Pascal GPU or Oculus rift?

It'll still sell like hot cakes. PC gamers are hardcore gamers. They can afford it.

Rift was always about the long game, not the short

But it is concerning, price will need to be a major focus for the second consumer release

But they need to sell enough of them for the install base to justify devs spending money to create exclusive VR stuff. And if the games aren't there people won't be willing to drop $500 on a headset.

What the hell were you people expecting? We all knew VR is gonna be expensive.

Unless you are ignoring the cost of the PS4 console, don't expect PSVR to be much more affordable.

Champagne must be popping at Sony.

They've been so damned lucky this generation. Everyone is fucking up everywhere, and all Sony has to do is play it safe.

The real winners in all of this are Kickstarter backers.

I'd be worried if I were an Oculus owner though. I don't see much of an install base developing at that price point, which is going to make it a difficult sell for software developers.

Vive has to 999.99 I would believe. O.R. just set the bar. My guess would be PSVR 499, Vive 999, OR now confirmed 599.

It is quite expensive. If I can get the damn store to load I'll preorder one and think about keeping it or not over the next month.

This is my expectation as well. This tech is expensive. I'm okay with $599 of the competition is at the same level, but I think it would be dumb to not wait and see what PSVR is going to cost and the Vive Pre. Honestly I'm expecting PSVR to be $599 too. Maybe if Sony has the capital to make nothing or take a loss on VR it may be cheaper, but I highly doubt it. Did anyone really expect it to be cheaper than $599 with all the talk?

Why would Vive cost that much more?

They are going for the top of the line experience. The headset is more costly, includes 2 controllers and at least 1 lighthouse if not 2. Maybe they will come in at 899, but I'm setting my expectations at 999 now.

Changing the region shows that Australia gets the price of $649, it doesnt say if thats AUD or not. If it is, we are getting it cheaper than the US. Yep based on people ordering from au its 780 including shipping, thats around 550 USD. Finally Australia doesn't get the shaft.

Wow. That's price is a lot higher than I expected. I was think $399, but this is another stratosphere.

I'm honestly surprised that everyone is surprised by this price. I thought most people on gaf were expecting a price like this.

Yeah for a bleeding edge piece of virtual reality technology it doesn't seem like a crazy price to me. As other have said: it's about the same price as the latest flagship cellphones.

Damn was looking forward to this . Was willing to even spend 600$ cdn. But cdn $ with shipping etc will be 900-1000$. I think that's a little more then I wanted to spend . Damn

Too expensive for me. I'll wait until I can get a stripped down package without the Xbox One controller or the games. Or just see what the rest of the market looks like when the others launch.

I haven't been following both of them but in all the previews from Engadget it seemed they compared favorably to each other no?

Plus even if its not the same high resolution offering or whatever the differences are if PSVR is at a consumer price point it has the chance to easily be the market leader.

You are forgetting that the OR is being inherently subsidized by the consumer paying for the PC. PSVR already requires an external box to operate.

PSVR will be $500 and lower specs than OR.

Been waiting since 2013 for this.

Think I'll wait a little longer.

Seriously, £80 more than the current exchange rate? WHY?

Holy shit guys, the first Blu-Ray player is going to cost $1000. RIP Blu-Ray, DOA.
This is a bad comparison. Video playing devices and TVs are always much more expensive at first and then cheaper parts/production along with competition drive the price down. This is more like if Apple had released a new product that cost as much as an iPad while still requiring the iPad itself... except without the Apple brand recognition.

I really don't see how or why there's any surprise in regards to the price. We all pretty much knew to expect this, didn't we?

Either way... now I'm debating whether or not to bite.

No. Because the DK2 is a 1080p unit and worked really well for HALF this price. This is just stupid.

Thanks Oculus! You rejected my completely valid credit card, so now I am free I guess. It will be fun to spend the corresponding sum of money on something worthwhile instead.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
That's quite expensive, but it was expected, considering the tech behind it. I assume PSVR will range between 299.99 to 349.99. Being higher than that would be suicidal.

Personally, I'm going to take a wait and see approach to all the VR offerings. After the other guys reveal their prices, and impressions/reviews compare all of them, then I'll jump into the best one. One thing's for certain, their all gonna be expensive.
