SNK Playmore Announces the Opening of SNK Entertainment

Let's hope they put out lots of games and are successful.

Time for SNK to siphon talents back from Capcom. :p

A lot of the KoF XIV devs were previously working on SF games at Dimps for Capcom - before that they were at SNK working on the Fatal Fury series.

And it is time for a Windjammers HD Remake with online!

Windjammers is by Data East, SNKP aren't the IP holders.

Telltale's fatal fury adventure game
With the og japanese coice actors
Tou get to see the plot from both geese and terry's povs

I like the prospect, but for that I suspect they need to have a English version of the SNK Entertainment site up first - this Asia focus is understandable, but frustrating to deal with at times, since they have a lot of fans outside that continent that have no way to show financial support other to buy the games on the rare occasions they're released, or spend money on the mobile games.

Wonder if people realize there was an SNK dating sim on the DS.
Three of 'em, in fact.

There were actually multiple for mobile, the DS happened to get a compilation of the 3 1st ones.

BTW, I managed to find a link for Nakoruru's page in the site of that Tencent King of Glory MOBA: http://pvp.qq.com/web201510/hero-mod/162.shtml

Well tbf KoF is huge in China. One of the streams I catched had more spectators on site than evo. So it's not too surprising a Chinese company bought them.

Yeah, I followed Xiao Hai during the KofXIII era, but had no idea it was this huge in China.
Yeah it's probably because of the language barrier and other things that prevented outisiders to catch that. They have their own streaming service and I think it was last year or so they were streaming a kof tournament. It was freaking huge.

Yeah even the mobile KOF game they released there recently was a friggin huge hit.

From Dreamcancel:

After a series of beta tests, the mobile game “The King of Fighters ’98 OL” was finally launched in Asia. The official launch was a huge success, as the mobile app jumped to the top to rank at #1 in the app store for China and Taiwan, and #2 in Hong Kong.

The King of Fighters ’98 OL is a collaboration between SNK Playmore and China’s Ourpalm, Tencent, and Playcrab. The game is available for the iOS and Android platforms.

To celebrate the success of the official launch, the developers behind KOF 98 OL recently took a trip to visit SNK’s headquarters in Osaka. They had a chance to sit down and briefly interview KOF 14’s producer Yasuyuki Oda.

According to an estimate by CNG, KOF 98 online generated 283 million RMB ($43.2 million USD) in November. This puts the KOF mobile game at #5 in gross revenue.

KOF 98 online launched earlier this year with much success, as the mobile game secured top spots in the App stores in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. A Korean version of the game was also recently launched.

First their biggest IPs need to sell. Maybe then they can grow staff again. It does sound like they have financial back up this time but they still need to justify that, right?

What streams of KOF are there in China? Can you point them out?

Are you aware of any youtube channels that feature higher level KoF from the Chinese scene? Preferably 98UM or 2002? Im aware of ones from Japan and South America.

As far as I know, the Chinese scene actually plays KOF97 as its preferred game, so it would probably be easier to find footage of that.

YouTube is blocked in China, so I don't think they upload there or niconico. Sorry I don't know if there's any channel for high level china kof. Again one of the reasons why people aren't aware of this. Xiaohai streams on douyu. But probably a bit more SFV right now.

I'm on mobile so maybe someone else has more infos or someone on mmcafe or dreamcancel.

it sounds like this is what their new investors want them to become.

1. Create new movies based on IP's in house
2. License and Outsource development for other titles
3. License the creation of toys and action figures

If everything pans out correctly... especially if SNK Entertainment starts to publish their own titles. I can see SNK re-emerging as a Japanese powerhouse again.

What is The King of Fighters 98 OL??

Is it a proper fighting game or some spin off like Metal Slug Defence?

Did it come out on iOS?

Excellent news for SNK fans. The more concerted their efforts, the better things should be.

Revive that franchise and make one with bara characters so i can have my dream date wit chang koehan

...I like the way you think.

Tizoc: "Now, tell me...would prefer you me as a good boy..."

*quick mask change*

KoD: "...or as a bad boy~?"

I don't get the question, snk well alive and well in the 90's so they didn't need the help of another company.

Still it looks like the future is S.N.K!

One can hope, and this time it'll be snk reaping all the profits.

Yeah, at this rate it's likely to be more of an SNK vs Capcom sequel rather than a Capcom vs SNK sequel, but I've said before that I wouldn't mind seeing a Dimps/Capcom developed CvS3

Most of the talent left at the time heading into 00's. IMO the company has never been the same since. That's why it would've been better if it happened back then. I was a huge SNK fan growing up in the 90's.

SNK was struggling in the late 90's.

Well, the good news is a some of that old talent has come back for KOFXIV. A lot of those who re-enlisted are basically old guard who worked on the Fatal Fury series.

Hell, XIV itself is being directed by Yasuyuki Oda, who was the battle planner/designer of MOTW.

Snk is back in the bizz! Hopefully the anime and other things work out for them. I can see a last blade anime being very good with some good budget behind it. I'm ready for the games and I'm ready for KOF14
to not sell well sadly :(
It won't
in the US
. KOF generally sells better in othe markets. Soccer (football) vs American football could be a good comparison.
