Paramount drops The Little Prince one week before release?

I saw it while out of the country and it was absolutely amazing! It is truly a wonderfully crafted experience. It's sad more people won't be able to experience it.

Sorry if somebody already posted, I couldn't find it.

What in the world?? I just saw amazing trailers and promotions for this, it's been getting good early reviews, and now it's being dumped right before? Is there any precedent of films getting dumped unceremoniously like this right before release?

Alex Winter's Freaked was sabotaged by Fox and only opened in a couple of theaters. It happens. Some people are rat bastards

Actually, maybe it is due to Zootopia. Still, I'm very curious what their response is going to be. By all accounts, this looked great, and it's pretty damn strange to be dropping a film you've been pushing (I saw tons of promotions when I saw Zootopia last week) like wild.

This isn't out yet?

I've had this movie at my work place for months now (airplane entertainment)

It's a pretty fun movie

What??? So this means it isn't releasing next week? This is my favorite book and I was so damn excited for it since it looks and sounds like a very good adaption.

On rottentomatoes.com it was sitting at 93% with 29 reviews so far.

I thought it looked great, at least from the styles I saw in the ad. The approach to adapt it to be about someone who is reading the book is brilliant.

Mostly shocking to drop a big production like this one week before release!

The hell?! Loved the book since I was little and I've been looking forward to seeing this. Now Paramount decides to pull this just before it comes out?

Ridiculous...

Viacom/Paramount is in struggle mode (bleeding money, leadership transition, trying to sell off a huge part of the studio, declining ratings for MTV/etc). I suppose dropping is better than bombing for their investment credit rating and other such plans?

Sucks to see a project get torpedoed

Americans are so tone deaf to the art of animation that it's depressing. They are for your children and only take them if it's Pixar or DreamWorks.

My coworker laughed when I said I was going to watch Zootopia this weekend. He says he's a grown up and doesn't watch that stuff. I don't understand some people

Big Trouble had a bomb on an airplane scene and was going to release right after 9/11. I think it got dumped in a small release the following April or something.

If you Google the film, it says it's a 2015 release and grossed $88.4 million but then lists the release date as 3/18... Huh? I guess that's the international gross?

Big Trouble was delayed, but still released by the same studio. It opened in just shy of 2000 theaters, although the studio mostly washed their hands of it and didn't reinvest much in marketing or anything.

If Paramount is really straight up dropping the film entirely from its distribution plans at this late date, I think that's pretty damned rare.

that's some bizarre stuff, it's been out in Canada for a month, odd that it didn't come out in the states at the same time

Kind of weird with Paramount being co-producer and with the movie being made for the American market with its all star voice acting cast.

Sad, I was really looking forward to seeing it. It'd be dope if Gkids picked this up, seems right up their alley.

So weird that this wasn't out in the US yet. I watched it back in August here in Brazil.

It's neat.

Strange. I had forgotten this was coming out. I wanted to see this. The animation style looked interesting and heard it was pretty good.

This is insane. Never heard of this happening before, especially so close to release. I remember seeing a trailer for this movie in theatres. I wasn't particularly interested, but I tend to see most animated movies in theatres regardless

I saw it and it was awesome. If you've read the book, specially as a child, it will e a great experience and will surely make you cry. A beautiful movie with a good message too

Probably the best selling book behind the lord of the rings. It's a cool children's book. I watched an animated tv show based on it, as a kid. Had no idea a movie was being made.

I remember reading The Little Prince for high school French class. It brought me to tears.

It also served as an influence on Super Mario Galaxy.

The lack of reporting from Deadline or Variety makes me think that something might not be right with the IGN report. For a studio like Paramount to pullout a week before release is somewhat unheard of. Deadline and Variety would be reporting on it.

Maybe it's playing only in French Canada? Only seen "Coming Soon" ads for it over here in the prairies, with no theatres playing it near me.

Correct, it only opened in Quebec.

However, it started rolling out to other provinces this weekend. It just opened in Toronto, at least.
