Happy for the Revenant, but I still think Spotlight is winning the Oscar. It will be funny seeing people getting all worked-up over Mad Max losing again

Nah, Revanant is a Hollywood dick sucking movie. Spotlight was like a made for TV movie, there was nothing special about it really.
I've seen the entirity of the man's work besides The Revenant (and I'm seeing that tomorrow, sadly), and the man hasn't made a single film I'd consider quality.
So it really does boil down to "my favourite thing didn't win so I'll continuously shit on whatever and whoever did". Keeping it classy.

I would seriously love to see It Follows get a cinematography or scoring nod, but I know it won't happen.
It's not like the Oscars are voted on by thousands of people. He won because he called dibs first.

Carol's cinematography is the best of the year because it actually enhances the story if you pay attention to how everything is framed.

There's a ton of movies every year that deserve to win an award but don't, it's just how it is. Show appreciation for them by watching them and getting others to watch them, not getting hung up over a few statues that all start to blur together the more you see them handed out.

Pretty much. As someone finishing up Penny Dreadful season 2 tonight, Eva Green should have two wins at this point.
Not sure why I ever get my hopes up at awards shows though. The Globes, Oscars and Emmys are a weird mix of populism, close mindedness and Hollywood trendiness that always ends up with a lot of head shaking wins.
Yea at this point I don't see it winning an Oscar. Maybe special effects, but eh who knows. I'm hoping Leo wins an Oscar but you just never fucking know.
To be honest I think Mad Max and George Miller even getting nominated for the Oscar is just as good as it winning it, especially considering it's such a pure action movie that the people awarding these things don't go for at all. Like, no one thought the movie would even reach this far.
The Oscar stuff is just icing on the cake. It's a shame Leo's finally gonna win his Oscar from a film by this guy.

I think that train lost steam. I think Carol and The Revenant have equally huge chances.
It was funny Light Thriller / Drama, and managed to be funnier and more fun that most other comedies. So they gave it a spot it could win, because it couldn't compete for best drama.

If the big short can be called a comedy-drama then this absolutely should too. Gotta say big short did much better drama and humor too tbh
