600$ to try a few tech demo and play 2 or 3 little games? No thanks, VR is gonna have a bad start for sure, mass market already has no interest in VR and at that price even the niche of hardcore tech nerds who were into it and have a beast PC to use it will think twice before buying it, i can already see a newer model in a year and a consistent price drop in a few month from now.

But there is only 1 screen in PSVR, not 2.

And many people already have the camera and controllers, so if they do a minimal bundle of box + headset....

Also sony get royalty on all software, and maybe they could make it so PS+ is required as well. That would subsidise adoption.

Occulus just get money from the hardware only.

Sony have to go for mass market and make price in same region as console.

The money they are gonna make from vr software will be miniscule and I think Sony knows that. At least I hope they are projecting realistically. So it's basically a nonfactor.

Which is the right approach if you really want something to take off.

The proper balance between power and price is key, much like what Sony did with PS4.

That is not true at all. Business for centuries have focused on the extreme fringe market for success. Sony and the Wii success are just anomalies in the sea of facts.

If you want mass appeal you are suppose to market your product at the fringe and ignore the mass market. The fringe market are trendsetters.

I think I 100% called this price but I mouth off a lot on here.

The price in Canada plus the computer upgrades required to be above the minimum spec on my PC just aren't worth it at this point. For me buying something that expensive and then saddling yourself with the minimum is a waste of money. Gotta go big or not at all. So not at all atm it would seem.

Does anyone think they'll be out of stock from March? The rift is great but I'd like to wait until E3 to see if there is any type of VR lineup.

People forget that they don't expect the masses to adopt it yet.
I don't think that they expect to sell more than half a million over the next year at that price.

The tech is still in its infancy, but VR is here to stay and prices will come down over the next 10 years or so.
10 years???

The Reddit AMA Palmer is going to have tonight is going to be an absolute shit-show. I'm looking forward to it based on Reddit and GAFs responses thus far lol.

At this point your paying $600+ for 2 games. Beyond those two we don't have much info one what/when stuff is coming out.

At that price I'm afraid that there won't be much interest in developing for the thing.

Honestly, I was expecting this...

That is going to hurt, especially when a lot of people will also have to spend money updating their rig. Certainly for anyone who doesn't have a gaming PC, it is going to be really expensive. It will sell to hardcore early adopters, but even gamers on the borderline likely won't bite and the general public is not going to be spending that kind of money. But, this is not cheap technology... HTC Vive is next up and I expect that system to be comparable or even more... Please, Sony, don't let us down... PSVR please be under $300!

I permanently banned my 6 year old daughter from using the PS4 for mistakenly sending grief reports as it's too hard to watch or talk to her
Man the UK always gets ripped off. You're paying $773.

He'll be paying significantly more, he forgot about the customs duty he'll be hit with for buying electronics from abroad. (About another £95 / $138US for a $599 Computer Peripheral shipped from the US)

Ouch, I'm out at that price considering I need to upgrade the PC as well. Maybe when the PSVR comes along..

Why do people think Sony is going to be able to provide a similar VR experience for a lot less money? It's either going to be vastly inferior or around the same price unless Sony decides it can take on a ton of losses in an effort to move these.

They didn't even want to take a loss on PS4 sales, rather than a niche piece of hardware.

The answer is ignorance or inability to see big picture.

Can't justify the purchase at that price. Would also have to invest in a better graphics card if I wanted to jump in. I hope a market develops and where the price of the units can be driven down.

PSVR, you're my only hope.

Gonna enjoy the meltdown when people realize PSVR is going to cost just as much. Guess what people? Nice things cost money, I don't know what people were expecting.

PS+ won't subsidize it and people will bitch about that. PSVR will be priced like to OR targeting early adopters willing to throw money at something with minimal support. PSVR will be priced so that they can lower it over time to drive sales. They aren't going to price it at $300 and leave it there forever.

Like I said, PSVR will be $500.

Anyone who thought VR would be mainstream in its first iteration such as this were ill-informed.

I don't expect PSVR to be THAT much cheaper, will still probably be at least $400 if it is even cheaper.

Better deal than PlayStation VR honestly; think about it (it is guaranteed to work for your computer and the one you build 5 years from now in that sense).

Still, it will take time for these things to go down, a long time. First they need to get rid of the screen door effect to make them truly viable for all.

Pricing is gonna be tricky in the first wave or 2 across the board for these things, wether universal like this, or limited like PlayStation VR.

Expect 450-800 USD for a complete VR starter setup guys.
