Where are these Resident Evil counts (9.5 million users online)coming from on re.net?

This seems like a huge amount of players. Especially when RE.net only tracks Resident Evil Remaster HD (PS3/360/XB1/PS4/PC), Resident Evil Revelations (PS3/360/WiiU/PC), Resident Evil Revelations 2 (PS3/360/XB1/PS4/PC), and Resident Evil 6 (PS3/360/PC) across all platforms (I believe Resident Evil 0 should be added soon). So that's not counting any of the other Resident Evil games that came out last gen. I know the Resident Evil series is huge for Capcom but this seems pretty nuts, even when across all platforms. Since the numbers there as you can tell are separate from RE.NET registered users, and I don't think there are almost 10 million people sitting on the website lurking. Especially when the forums aren't exactly heavy traffic like say GAF. I've been checking the site and can't find any more info on what Users Online entails.

So is Resident Evil really just this popular or are they probably just throwing random numbers up there? Such as maybe counting everyone who has been online in these games at one point or another? If that's the case seems odd to label it as "Users Online". Also the numbers haven't changed after a few refreshes so I don't know at which point they update.

I think I have two accounts because I forgot my log in info for the other one. Maybe a lot of folks like that, especially as RE6 sold something like 6 million.

It's got nothing to do with REnet users, as it says on the other side there are only 700,000 registered with it.

It is odd. Especially since I load up RE6 Mercs on the weekend and can usually only get one game or two.
Must be numbers from the Dino Crisis 4 beta test. Wait, you didn't get an invite?
You can't just shoot the OP in the heart when you enter the thread man. We have laws in this country.

We need better ones.

lol

The sequel to Dino Crisis 3 that we've always wanted.
I wish

Registered Users are separate from Users Online though.

RE still sells, I thought that was a given?
True, but 9.5 million people playing numerous RE games right now? That's some crazy player numbers to all be online right now.

I've made a couple of PSN buddies by playing co-op RE games. Most of them are in Latin America and Asia. Resident Evil is huge!

I mean, the movies have made a billion dollars already, including DVD sales lol. I'm sure the number logs people playing single player, but since they're connected to their online account, it shows up. 9.5 million across 4 games (on 6 platforms) is a realistic amount. Imagine how many people are currently playing all the Monster Hunters - or Pokemon!

Yeah the Resident Evil fanbase is pretty die-hard. I could probably go on RE5 Versus/Mercs right now on 360 and PS3 and still get more than a few players.

I dunno, thats four titles across 17 culmative platforms OP

Plus episode 1 of Rev 2 has been free a few times, coupled with its at bargain pricing currently.

And I'm not gonna lie, the RE NET platform has improved vastly over the years. I remember when their emails were plain text - it read like a GameFAQS walkthrough - but now they have graphic designers making them appealing.

I logged in to check if there would be RE0 support. So that's one person down, 9.5 million to go

Going by this page, sales for all games supported by re.net add up to something like 12m. Considering not everyone goes online and there has to be some overlapping users between games, this is indeed surprising.

Didn't they automatically convert Capcom accounts to re.net accounts or something like that?

That number hasn't changed in the last 20+ minutes...
Yeah that's why it's confusing. It's not registered users since that is separate.
I'm really curious just what those numbers are displaying, since actual online players seems very unlikely.

Yeah so the numbers seem even more off. I guess that could of happened with accounts. But I doubt 10 million people made capcom accounts. Since it's easily skippable in the supported games.

That's really impressive.

Consoles sold:
PlayStation 4 35.9 million
Xbox >10 million
Wii U 10.73 million
PlayStation 3 83.8 million
Xbox 360 84 million

9.5 million sales out of of 226~ million platforms is amazing, no matter the franchise. And how many more are hidden and not tied with RE.NET? The Wii has 5 RE titles which are not online. Plus, currently, there's almost 600,000 Steam users online as we speak.

Man, gaming is huge...

Some of you actually think that's concurrent users? Have you lost all sense of scale?

I know it isn't unless some crazy shit is going on. Would like to know what that number is referring to though. "Users Online" is vague as hell.

I am going to say that that is the amount of players online cumulative for the franchise, and not the current total. It would be by far the biggest franchise in the world if it had a concurrent number that high. I doubt League of Legends hits that on its peak days.

aha, I see. I just did some fact checking, and it seems like the numbers reflect the 4 games sold on all 17 platforms. RE6 sold 6.3 million across all platforms, while the others hover around 1 million.

That would make more sense. Though they should maybe change the wording then.
"Total players" or something.
