Nintendo sent out this press release today about the re-opening of Nintendo NY store (formerly Nintendo World) in Rockefeller Plaza tomorrow, February 19, and I thought it could be a good opportunity to post a reminder. The release mainly concerns an exclusive tour before the store opens to the public, but there's general info too:

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo:

WHAT:

Mario himself invites you to an exclusive tour of the remodeled Nintendo NY store in Rockefeller Plaza, as well as a private ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new space. On Feb. 19, the Nintendo NY store is scheduled to open its doors with a new look and a new feel. The powered-up overhaul will include an updated interior design, new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS demo units, a 15-foot gaming screen and more fun elements and surprises. In addition, a large bronze coin installed at the store entrance will display the store’s tagline: “Where everyone comes to play.”

The store is scheduled to open to the public at noon on Feb. 19, but by attending this exclusive event, you can get an early sneak peek of the new space from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

After Mario invites you inside the store, the Mushroom Kingdom star will be available for photos (and maybe the occasional hug or two). Once the tour begins, you’ll also have the opportunity to interview Nintendo executives and staff of the Nintendo NY store.

When the store opens to the public at noon, there will be a series of activities, including giveaways, like exclusive Splatoon art created by the developers of the hit game (while supplies last), and appearances by costumed characters like Mario and Luigi. The store will also sell exclusive souvenirs that can only be purchased that weekend, including a limited-edition T-shirt featuring Mario or Link. Fans who want to try out some of Nintendo’s latest games are in luck, as new and upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games will be available to play.

If interested in attending the early media event from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., RSVP to one of the contacts listed below. (Check the link)

Can't wait to see how big the line will be, only to find out that only the first 11 people are getting a Fire Emblem SE.

Oh cool. I'm looking forward what they will have. I really want to go there this year for new zelda launch and NX.

I'd love to go there but my weekend is riddled with other things I have to do... Building in 10 hours of driving round-trip isn't gonna happen. :(

I've been there multiple times. It's nothing special, but as a Nintendo fan you have to like it. I remember taking my family in there as we were at Rockefeller Plaza anyway and all of them laughing at the Wii U. And they had loved the Wii.

Knew it was doomed from the start :(

This was the only touristy thing I did when I visited NYC. My then current boyfriend kept laughing at me as I debated whether to buy a Shy Bones plushie or not... :S

Lol I remember one time I was in the city and was more obsessed with finding this store and getting a memory card for my gamecube so I could finally save progress in RE4 than going to see the Knicks play
(lose)
.

Store was amazing to little me, might take the train and go see the opening if it's not too cold.

Yeah, it's nothing special but anytime I go to the city, I have to go visit.

Nice spot for the family.

I was there a month or two (don't exactly remember) before Wii U launched. Cool place. Lots of people on the bottom floor checking stuff out, but on the top floor where all the Wii U demo stations were I was all alone. I didn't even know beforehand they'd have it there, so I was pretty excited. No one else there seemed to be, though, lol.

I'll be there, planning on picking up the two launch shirts:

And whatever else new that strikes my fancy!

Are they going to have those shirts all weekend or just on Friday? I've got work tomorrow, but was planning on hoping an early morning train up to the city to nab me one of these Saturday.

Really? Every time I've visited the place, it's always pretty busy. Most times nearly all the Wii/Wii U stations are all being used. It's a cool little place and I love checking out the museum setup as it always changes. I took a bunch of shots with the 3DS shortly after launch.

Also the Wii launch was cool. Stopped by late, but got to see the Regginator on stage.

bought my DS Lite at Nintendo World. I thought it was pretty impressive when I was there the first time but I feel like it gradually got more sparse as the years went on. I'd check out this new version, though, for sure.

With both press and Nintendo executives being present, it's more or less guaranteed someone will ask a question about NX.

Oh god I want this so bad. Hoping the (certain) army of people flipping these on eBay aren't asking too much.

Holy shit, they have tons of coverplates including the Boo ones. Someone pick me up one!

edit: seriously though, if you happen to be there I would totally love if you could pick me up a set :)

You get a coin if you buy the launch shirts?

Yeah, they were showing a Mario coin and a Link coin. I tried to reach them on twitter to confirm they'll have this available still on Saturday and not just Friday.

I do believe they said they were going to have special Splatoon art pieces for each day or something as well. I'm looking to make my way up there tomorrow morning.

I really need 3 of those faceplates, if anyone is going?

A bunch of the faceplates are on their website. Though I don't see a couple of them on there, like the Boo plate.

If I had the extra cash, I would buy a couple for people on here, so I'll see what I've got after the shirts and whatnot. Only want the exclusive items as I can make a trip up there any other weekend. But still need to make sure I've got money to go out drinking.

Dammit they couldn't do this on a Saturday? I guess I'll roll by tomorrow regardless.

I thought from a previous post when they were doing construction, they were going to hold the event all weekend. At least with the t-shirts and what have you. Just hoping they still have them tomorrow.
