After much deliberation, we are unfortunately going to have delay Slain! until March 24th.
Releasing this month would not give you all the introduction to the Slain! franchise you (and the game) deserves. There's a bit of info on the site but I'll just copy and paste here.
This release date is FINAL so please stay tuned for updates and thanks for being awesome (and patient).
'Wolf Brew Games and Digerati Distribution are sad to say from their deepest, darkest metal hearts that youre going to have to wait a little longer before you can spill the blood of monsters, demons and evil lords as Bathoryn in gruesome gothic puzzle-combat platformer Slain!.
The game needs a few last tweaks because right now no mortal man or woman could possibly get past Slain!s intense platforming, traps and monstrosities. Luckily the wait isnt too long as Slain! will now launch March 24th on Steam.'

Steam only?
So console releases after that I imagine
Correct. PC version delayed. Sorry for lack of clarity.

Damn. I take it that there's game-breaking bugs that were discovered and you guys are not adding some casual-friendly easy mode.
no easy mode but we are changing some key elements to make it more playable. Play testing results came back as 'too difficult' basically.

I gotta' tell ya (I pre-ordered your game and I'm not going to cancel or anything) but that's a pretty weak excuse. Just slap a "Prepare to Die!" tag line on it and go with it. I WANT a hard game. If you really want to capture the casual crowd, patch in a baby mode later. Being challenging is a good thing. Look at:
Super Meat Boy
Volgar the Viking
1001 Spikes

Agreed. I hope it remains really challenging, same with Cuphead.
AAA is that way ----> if you want easy games.
Ehh that might be harsh
Im guessing the feedback was deeper than that
Im sure a discerning developer knows when to make that call
Those play testers should be forced to beat Ninja Gaiden 1, NES Batman, Castlevania 1, Gremlins 2 (NES), and Abadox. Then they should come back and say if Slain is too hard or not.
There's always that pre-patch boss fight where you cheese in the corner laughing as you hit them once intermittently from afar without being touched.I think this would be acceptable if the testers found that (for example) boss fights were just random or had to be tanked or something in order to be beaten. That would be a fine excuse to tweak the game.
We use some very very experienced playtesters, all with records of beating 'hard' games.
We do however want everyone to be able to see all the art, and hear all the music.
We will also be likely be releasing the game in its current state a little down the line as a possible 'Directors Cut'.
Amateur hour this is not (!) however. No one wants this game to come out more than us. But releasing something 'unplayable' due to insane level of difficulty is not something we were ever aiming to do. Believe us, it will still be difficult.

This is SO awesome, the atmosphere and the bad guy in particular are really outstanding, my absolute favorite gif of the game, the graphics evolution is really awesome, if i can make a very little nitpicking i have a problem with the water/ice sword/axe, it breaks the overall "blood-ness", everything is red so imo even the axe light should be slightly affected by it, also it's really hard for me to avoid noticing the difference in details between the ice axe and the bad guy axe every time i see that gif.
Too bad but take all the time you need, i can't wait to play it on vitaAfter much deliberation, we are unfortunately going to have delay Slain! until March 24th.

This is incredibly ridiculous now. I'm gonna wait a bit till I'm in a better mood, then consider whether I'll pull from kickstarter or not until you have your shit together.

Out of curiosity are you guys doing the console ports yourselves?
For review or as part of kickstarter pledge early access?Trust me, I've played the game. The delay will only help make this game better
WiiU update?
I put down money back when the release date was July of last year. Every time we neared the dates that were set, my excitement for the game would be crushed with each delay. As someone else in the thread said, it's a bit amateurish to keep setting a date only to delay it, over and over. Should have set a date further down the line instead of just a few months later. I know things happen and nothing is 100% predictable, but this is seriously a downer. You're being fucking ridiculous, get over yourself.

The delay is unfortunate. I was super hype. I hope it's not tuned down to easy mode.
You say something about there being a 'director's cut' down the line possibly. Why not have it as an unlockable mode or just there from the get go? Maybe use a code or something to unlock it.

I like the first look better for Lord Vroll.
