story are much different. Whatever one thinks of the previous stories, you can't call 'em soulless.

MGS V easily. Honestly still can't believe how bad it was, just an absolute mess.

Fallout 4 and Halo 5 have awful stories too but then I didn't really play either for their stories.

The Order: 1886

So much potential but they fucking blew it.

Nah... The story is solid and the end is boss. It deserve a sequel. Grayson/Galahad going rouge with Merlin, Tesla, the Indian Chick. Cool.

But metal gear solid V... dude what a cluster fuck of plot.

Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void I personally found the plot to be so bad, so sub- Saturday morning cartoon- as to be actually embarrassing to play through.

Many games had bad story, but I did not expect anything in the first place in those cases.
I guess technically, it would be Fire Emblem If: Anya/Nohr side, for having a worse story than Byakuya/Hoshido.

Still top 3 gameplay wise

MGSV. No competition.

It came from a series known for its narrative heavy stories with twists.

The twist is uneventful and there was hardly any decent narrative cutscenes.

As a massive fan of the Halo series and halo lore halo 5 was a massive disappointment...

I get the same feelings regarding that story like I did with the star wars prequels... I actually feel it was so bad it detracted and made the things before it worsea and gives me little hope for the future with 343i behind the wheel.

MGSV wins, probably

Arkham Knight is close, though. I feel like all of the batmobile complaints overshadow just what complete garbage that game's story was. I could write a laundry list of how dumb and nonsensical it is.

Bloodborne
While the story isn't bad at all I had to watch that guy's boodborne explained video on youtube to really tie everything together. It doesn't really bother me though as I'm mostly enjoying it for the excellent gameplay and setting.

Can't say I was pleased with how Legacy of The Void worked out. Or Halo 5. Or MGSV.

Starting to see a trend forming...

Do they still have Metzen writing the Starcraft games?

If so, I can certainly imagine LotV having the worst story of the year, though I'm not sure how you could be disappointed (or at all surprised) to find that out.

MGSV by a mile.

I'm a huge fan of the series and this is by far the most dissapointing story, especially if you look at all the hype surrounding the game and building up by Kojima pre-release.

Fallout 4 didn't dissapoint me because Bethesda's story and writing is usually trash tier, I didnt expect much from it because of that. The only Bethesda story I love is Morrowind.

Bloodborne

Wow. For me it has one of the best
cosmic horror/lovecraftian stories
ever told in ANY medium.

Arkham knight for me.

Not saying its bad, but the potential it had was abruptly ended.

I thought it as actually the best Arkham storyline of the series BUT

HUGE DUMB SPOILER FOR ARKHAM KNIGHT
Th Arkham Knight reveal was literally th worst character they could have picked to be the Arkham Knight

MGSV. I like over the top silly MGS shenanigans and Kojima nonsense. But what's in MGSV is a bad story badly told. The twist at the end is alright, and could have been interesting, if he'd actually done something with it.

Origins' story is miles better than anything in the Rocksteady Arkhams, imo.

I'm not sure if Knight beats out City for worst, because City's story was horrible, but I thought Knight's was pretty bad.
Beyond the Arkham Knight reveal, which was insanely telegraphed, there's oracle basically just being used as a damsel in distress, all of that nonsense with Joker Disease, the way they completely squandered the Hush setup from City, etc. Just a mess.

Arkham Knight.

I enjoyed the story and character interactions of the first 2, but Arkham Knight was very stale to me.

Marvel

could never
MGSV.

That shit was both saddening and rage inducing. What a way to end the Kojima saga of the franchise.

I've never been so mad and disapoint at a game in my life.

My actual answer is TellTale's Game of Thrones because of the potential, but I'll give an honorable mention to Bethesda for making Fallout 4's story even worse than the stories of their previous game. Quite a feat.

Super Mario Maker

No consistency in its character models, too many recycled environments, and the story was so half-assed you had to build it yourself.

I'm amazed that I went into Fallout 4 with incredibly low expectations, and left disappointed all the same.

It's almost like they stopped doing shitty scenario design by accident, and instead actively tried to have the shittiest story possible. End to end, top to bottom, back to front ridiculous.

"Dear Santa: I want you to commit a fuckton of murders without motivation"

  • Hehehe murder
  • murder, you say?

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
Toss-up between MGSV for its sordid attempt bad-but-not-in-a-Metal-Gear-way story and Fallout 4 and the butchering of the dialogue system, and its implications to the overarching plot.

I didn't finished Xenoblade Chronicles X yet (I'm about to get my Lv50 Skell to kick the final boss) but the story is so badly written (and that goddamn Tatsu) I can't believe it's the same team who wrote Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii.

The excuse of "Well, there's online and you have a custom character so he won't talk and we have to rekt the original story" is kinda bullshit : Mass Effect have too a custom character and it's beyond everything XenoX can offer in term of writing.

Don't get me wrong : I love XenoX, but damn !
