Dying Light has DLC in development for 2016, Techland thinking about sequel

Dying Light's just-released The Following expansion won't be the only new piece of content coming to the multimillion-selling zombie game this year. Developer Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka penned an open letter to fans today, thanking them for their support and teasing the new, unannounced content.

"At the same time it is a clear sign that there is still high demand for that unique Dying Light experience. To make sure that every new or veteran player gets all the fun they deserve, we have decided to continue our support for Dying Light at least till the end of this year. We are already working on new unannounced content, so stay tuned for our future news."

He didn't provide any further details on this content. We'll bring you more news as it's announced.

In August 2015, Dying Light producer Tymon Smektala revealed that the game had sold 5 million copies, becoming a "tremendous success." He also teased that Techland has ideas for a sequel.

"We have lots of very ambitious ideas so first we need to check if these ideas are even doable with the tech that the current consoles provide," Smektala said.

I also hated Dead Island greatly and haven't even given Dying Light a passing glance because of that. Perhaps I should reconsider.

I'm all in for anything this team does going forward- Dying Light was fantastic and what I have played of The Following so far is great

Techland cookin'. It's amazing how much their quality shot up. Gunslinger and Dying Light are some of the freshest games I've played in a while.

added the quote about consoles from the article into the OP. considering techland's phenomenal support for dying light on pc i wouldn't be surprised to see even more love from them in terms of DLC/new games... but i wonder how lofty their goals are if the ps4/xbone aren't going to be able to run it well? obviously not gonna happen.

alright, so
imagine dead island did everything right instead of wrong
that's dying light

I thought they said something along the lines of not being able to make a sequel because it would be too technically advanced... Have I got the right company?

I don't really like parkour gameplay, it puts me off from the original game, but I do like zombies and supporting companies that support their games like this.

They could just make the sequel a PC exclusive.

Hell, if XCOM 2 can do it then why not this game?

Yes I realize XCOM is much more suited for PCs than consoles but still.

Honestly I've always enjoyed Techlands games, at least in the majority. Call Of Juarez Bound In Bound, Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, Call Of Juarez Gunslinger and Dying Light are all games I greatly enjoy.

I also like Dead Island just as much as Dying Light and I'd even say it's not that similar to Dying Light in gameplay mostly due to the way I played it with the analogue controls (of course its quests, picking up stuff from the environment felt very similar). Properly timing swings, going for specific limbs etc is something I greatly enjoy and getting that arm break where you completely neutralise a big heavy enemy was always a joy. It felt like it had a greater physicality to it and I loved it because of that. Of course this wouldn't work with Dying Light and how fast paced it is and with its parkour system. But I definitely enjoy them for different reasons. Looking forward to more support for Dying Light, it's an amazing and The Following has been excellent so far as well. They seem genuinely thankful to their fans and come across quite well IMO.

The only game of theirs I thought was a complete shitpile was Call Of Juarez The Cartel, fuck only knows what happened with that game.

Awesome news. This was one of my favorite games of 2015, and it had an awesome soundtrack as well.

Dying Light - Soldiers

Drink some water and bust some knee caps in 2016!

Oh man, that's quite good... is the rest of the soundtrack like this?

Edit - After listening to some more on YT, this soundtrack is great Reminds me of Day of the Dead in some aspects. I LOVE 80's synth soundtracks. The main menu theme in particular is fantastic.

Cool

Now fix the broken difficulty and give us a CA toggle.

I've been reading about this but haven't found the difficulty broken so far whilst playing The Following. Is it only on Hard and above difficulties ? Me and my coop buddy havent really had any issues so far.

Played Dead Island a couple years back.. the concept was nice, but the game itself felt bland.

Dying Light is everything opposite of that. Feels like Mirrors Edge + The Walking Dead: open world RPG edition.

Just bought the enhanced edition (my first time playing) with my girlfriend and we're having a blast.

What difficulty change are we talking about? I played on normal when the game released and am currently re-playing it on hard. Nightmare seemed a bit TOO daunting for me though.

Yeah Dead Island was bad. Isn't there a sequel tho?

That being said Dying Light was def a sleeper hit for me as well.

Yeah, Dead Island 2 was in development by the team behind Spec Ops: The Line.

They stopped development and I believe the publisher has a different developer working on it, not entirely sure.

The trailers made it look not fun though, like a First Person Dead Rising only without the creativity.

Chopping heads off is much much harder. With weapons that were able to take the head off with one hit before the patch. So now you keep hitting the zombies and pretty much nothing is happening while your weapon keeps degrading (and it seems to degrade faster now!?).
Zombies sometimes spawn right behind you. Virals keep spawning even if you stand still and do nothing.
Oh and that's on normal.

They took a game that wasn't like Dead Island and turned it into something that is more like Dead Island..

Oh shit, you're right. I use blunt weapons primarily and I remember hits to the head being a hell of a lot more effective. And I thought the weapons degraded faster but I just chocked it up to not having that upgrade that reduces it.

Can't say I've noticed the zombie spawn thing though. Mainly just spamming the survivor sense thing at night and trying to keep my distance.

The new difficulty is great, on Hard and Nightmare.

They should have left it as it was on Normal. However, I relish the challenge, so for me it's no issue and the new updates push it from 9/10 to 9.5/10. I love how hard it is, now.

Those changes have definitely happened (though I personally like them) but I think you're far off the mark with this statement. Dying Light is still nothing like Dead Island at all, even after patch. The differences went far deeper than this.

Owe it to yourself to play DL

Dead Island: 5/10

Dying Light: 9/10

Dying light is such an awesome game and techland has done an amazing job with the support....... Except when they patched the machete glitch 😭😭

I still have the game and and have to finish it but would love friends to play with :(

This is great news! More people need to play it, most underrated game of last year in my opinion.

If they do an expansion this year, and perhaps another game in the future, take my money!! :-D

What was the machete glitch?

I still haven't started The Following.

Got Dying Light around launch last year along with the season pass and played it some but shelved it quickly to get back to Destiny.

With the expansion dropping, my friends and I have been playing through the main campaign and doing side quests and I am super impressed with this title.

It starts off slow and admittedly it's a bit of a slog, but it's a fully realized and detailed world (haven't made it to the second town yet). The narrative is shit but the gameplay loop is top notch. Looking forward to what other plans Techland has for Dying Light.

If they don't fix the current DLC's balance, I'm probably never buying another game from them. And I was gung ho for them even two weeks ago.

I played the deMO and absolutely hated it. They mapped jump to R1 and there was no way to remap anything. I'm all for playing games the way the devs want you to, but it was just incredibly unwieldy.

Hopefully they release an easy mode.

Normal mode in old town now and free running is near impossible for long stretches like it used to be. The viral zombies everywhere now make basic gameplay mechanics am arduous chore.

I gave up trying to pick most locks because even when I use camouflage some of the virals ignore it.

I was looking at numbers during a conversation regarding Street Fighter V's dominance as the "majority" of the fighting community, and how Smash sells a metric fuckton (12 Million shipped on Wii U and 3DS) despite being the "minority" of the fighting community.

Dying Light sold 5 million?! That is more than Smash on Wii U (exluding 3DS sales.) It's wild that a game I have never heard about outside of my computer screen is surpassing one of the most beloved series.

Really casts Nintendo in a "dying light." Eh? Ehhhhhhhhh?

how is it incredibly unwieldy? having it on a face button means you have to take your right thumb off the analog stick, which is a shitty idea for a parkour game

Awesome, I picked it up the other week before the expansion came out, I was really skeptical but I got it for a decent price, it's a great game. The OST is class, really reminds me of Day of the Dead

See, I slide my thumb off the analog stick for a quick sec and and then put it back. I also normally jerk the analog stick quite a bit. Pretty hard to keep it steady.
