9 non-specific errors on the credit card (each correctly authorizing). I guess I'll try again. Hope it doesn't slide back in to may at some point.

Where are the impressions? I'm curious to know how the runtime works in 1.0. Is it still as janky of a setup as in the past? Do we still need to run Extended Desktop for much of the software? Even now it is tough to find direct to Rift software. What are the changes to the hardware specifically? What's the resolution, etc?

I'm also not sure why you guys are hating so hard on the $600 price. It's really solid for what you're getting for a brand new technology. Remember, CD-RW drives and Blu-Ray players launched at a higher price than this. The price will drop, guaranteed. Give it time.

I also hope Oculus sticks to their March date. The DK1 constantly missed targets. Now that Oculus is a more mature company, they should be able to make the date.

$599 ouch. Well hopefully the only way is down now (for the price) looks like it's up to Vive or PSVR to make VR accessible to the masses now. I'm still leaning towards PSVR to be the cheapest.

There it is. Your turn, Sony.

I anticipated a significantly more aggressive price point in yesterday's prediction thread because I assumed PSVR and Rift would be playing a similarly long game, not looking to take per-unit profits early on. I also assumed that Sony's offering would be more expensive due to the outboard processing required. Finally, I assumed that the market would grudgingly move units at $599 and beyond that adopters become too few to be worth developing unique software for.

This will be very, very interesting.

If it was a new console and I had the guarantee to keep it for 6+ years like PS3, I might have paid but we all know it won't be 2 years before we get a new superior and cheaper versions while not missing anything gamewise...

Can someone explain the price point rage? I'd be willing to bet that almost every company working on VR/OR isn't expecting to move tons of units this year or even next year for that matter. These next few years will need to be about educating the market and getting *some* people to spend a lot on the product. I remember everyone freaking out about the PS3's price point at launch and then after some years that came to be a great console and gave Sony the momentum needed to launch PS4.

All this to say, sure the price may be expensive right now, but in a few years when more of the general population knows about VR/OR and has tried it, prices will go down and quality of experience as well as variety in games/apps will rise.

For some reason a lot of people were expecting affordable mainstream pricing right away as opposed to enthusiast pricing.

Vive doesn't have Facebook behind it, and it has more complex tech, no? By all means, it should cost more. I expect PSVR to be cheaper, but because its tech will probably be the least advanced.

But Vive might have the one thing people are dying for...Half Life 3.

I don't get it.

We all knew it was going to be pricey. And people are acting like joe smoe with his laptop from 2012 is no longer going to buy OR like that is some sort of loss.

Are people forgetting you need a high end rig to play VR games anyways? This device is for people that have HIGH END GAMING PCS. The OR does nothing without one.

Ya'll are acting like this is a stand alone console. It is a high end accessory that works with high end PCs.

This is what is has been from the start.

A proven VR solution with a unique input device and strong supporting software sounds good for 600, but with how early in the game we are I can't help but feel this is overpriced.

This doesn't include the controllers. Well, it includes the Xbox One controller, but not the touch controllers.

Zero chance.

Why do people think Sony is going to be able to provide a similar VR experience for a lot less money? It's either going to be vastly inferior or around the same price unless Sony decides it can take on a ton of losses in an effort to move these.

600 bucks for a bundled price. I mean it comes with the sensors/controllers and a few games...but that's still about 100-150 more than I'd like to see it.

Your move Sony

Well, will wait.

I suspect they will be sending from USA and are already including customs price on top of the base price for extra quickness vía express shipment.

Not that I wan't to justify the price or anything, but it's what most likely is going on.

Aren't Sony's 3-D HMD's $1000+ ? I'm assuming the OR and pretty much any VR headset has significantly more technology than those, so I'm not expecting anyone's offerings to be much cheaper.

Not actually very surprised, but I'm a VR Skeptic(TM) too so take it with a grain of salt.

Maybe it will be worth jumping in for Oculus 2 or whatever a couple years down the road.

Yep, site keeps giving me the "something went wrong" error every time I attempt to preorder. Gonna take this as a sign that maybe I should hold off for the Vive.

Eh VR is going to die a swift death due to price.

I've used VR headsets pretty extensively and the CV1 is most definitely not worth 600$. People with PCs that expensive could just go buy an amazing 1440p 144hz Gsync IPS monitor and it's a much much better value than a headset that was supposed to be in the ballpark of 350$.

It'll be fun watching Palmer burn though. Should never have made the deal with Zuck.

psvr is going to own the vr market. I doubt it will cost more than a ps4 console
I seriously doubt that.
Phones seem like the most likely candidate for market dominance.
600$ to try a few tech demo and play 2 or 3 little games? No thanks, VR is gonna have a bad start for sure, mass market already has no interest in VR and at that price even the niche of hardcore tech nerds who were into it and have a beast PC to use it will think twice before buying it, i can already see a newer model in a year and a consistent price drop in a few month from now.
VR is about to experience the largest jump in market size in its history. I don't understand how that equates to a bad start.
