It would be really cool if at the investors meeting we would get to see the final system in the same way as the SNES was unveiled all the way back in 1988, like this:

SNESprotype3.jpg

SNESprotype2.jpg

Just the CEO and Miyamoto at a wooden table, casually showing off the new system.

Man, all this NX news is getting me feel like I'm 8 year old again :)

i would not be surprised to hear about the nx pretty soon. it's 2016 and it's not like nintendo hasn't revealed system information early in the year before: http://web.archive.org/web/20040402004236/http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/040120/206239_1.html

The really good old days. Man you get hyped just by reading the article. "The amazing Super Nintendo" The coolest thing is that it wasn't hyperbole at all, the SNES was amazing indeed! Hoping NX can have some of that...

You'll get the announcement in march, the unboxing/unveiling in June and the release 0n November 20, 2016

just speculating.

If Nintendo were to say these things, then that would be good enough for me, since i will have a date to look forward to other than E3 which is too far at the moment

The "or not" means we're getting tons of awesome info very soon because Nintendo is sympathetic to the plight of Neogaf.

They haven't actually said that. That's just a point of speculation based on what Iwata said a few years ago.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/nintendo-begins-distributing-software-kit-for-new-nx-platform-1444996588

The WSJ leak is the one that mentioned both handheld and console being different "NX" units and also seemed to talk about a single devkit distribution for entire project (which would line up with the shared library speculation, although it doesn't confirm it).

Kimishima will play Half Life 3 multiplayer with all the investors right then and there. Then he's gonna tap the Chrom amiibo and turn the map into Crossfire Emblem.

Gordon Freman amibo, HL 3 nx exclusive and GF in smash nx. Unprecedented partnership.

NX: Anything new about its coming videogame system code-named NX is unlikely at the earnings conference because Nintendo would want to focus on Miitomo first. Nintendo has declined to say when it will kick off its promotional campaign, but analysts expect more details in June and a product launch toward the year-end shopping season.

SURPRISE: Nintendo has a history of making surprise announcements at its earnings calls. It isn’t rare for Nintendo to announce new initiatives at an earnings call as it did for the partnership with theme-park operator Universal Parks & Resorts, a unit of ComcastCorp.’sCMCSA +2.96% NBCUniversal.

That would make sense, except that June seems late for a first reveal? Can they get enough momentum and interest if they only show it for the first time at E3? Maybe the combination of the first reveal plus concrete launch details will be enough?

But the Sony tactic of a February reveal and June blowout seemed to do well - why not copy that? (I just want to find out ASAP!)

I hope everyone goes into this expecting only the following because expecting anything else is a bad idea:

If theres any mention of NX tomorrow, I expect it to be brief, something along the lines of 'we have a console codenamed NX in development that we will share more information on at a later date'

There'll be nothing tomorrow anyway. Tomorrow is the earnings release, which means you'll get the documents which state how much money they made, how many things they sold, etc. The investor briefing with he presentation and Q&A is the day after, like always.

Yes tomorrow will all be about how good/bad their systems sold. I don't have a good feeling about the 3ds. Do NPD followers know how it did this US holiday?

I don't really expect any significant NX info coming from the investor meeting, but I really hope they follow the schedule that worked great for Sony and at least they announce the reveal for February-March with the full show at E3.

It's tomorrow for those of us in NA, though. Tomorrow evening. Presuming we get a live play by play as we sometimes do. 😉

Sorry if this was already confirmed, but the nx will come with the game pad that is like a portable handheld system such as the 3ds or you will buy that separetly and you can use as a gamepad? If it is 2 in 1 system, either the price will be high or the hardware will be average.

I certainly think investors will ask about the NX, seeing as it's 2016 and all. Much depends on whether Nintendo decides to head them off at the pass by announcing very basic details, or if they just fob them off.

No, that's the earnings release. That's always the thing that comes first. The presentation always comes the following day.

look here: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/schedule/index.html at past entries. And please skip over last January's briefing because the reason for the delayed briefing will remind you of sad things :(

No. It's both. Japan time is 14 hours ahead for us right now in EST.

We get the earnings release after 15:00 (3 PM) JST, or 1 AM tonight (Monday/Tuesday) in the middle of the night EST.

We get the presentation on Weds. 10:00 AM JST, or 8 PM tomorrow (Tuesday) night for EST. :)

We don't know anything about the NX beyond what's in the OP. We don't know if it will come with a GamePad, or what connectivity between the possible two systems will be, or if the NX will bake brioche with Mario's face stamped on it.

exactly zero things are known about what NX even roughly is. just a bunch of nebulous things that can and have been interpreted in various ways.

You were so sure, though. It was cute. I get confused, too.

DK is timezones. You're Kirby. I'm Luma. Alistair Roo is Luigi of course. NX is Rainbow Road. @_@

(Bowser is Spyder_Monkey. Peach is TheOnlyOneheEverFeared.)

Eh. Nintendo said itself that the repeating issue is maintaining the active use rate by having a steady flow of releases (topic 18 in OP). This is even more important if this platform is indeed hardware independent and to have a long breath. Having high sales right out of the gate won't help new third party support much; that support will either need to be there before the hardware release, or it won't be there for another one to two years to come due to development times, during which lackluster sales could quickly stop development again like the wait and see approach of plenty publishers on previous Nintendo systems have shown. NX is better off with steady and consistent sales while continuously increasing library size and variety of available compatible hardware.

The Wii U got broad support from pretty much all major publishers around the launch period. Even EA put out Madden, FIFA, Need For Speed
and Mass Effect 3
to "test the waters" before dropping the system. Ubisoft and Activision supported it for around a year with their flagship titles. For all the talk about Nintendo never getting any kind of third party support ever again, those third parties aren't stupid, and they don't want to miss out on potential revenue if a system does turn out to be successful. Even if their expectations are almost zero, they'll schedule some cheap ports for the first 6 months to a year of the system's life, and they'll either ramp production up or down depending on how well it does.

We don't know anything about the NX beyond what's in the OP. We don't know if it will come with a GamePad, or what connectivity between the possible two systems will be, or if the NX will bake brioche with Mario's face stamped on it.

I'd buy the shit out of that Super Toast.

I'd say the DS was a little unusual, because of the expected success of the PSP. Besides, Nintendo already announced the NX last year, we just haven't got any confirmation of what it is yet.

I don't expect anything more than "Our new games platform, NX, will be revealed at E3 in June this year". Investors aren't going to need to know a whole lot more. Maybe if we're insanely lucky they might confirm that there's both a handheld and a home console, but anyone who's expecting any actual info on the NX is going to be pretty disappointed.

Hmm...

$200 for 1000pcs

Nintendo's really going to have to get that NX handheld price down now that their competitors are selling handhelds for 20c a piece!

[slightymoreseriously]A thousand pieces isn't actually that big an order, maybe time for NeoGAF to make its long awaited entry into the console business?[/okaynotreallythatseriously]

NeoGAF Splorgenborg. Believe

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
probably just a defensive mechanism, but I've drop any hope for relevant news for tomorrow/day after.
At least, hopefully they will announce a Direct shortly after, to talk about incoming 3DS/Wii U games and Nintendo account/My Nintendo (considering that they should be live starting from March in the West)

Anybody got that countdown clock for the meeting in US pacific time?

Here's an updated post regarding the briefing:

Nintendo's FY 2015 Third Quarter Financial Results Briefing

Time: Feb. 3, 10.00 AM (JST) / Feb. 2, 08.00 PM (EST) / Feb. 2, 05.00 PM (PST)
Location: Hotel New Otani Tokyo (likely in the Fuyo banquet hall)

TSE operating hours are 09.00 - 15.00 (JST). I believe the earnings release will come on February 2 after the market closes.

Q1: So, Kimishima-san. Lol @ dat 900p leak. What gives.

A1: *Kimishima gestures at an obscured figure in the back row.*

Q2: Explain how dividends work, please. [...]

I really hope the name of the system will stay as Nintendo NX and not Wii Waweewu

Wii brand is over. No point in still pretending to worry about that.
