What we know so far about the Nintendo NX with sources

My source informed me that it was ok to reveal that they are an Employee that works for Nintendo of America’s Marketing. This is safe to reveal since Nintendo of America is made up of mostly either marketing or corporate positions.

Nintendo as a company is designed in a way that nobody knows the entire picture of what Nintendo is working besides the few people in upper positions, so any leaker that says they have a Nintendo "source" and seems to be saying everything Nintendo fans want to hear should be a dead giveaway as fake. The people in a position to know NX details are not automatically going to know about different games in development (Strong NDA?), developers really are the only ones that know what they are making, and Nintendo marketing only works with a few projects at a time with marketing budgets usually refer to codenames to keep projects secret.

The proof shown to me was an internal US marketing budget and scheduling overview for 2016 focusing on Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo NX Launch games for 2016 besides Zelda NX and marketing focus remain hidden for now
Wii U $34.5 million marketing budget for 2016 total – Zelda Wii U has $10 million with the possibility of the funding being switched to Zelda NX version depending on launch timing in 2016.
3DS $56.25 million marketing budget for 2016 total

3DS release list 2016:
Spring-Early Summer
Mario and Sonic Rio 2016
Nintendo Selects Wave 1
Hyrule Warriors Legends
Disney Art Academy
Bravely Second
Code Name: “Caviar F” (casual friendly smaller budget game)
Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Summer
Code name: “Torte City” big budget unannounced game for all gamers core/all ages
Dragon Quest VII
Code name: “Cadillac” (casual friendly smaller budget game late summer)

Fall-Holiday
3DS Hardware Price Cut
Code name: “N-Stars” big budget game for all ages
Nintendo Selects Wave 2
Code name: “DMW2” possibly Disney Magical World 2
Dragon Quest VIII
Pokémon 20th Anniversary game “Niji” Japanese translation: “Rainbow”

Just to be clear, the only evidence you have is a marketing budget and a release list? In terms of verification that is. Because I mean, people can just make that crap up. You need actual verification that said person is a employee at Nintendo. That means that yes, you probably will know exactly who it is and cna confirm through linked in and other channels that they work at Nintendo - plus they would need to provide evidence that they are who they say they are.

If all they did was give you some papers that have a budget and game listing - how can you know that's not made up? Do you know how many "fake e3 game" listing crop up every year? It's happened so often that folks made a generator for it.

I am not saying you're wrong, but I mean... neither of those things confirm they work at Nintendo unless you can confirm the authenticity of the documents, and the only people that can do that work inside Nintendo - UNLESS he also in addition provided more stuff that showed who exactly he is and not just him saying he is someone, but proving it via staff profiles, public listings, and probably a picture of themselves holding up a drivers license, etc.

Like, I want to believe you but please tell me that's not all the verification you have. I can easily falsify such documents right now.

Pokémon Rainbow?

pfff.
Add to that the "innocent until proven guilty" stance that we should have. If he's a fake then he's a very good one.
This is utter nonsense, by the by. This is a gaming forum, not a court of law- if one wants to be sceptical about all of this (and there's ample reason to be so at the minute), then the burden of proof is on the leaker, not just to be assumed.

This is probably thread worthy.

As others have said, it's from 2013 and was obviously proven false, as none of this happened. Not sure why people make rumors like this.

Speaking of which, Trevelyan9999, don't let us down! I hope you've taken the proper precautions to not be tricked by anyone.

I know this will sound weird, but is it possible that they use "Pokemon Rainbow" as a marketing codename for most Pokemon games?

Honestly, I don't think is a bad idea, since the games are classically based on around colors and the code name would be a generic way of hiding what they were doing. That said, it's clear the rumor in that GameSpot/GoNintendo article was fabricated, since the "leaked" Pokémon do not exist, so don't use that as the basis.

I think we should hold out for that validity check. Zelda NX releasing in 2016 was seeming likely and it would be amazing to have full on confirmation of that. But this Pokemon Rainbow thing having already been brought up three years ago as false makes this seem rather dubious. A shame, too, as that was the most interesting title on there for me.

No, they would use different codenames for different games. The weird thing is that usually codenames are used for internal development, not marketing.

Ok. Go ahead and shoot down every rumor senseless to please your negativity, regardless the messenger is trying hard to prove legitimacy.

There's a BIG difference between being sceptical, and giving someone the benefit of the doubt, and just plain shitting on him/her senseless.

That Pokemon codename is intriguing. I don't think for a second that they'd actually make the compilation game that immediately comes to mind when you hear Pokemon Rainbow (even just two regions in a single game was pushing it, Pokemon's level cap is simply too low to support a game that big), but this could mean that Z will be an even more unconventional third version than I was expecting.

When it came to the "PS4 developer" rumor he said he had detailed info on the dev's identity, so he probably has more than just a document from this Nintendo person.

Pokémon Rainbow has been has been a very obvious signifier of a fake leak for years and years. Its presence here sounds VERY big alarm bells for me.

What if Nintendo decided to use it as a code name for this very purpose? I'm only being half serious here, but I've seen some creative uses of code names in the past. I remember that Harmonix used "Rock Band: Nickelback" as the code name for their Rock Band Network service in order to deflect any suspicion that it was something interesting.

Hahaha, that is the best thing I've ever read! I vote we use "Project Nickleback" as the code name for all future top secret news. It's the only way to fool the Ninjas.

Isn't the whole point of codenames to keep things secret? Then why would the codename leave a hint towards the real name of the project? I thought codenames were random.

Not so much random as completely arbitrary. Sometimes they hint at things (i.e. "Project Reality" and "Revolution"), sometimes they are utter nonsense, and sometimes they actively obfuscate the true nature of the thing (like that "Rock Band: Nickelback" example above). It really depends on the reasoning and motive behind their creation. Often codenames exist just to give something a name to refer to it by.

Sometimes the code names or project names are a bit more on-the-nose than you think. Though I might be missing a distinction between code names and project names.

In practice, there's often little distinction between code names and project names. The difference is more in the connotations.

I didn't even realize Trev is posting all his "leaks" to his own website and twitter. This is definitely fake now. Before every Nintendo hardware reveal, some random small time website comes out of nowhere with "insider info." I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong but this is pure fanboy fantasy stoking bs.

If Zelda cross gen and 2016 NX release is considered fantastical nowadays, we're in dark times indeed.

Nintendo Cross Pocket

Nintendo Cross Home

Nintendo Cross Purposes

Nintendo Cross to bear.

What are we doing again?

I just mean how detailed the leaks are, especially the budget and release schedule, that it's all coming from one source in NoA, and all for a small nintendo fan website. That's fantasy right there.

Well he's trying to get the gaf mods to verify his stuff. Don't see why he'd bother with that if he was just trying to drum up attention. We'll see.

As opposed to a big gaming site? There's a reason IGN basically gets no scoops any more. Why leak information to a big website which is more likely to out you if Nintendo threatens them that they will take away early review privileges, preview event opportunities and more? You're more safe with a smaller channel with no connections to the industry who has little reason to out you IMO.

Possibly. We'll know soon enough.

Hardly worth making up though is it? I mean if you're going to make up rumours, budgets and obvious news aren't really worth lying about imo.

Well, I haven't, but I might start doing so now. Thanks for the sanction!

There's a BIG difference between being sceptical, and giving someone the benefit of the doubt, and just plain shitting on him/her senseless.

With this latest batch of information, we've gone from an unlikely story resulting in plausible information to an unlikely story resulting in unlikely information. I haven't seen anyone shitting on the guy, just questioning and skepticism.

I have, however, seen someone call for others to be banned for no adequately explained reason. That seems like a little bigger faux pas, for my money.

Possibly. We'll know soon enough.

Hardly worth making up though is it? I mean if you're going to make up rumours, budgets and obvious news aren't really worth lying about imo.

How many people have looked at his website who otherwise wouldn't have as a result of these rumours, obvious or otherwise?

It speaks his credibility that he trying to get his source officially verified by the mods here.
