You have a story in the works, Mr. AntiHero?

Mrs.

Yes!

I have *insert one more than Mike's draft count * but I am not really counting.

It's one of those weeks where the story I had the previous week ended up being a good fit for the current theme. Bummer.

If you do I would also suggest Sumatra PDF. Another free PDF program that let's you password protect your files.

Anyone else having trouble this round?

Make me not feel so alone.

Not trouble in coming up with an idea, but rather, my time is limited until the deadline so it's going to have to be a bit rushed. Hopefully I can get it into a decent shape by then.

I have like 600 words but I don't think my story is compelling. Something is missing. I liked the idea at first but it's not sustaining my interest. Too little time to turn back I guess.

I'm just kind of going with the flow. I had an idea for what I wanted, but now that I've created the characters, the setting, and set up the scene, the story is going in a little bit different direction.

I just finished the length of my story and am going to do some final tweaks.

It is currently sitting at exactly 2500 words, I shit you not.

Me too, but I like this theme a whole bunch. So I'm getting stuck because I want to give it a concerted effort but I'm not really. I keep on thinking of religious themes, like evangelism or charity. Then I try to expand from that and think of the food industry, conspiracy theories, systems in general, "ism's" in general, and witch doctors. Then I think how I just need to pump out a story. Then I go to bed.

It's a nice, broad theme that could have so many variations. It will be interesting to see what each person comes up with.

I kinda feel bad that I've been ridiculously productive this week. I've done five drafts of this, revised ~13K in another project, and banged out another 3.5K story on the side for something else altogether.

That's quite a productive week. And I thought banging out 2.5k words in a couple days was decent.

keep bragging whydoncha

I am not in a good headspace. Not feeling great the past few days and feeling pretty discouraged about the trouble I'm having with this story. Good luck to anyone else who's stumbling.

The thing for me is that I've been struggling for the past six months. I kept doing the creative writing challenges, but I stopped submitting and working on anything outside that. I had some shit go down in my life that I thought I'd gotten over a while ago, but have only realized this past month that it was still weighing on me until some recent events changed things.

I seriously don't mean to brag, but I just haven't hit this level of creative mania in ages.

The highest I've ever had were when I completed the first year of NaNoWriMo that I tried. I was with a friend, so we encouraged each other. The second was when I had some short story writing and reading classes.

I'm trying to get myself back up to somewhere between those times. I think it's feasible to do at least one short story every two weeks.

The more I write the more it feels like it's veering away from the premise.

I'll probably have to start over with something else rather than try to force it back on track.

I don't think it's a problem if you move away from the prompt, since you can interpret it any way you choose.

I mean I feel like it's going in a direction where it doesn't really fit anymore. While I believe in a strong editorial hand, I don't want to coerce it toward a direction it doesn't want to go, either.

It's fine. It happens all the time that a story seed starts from the theme and then veers wildly off in another direction. It's possible it'll make some folks less likely to vote for it, but it's not against the rules or anything.

I have spent some time editing my story, and I figured it would be a good time to submit it. I could spend endless amounts changing minute things, but it wouldn't matter much. I had to fit it in the required word limit, so some descriptions have been truncated, but the meat of the story is there. I'll be busy all day tomorrow so today is the day.

I finish tonight or don't submit anything. After all this trouble I feel like the story is taunting me. It's an adversary that needs vanquished, or I'll be forced to live with the defeat.

1618 words, not happy with it but enough here I think a revisit could turn out well. Finishing touches now.

It's impressive to see how consistent some of you guys have been. (Tangent! Ashes! Cyan, of course.) Time to vanquish my procrastination.

i don't think i'm going to make it for this one. story just isn't working for me. i got a lot of work done on my manuscript though, so that's good i guess.

I have to start it earlier next time.

Weird topic, it's like 1/3 of a Mark Twain quote.

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."

it would be too long, i wasn't sure where i wanted to go with it, and i kind of lost the plot. but i kind of like the dialogue.

was supposed to go bad, the plane is shot down, they have to rescue the crew and extract, but some characters die, because the higher ups didn't give them all the information.
