Does his best thinking in the flying car
FAQ:
Q: Yo, this game kind of sucks, LMAO
A: That's... not a question. Still, it's not an uncommon sentiment within the fanbase. Singing guy (you'll see) inspired... mixed reactions, to say the least. Others found some of the creature enemies disappointing. Still, there's a lot to learn about the lore--background on the T-Virus, Umbrella's history, Wesker, Birkin, and handsome songbird James “The Golden Throat” Marcus
(not actually Marcus)
And while we’re on the subject of sucking: even a really good game might suffer by comparison if it were released between REmake and Resident Evil 4. Sure, RE0 looks inferior standing next to those two… just like almost every game ever made does (disclaimer: this is only the TC’s opinion. Please don’t fill this thread with a barrage of off-topic GOAT lists just because you like something else better). I personally believe that its release timing, coupled with a general unwillingness to manage inventory efficiently, has hurt the game’s legacy. Try meeting the game where it is, and you might have a better experience. YMMV, of course.
Q: REmake is better!
A: That's... not a question, either. In fact, I agree. However, unlike REmake, Capcom still has all the original assets for Resident Evil 0, so this game promises to offer the best technical presentation of the RE "classic" style. Those herbs are gonna look straight-up succulent! See below for links to Capcom's developer diary videos for more information.
Q: I bought REmake when it dropped. I don't think I should be punished by missing out on the exclusive "Origins" costume.
A: Still not a question! According to an official Capcom guy, these things will just sort themselves out automatically on the Steam platform. It may or may not be safe to infer the same about the console versions (especially since there is no “soft bundle” on PSN). Here is a link to the post on GAF (thanks Dusk Golem!): There’s nothing on Unity about it (as of this writing), so that post is all we have to go on. Once somebody can verify/discredit this claim, I will update this OP. However, even though I haven’t seen anything official from Capcom, I believe we are all in for some nice surprises, costume-wise. See video below for more details (unless you want to be surprised). Update: the "soft bundle" concept proved unworkable, so the Origins pre-order bonus is physical only.
Q: I wanna hug some zombies! When can I hug some zombies?
A: Believe it or not, we didn’t hug zombies back then. It kind of makes sense when you think about it.
Q: I played REmake and I still have no idea what the hell is going on here. Why isn’t Rebecca more of a badass in REmake? I don’t get it.
A: You probably aren't alone in wondering, but let’s walk through the whole thing. At the beginning of REmake, remember how the survivors of Alpha Team find Bravo Team's helicopter? Well, Rebecca was on that helicopter. Her adventure in Resident Evil Zero immediately precedes the events of REmake (technically Umbrella Chronicles is in the middle, but you get the idea). She makes her way from one disaster to another. No wonder she seems exhausted and frightened in REmake. She’s an inexperienced 18 year-old kid, and, unlike Chris and Jill, she has no previous combat experience. Some first mission this turned out to be! Her pre-REmake time in the Spencer Mansion with Richard Aiken is part of the game Umbrella Chronicles and is called, appropriately, “Nightmare.” By the end of the Mansion Incident, Rebecca has really seen some shit. She’s had the longest “day” (two days and three games, actually) of any of the on-site surviving S.T.A.R.S. protagonists--let’s maybe cut her a break.
Q: Item management in this game sucks. How is it even shittier than item boxes?
A: Hm. Well, are you doing it right? The key is dropping your stuff in the right place, right? It's just a new type of path/inventory planning, but it isn't more complex or inconvenient than the old boxes of previous games. Multiple runs will probably be needed to figure out an optimum path, just like REmake. Watch some speedruns if you want great pointers on making the most of the "new" system. PROTIP: if you don’t know where to leave something, try leaving it in the entrance hall. That will probably work better than that dead end way in the back of the basement. Here’s a second tip: If you have the hookshot, you are going to need it. You have been warned. Blame yourself or God.
Q: OK, so I want to talk about the freight platform and Birkin's lab. How the hell did B&R get to the middle of Racoon City?
A: You monster.
Q: What are the technical specifics of the different versions?
A: Good question.
All versions:
- Choose between original 4:3 and 16:9 “crop and pan” screen ratios
- Choose between “classic” and “alternate” controls (like REmake HD)
- New 5.1 support
- 720p 30fps
- Current-gen consoles
- 1080p 30fps
- 60 fps
Q: What about PC requirements?

Q: Beyond the prizes for Leech Hunter and game clear costume unlocks, are there any other goodies?
A: Yes. Completing the game in a set amount of time will earn you a ranking. Unlike some other games, your rank is based solely on clear time. There are no penalties for using healing items or saving your game. The ranking and rewards are as follows:
D-Rank: 9:01 or more. Unlocks Leech Hunter minigame. Might also award a closet key, though it appears costumes are handled differently in the remaster, so maybe not.
C-Rank: 7:01-9:00. Same as D-Rank
B-Rank: 5:01-7:00. Same as D-Rank
A-Rank: 3:31-5:00. Same as D-Rank, plus Submachine Gun.
S-Rank: <3:31. Same as A-Rank, plus Infinite Rocket Launcher.
Q: Tell me about the trophy/achievement list.
A: It’s going to be a rough ride, definitely harder than the REmake plat, though experienced speedrunners might laugh their way through it. Here’s the list (contains plot points).
Q: I'm fascinated by Resident Evil stuff, and want to learn more about the lore. What do I do?
A: Start by reading the alternative translations hosted at Project Umbrella. Localization =/= strict translation, so occasionally liberties taken with localization contradict the canonical texts. These alternate translations are intended to more faithfully reflect the canon. Obviously, they contain spoilers, so use discretion if you are new to the series.
Q: Let’s have an argument about the controls!
A: Naw, seriously, let’s not. I mean, I have a preference, and I think I’m right, but nobody gives a shit. People already think what they think.

Important
Hang on to your game clear save--do not overwrite it with a Wesker mode save (or anything else) because you can lose access to Leech Hunter and any other Game Clear unlocks. These variables are not system wide so use a new slot instead!
OK, GAF. Let’s do our best!
