The Tomorrow Children Beta Announced

Yeah the slide puzzles for me are a deal breaker tbh

I hate sliding block puzzles generally. At least for saplings they're quite easy, but there was one that wanted 123456789 in order and I just instantly bribed my way out of that (which is way too exoensive just to build one thing)

The list already uses up time by being quite badly filtered (would be nice to sort by 'buildable' for instance). Or how about a cooldown timer, or bigger things take longer to craft?

Is there a youtube vid of the GAF town anywhere? Too late for me to join last night but I'd be curious to see ho people got on.

Edit:thanks Mik2121

Video of the last few minutes at GAF Town (I think a lot of people were offline already, but eh...)

I though it was only towns being ranked. Are people in the town being ranked as well? Where can I see that?

gotta build something called mass information board? or something like that
has both town ranking and player ranking across every town i think

Some things:

- Make a longer and more in-depth tutorial explaining the different mechanics. Lots of people didn't know what they were doing during the beta.

- Turn down the difficulty of the sliding puzzles at the workbench. Make it the same difficulty as the first puzzle you do.

Yeah, the sliding puzzle wouldn't be so bad if it weren't because you have tons of people behind you waiting and it makes you feel even worse :(
It would be neat if there were actually different kind of puzzles or something, or as someone already suggested, for the more expensive things make it so that the building time takes longer instead? I mean, you're already paying more for it, having a more difficult puzzle seems just mean! :'(

played in a city where we just couldn´t overcome an initial lack of trees in the beginning.
had no turrets so godzilla just went berserk on the town. the little amount of wood in the stockpile got used up for repairs immediately. from there we just could never get the right buildings built, probably also because people didn´t know what REALLY needs to get built asap, and that some stuff needs other stuff to be built first (police station is a requirement for turrets...). probably this´ll get better once people get more experience, but maybe sorting the buildings menu queueand putting important stuff near the top would help bit with this.
still had an awesome couple of hours (flew the jetpack to the top of the biggest bomb, view from up there was beautiful!). it´s gonna be day one for me for sure.

Some friends stopped by and wondered what I was playing there, it was the start of an interesting conversation.

yeah you are right...But there was maintenance yesterday and on Friday too
So the beta is over without playing...Good job
It was in 3 hour burst as a stress test. Each block was in a different regions primetime (7pm-ish) Japan, EU, US

I doubt the game will come out later than next month

Here was our problem....

Couldn't figure out the snub voting at the time.

Having said that, fantastic time on the town with Party Chat running. First time I've used Party Chat and we really coordinated well on what we needed. Upgrading the Town Hall was awesome. Thanks to everyone (including those not in Party Chat).

The problem with that is that many players will not know what is happening, where he is, or what to do about him.
Yep, with the whole going invisible, even if someone sees him doing some shit from far away, good luck catching him if he tries to hide for a while :/

The best way to stop grief/trolls is to make environment objects removable ONLY if your home is in that same village. I can understand maybe buying some paint and trolling someone's village to be entirely brown or pink, cosmetic is fine but actually removing objects which have cost time and resources just sucks.

The above would stop random people from just appearing and tearing stuff down, at least if your part of the "community" you wouldn't want to see anything you have worked towards just destroyed.

When I played last night we had a few monsters heading in our direction and my entire village manned the fort for the passing wave, rockets ahoy and we took all enemies down in short space of time. It was a good village a good community, it shall be missed :(

There should be a log in the town of who dismantled what in order to determine who is griefing.
There should be a voting system where a certain percentage of people has to vote for/against when moving certain buildings, or limiting it to people that has obtained X amount of points in that town or something similar.
Make it hard for some guy(s) to decide to go and trash a town when most of the frequent players aren't there.

From the feedback we've received so far, we can see that there's definitely a need for more clarification. There are a lot of systems/information sets that come into play right from the start, and while some of it is explained in text pop-ups or when interacting with the thing itself, there's a lot that isn't and the information terminal that supplements it isn't a default fixture in the town.

We'll keep improving!

Biggest understatement of the year.

I'm a patient gamer/hardcore gamer, and even i was having problems understanding all the systems. Casual players will drop this game like a hot potato.

A few thoughts,

You do get better at the sliding puzzles (or at least I did), there is a knack to solving them, whist sorting their arrangement you don't want to be placing them in their correct positions when sorting any particular row. If you try sorting them while having them in their correct positions you will end up going round in circles when trying to arrange the end of a row. (That probably makes no sense).

I wish the islands were randomly generated rather than pre-designed. I think once you learn where you need to mine for a particular material its going to loose that sense of discovery (fun) and gain predictability (not fun).

I'd like to see some rare materials added into the mix that maybe come around once in a blue moon that can be used for building extra special things for the town or perhaps used to level up buildings / give them special properties.

Is the ranking system continuous? If so, maybe allow the top 5 people to always be able to dismantle buildings and require a vote for others.

I should participate in the party chat come final release as well.

I wish we could vote a player in as mayor, and every player would have different statistics, that gives you different benefits.

what are the stat benefits for strength? i put 3 pts into it and was expecting to be able to get an extra inventory slot, or be able to carry more resources in my bag, but got nothing?

IIRC, 10 strength points = 1 slot.

I had fun with the beta even though I had no clue what I was doing most of the time, I'm sure it's the kind of thing that will work better when I have more than a few hours to figure everything out. Really hope the slide puzzles get the boot though, or at least toned down. The first one was manageable but every puzzle I attempted after that ended in failure.

Feedback-

Easy to lose track of time - Maybe a notification for 6AM/Noon etc, I assume the notification of the toil board that pops up is when the day rolls over for toil calc purposes, maybe a notification at 6 hours to go that you need to visit the labor place to be graded

Some indication as to the duration of the island/ time till next island

Aiming cone for the shotgun, displayed when L2 is held (or whatever is used to ready the RL)

Option to toggle dmg numbers/ life totals - nice to have

Stats tell you what they do but not to what degree, hard to tell how to build your clone

Coupon costs for tools felt too expensive but that's based on very limited experience

GAFTown strongly suggests some added protections needed against griefers, maybe a limit to the number of buildings a single player can deconstruct in a given time period (weighted based on value of building), perhaps disallow deconstructing the last remaining LoM, workbench, gen, other basic structure

Game was a TON of fun, loved the army of ants feel to the proceedings,

Hoping to get a slot in GAF town when this comes out. I had a lot of fun with it but after watching the stream I really wish I'd been in a more organized town. I really hope whatever adjustments need to be made or mechanics explained better doesn't take too long. I'm eager to get back in and work out some of the stuff that I couldn't in the beta, not to mention see the islands and monsters from the later parts of the game.

To anyone wondering. I do plan on doing Gaf Town again for the full release. :)

Count me in as well!

I didn't get to play much of the game (I got to play in all 3 blocks, but I only really got to play the game on my first block, the rest I played for 30mins - 1hr), but I enjoyed what I saw.

Shame with that troll in GAFtown though, I do hope there's a way to efficiently penalize trolls. Maybe we can set-up towns that are invites-only?

Anyway, I hope this game releases soon. I wonder if we can get this in 2-3 months? I get the impression that we are getting this sooner than I think.

I'd like to get in on gaf town also. I plan on becoming a serious lumberjack. It's what I did in alpha. Once any town I helped with wood caught up, they never ran out again. I will bring mountains of wood gaf, mountains!

I wasn't able to play beta for long at all for a few reasons.

Ok. I'll go ahead and add you all. I'll be advertising it in the OT when the game comes out also.

You all can go ahead and just send a friend request to either of these PSN names.

Hey everyone! GAF Town was great last night and I'm looking forward to playing with all of you in the full game!

Next time around maybe we should build some jail cells around the garbage bin, although we recovered very quickly from a few bad seeds!
