I know PSVR will be cheaper than this. By how much who knows. Sony could do some serious VR business if they go really daring with the price. Many will be put off the double cost of upgrading their PC and the Rift. Plug and play and by all accounts not all that inferior VR for a much cheaper price, especially if you already have PS4 as 35 million people do.

This market could be Sony's. Even $400 seems decent now. For me that would probably mean £300 UK which is what I'm.happy to pay for already. Fingers cross.

Anyone who things Playstation VR will be any less expensive is bananas. Sony isn't going to bend over backwards and push these things out cheap.

Also, shockingly, a fairly powerful PC is required to run games at 120fps (120hz displays) at 4320x1200.

This current thread meltdown is ridiculous.

But they need to sell enough of them for the install base to justify devs spending money to create exclusive VR stuff. And if the games aren't there people won't be willing to drop $500 on a headset.

Most people don't even have the computer to drive this thing as it is right now. The only people buying this thing are us crazy morons.

I mean you're totally right, but I think we really do have to accept that this thing and god help us the vive are going to be on the cutting edge for the present and there is no way around that.

I don't think the price is that bad, even though my prediction was $499. I'd have pre-ordered if I was a PC gamer. PSVR is gonna be a lot cheaper now imo. Like maybe up to $200 cheaper. Day one on that regardless of price though.

lol at people complaining about not being able to be an early adopter. Its an early adopter price, and its gonna be expensive as stated by Palmer Luckey, people surprised should remember that PC hardware is usually pricey if you're going for top tier stuff.

Getting constant 1 dollar charges and 1 dollar refunds every time a transaction is attempted.

Will that negatively affect credit somehow?

Super duper common in the consumer electronics world, not entirely sure why anyone is surprised. Video games are the exception to the rule, I feel. Sony tried to put the PS3 into that world last gen and it hurt them bad.

If Rift is 700 EUR, I'm really afraid for Vive (HMD+Lighthouse, ...). :(

I knew VR was going to be expensive, but is straight robbery via US->EUR conversion rates. God damn it. :(

Think I'll hold off. The price scares me, but I'd still bite the bullet IF i knew this thing was going to be supported well in it's first incarnation. At that price I'm thinking devs are going to be very shy about using it.

A good price to start from. You need a >1000$ Pc so it's an investment either way. If you don't like it, wait for another generation/a few years. Dunno what all the fuss is about, to be honest.

Don't you mean Oculus Rip? :p

I know, Oculus RIP was just sitting there for him.

I really expected $499, but having it be $840CDN before shipping and taxes is an obvious "nope" for me.

I expect the PSVR to be more expensive than the PS4 was when I got it thanks to the tanking dollar here, there is simply no way it won't be more expensive than $399. :\ If that's the case, I will likely wait a while on that too.

What happened to the dedicated vrGAF crowd?

We're here. It's not that many people. There are A LOT more never-going-to-buy-it-anyway-but-I'll-comment-on-price crowd in this thread.

Exactly like the one post that summed up what this would be like in the other thread. pages of gifs and NO and HAHAHAHAHA and then it will move into discussion once the drive-bys are gone.

Yeah for a bleeding edge piece of virtual reality technology it doesn't seem like a crazy price to me. As other have said: it's about the same price as the latest flagship cellphones.

But with those flagship cellphones you can actually do something. This is just an enclosed screen. You still need a $1000 PC to use it.

You are forgetting that the OR is being inherently subsidized by the consumer paying for the PC. PSVR already requires an external box to operate.

PSVR will be $500 and lower specs than OR.

Yeah my statement is that this is Sony's for the taking if they can launch at a really competitive price otherwise your right the lower specs won't be worth the trade off.

I finally got my preorder to go through by switching from Firefox over to Chrome and using PayPal.

April? That's not Q1. Did anyone get in on an earlier preorder who got an earlier date?

Absolutely gutted. I was prepared for up to €600 and thought I was being generous. Not paying €699 plus shipping.

I guess I'll forget VR for now.

Yikes with shipping and taxes it's almost $1000 in Canada. I want this badly but not at that price I can build an entire PC for that price.

Something went wrong. Please try again.

What a wonderfully verbose error message. Take my money already.

I think this is another reason they should have started early and small with things similar to the DKs. They would have been cheaper and not as good but probably good enough for people to be happy with and you can upgrade each year as things improve and become cheaper. There's nothing perfect about any of this VR tech, it's going to be a iterative product driven by consumer feedback so there's no reason to keep holding back and waiting for that perfect moment that will never happen. At least they have a date though, so we'll get some traction and eventually price drops.

Maybe but it sure as heck would make the PSVR look more appealing regardless (if they price it right).

To people that just want to experience VR, it might sway them to PSVR. But to those that want to play on (PC) way better hardware that can accomodate a Rift or a Vive, that's not going to change really.

I wonder what their sales expectations are at that price point. You're already targeting a niche within a niche with VR, and now it has an even higher barrier to entry.

Though, I suppose the high end PC market has people willing to drop that much money on a gaming device. Maybe a price cut wouldn't actually make that big of a difference in gross sales.
