Why doesn't the Xbox One play CDGs?

CD+G(raphics)

I had the Jimi Hendrix and Information Society ones, neat stuff

Damn, apparently there were MP3+G's and WMA+G's too. This shit had potential... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3+G

Because Big Karaoke lobbied so that only their own machines can play it.

Can you give a source on this? I've always wondered why CD+G just came and went despite having support from major publishers.

It seems that no PlayStation console played them, nor the final Sega console, the Dreamcast for that matter. Just saying that the Sega CD or the Sega Saturn played them is leaving out the important info of few disc-based consoles doing so, and none with a first release date anywhere in the world after 1994.

I've never even heard of the format until this thread- that should be your answer right there. What on earth would you possibly need to look at on a CDG that you can't accomplish with any myriad of media solutions.

Edit: oh it's a karaoke thing. Isn't that what youtube is for? lol

I feel silly that I used to be disappointed that my HD-DVD addon wouldn't work with the Xbox One.

I still wish it'd work somehow...

But it is a shame that CD+G died Now we'll never know what say the lead singer of Kean's top ten Spock quotes are.

Even though they were one of the first to embrace this technology I had a feeling Information Society was even hurting for content to fill the thing up.
