Oculus Rift available for preorder for $599.99, shipping in March

So conversion puts it just over £400 but I'm seeing them pricing it at £500?

If Valve are willing to take a more than decent loss (which they should since they own the storefront) then they can win the war before it starts

And Blu-Ray sells nowhere near what DVD did.

DVD was expensive as fuck too when it launched.

Early technology tends to be expensive.

It's a consumer product now but this won't be the unit that is a mass market success. That's two-three years down the line.

Lol their compatibility tool says that my i7 2600 does not meet the requirements which is at least an i5 4590. And I don't have enough USB 3.0 ports. What?

That's crazy. Valve/HTC have a great opportunity here.

Are you kidding? Vive's tech is probably going to cost more than the Rift, even without the tie-ins. Expect $800-900.

PSVR requires an EXTERNAL processing box and methinks that will not be cheap either. It'll probably be in the $500-600 range too unless Sony decides to subsidize the hardware - why bother with that in the first year or so though?

Almost a $1k Canadian after taxes, Im completely out, specially since we dont really have that many VR experiences that I see spending many hours in, no killer app.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
499 pound sterling WITHOUT shipping is a disgraceful price.

Youve lost your shit Palmer. VR future now in jeopardy.

I had actually been putting away a little bit every month for a while now to put towards a headset and I have just under 450 in that fund. It wouldn't kill me to toss in another 150, but still, I'm not sure I can justify 600. I'm an early-ish adopter in general but this is probably a bit past what I'm comfortable with. If it comes out and it's holy-shit amazing and similar rigs to mine can run things perfectly maybe I'll grab one.

I really don't see how or why there's any surprise in regards to the price. We all pretty much knew to expect this, didn't we?

Either way... now I'm debating whether or not to bite.

That argument is not what you think it is. First of all, blu-ray players aren't that popular, especially when compared to DVD players.

Second, it would have been even more dead at that price point.

Yet you still know a bunch of people who own Blu-Ray players, do you not?

It was killed by streaming, not it's price point a decade ago.

I was expecting this price considering the tech, but I probably can't even run the games properly on my PC. Guess it's PSVR for me.

I knew it was going to be expensive, but not THAT expensive! I was expecting something like $400. Damn. Guess the majority of people will just havd to wait until the price goes down.

$840 Canadian

add in a $300 PC upgrade that would take me just below the min specs. (Which means I probably would need $600 worth of upgrades to take me above the min line).

Very pricey

Yeah, I'm at recommended specs, and I'm waiting for it to be about CAD$700 (I already have two XB1 controllers, so I can always flip one) net, though that includes shipping/duty/taxes. If it had come in at that price point I was in.
