Crypt of the Necrodancer is Terrible on PSN

It's not surprising that I've not really seen complaints about this game as it seems like not many people play this game outside of PC.

First off, it seems almost every day since I've purchased this, that the game will randomly crash on me. I've deleted it and reinstalled the game at least 7 times. Nothing has helped. The game runs fine on PS4 apart from the crashes which make deathless mode impossible for me.

The Vita version has no crashing issues, but it does have significant slow down and frame drops in Zones 3 and 4. I'm guessing this happens because of the amount of things moving in the levels, but this is unacceptable when playing a rhythm game.

I love this game to death, but I've been telling people to not purchase it because of these glaring problems.

"Well the first six times this had no affect at all, but I reckon reinstalling a seventh time might just do the trick."

Was it made using Unity?

As funny as this may be, Unity is not to be blamed in any case. Unity is an engine that helps create cheap games at ease. The downside of that is that every non-programmer can make a game in Unity and write a garbage code without caring for optimization. It's the same with every game that is not optimized, however Unity gives the developers a "good enough for the time and money" illusion that some can get comfortable with.

I can actually make a game in Unity, and I am not a programmer in any means. My games will run like shit because I don't know optimization and will just use shit scripts or assets. My game will release on PS4 if I plan to. That won't make Unity bad, that'll just make the game publishing process bad, where games are "good enough" to release. It's the quality control that's bad.

Blame the creator, not the engine. Every engine can produce a garbage game. Unity just makes it easier with the quick porting.

I have played this game a ton and I haven't run into many problems. Nuclear Throne on Ps4 on the other hand.... I can't believe that game still hasn't been patched since launch.

Hasn't ever crashed on me on PS4, and I feel like I've played a ton.

My only gripe with it so far is the game doesn't auto-pause if your controller battery dies, or if you lose connection to PSN. You'll just get a notification that either has happened without the game pausing.

After taking a look at psnprofiles I'm not surprised that my experience is seeming extremely isolated. Only about 200 people have completed zone 4, and only about 100 have completed all zones with just Cadence. I realize that these numbers exclude a lot of people that might have the game and aren't registered on psnprofiles, but those numbers mean most won't even encounter the later part of the game.

I've been stuck at zone 4 for a bit. It's kind of funny that l'm not good enough for issues to pop up lol. Sorry to hear about the problems though.

I was interested in the game, but the lack of a demo killed my interest.

it's really good.

I've had no problems.

Ah, that explains it.

I have had zero issues with the PS4 version.

Multiple attempts in zone 4.. Haven't notice anything.. But yeah not a lot of people are messing around in those later areas.

So you're willing to claim a port is "terrible" because of an isolated, intermittent problem that 99% of players will never see?

99% of those people aren't even able to complete the game once. So yes it is terrible if you can't even play the game just because you're "too good".

With all due respect, do you even know what your argument is? The game performs poorly because....the players aren't good at it? What?

I think you're the dense one here.

Argument by OP:
Game runs bad in Zone 3 and Zone 4. Most people don't arrive nor finish Zone 3 or Zone 4.

Testimony by the people that don't play in those zones because they aren't good enough does not disprove the claim that Zone 3 or Zone 4 run poorly.

I think we've found next month's PS+ game.

I've beaten it on PS4 and Vita -- never seen this issue. Be that as it may, it's not really germane to say that a port is "terrible" when the issue at hand is an issue the vast majority of players won't see -- especially in the endurance runs he's talking about.

Wow, I just started up the game to test whether my crashes were exclusive to Cadence and my save data was corrupted too.

Never had a problem with it...weird.

Same - I've probably put a good 10-15 hours into it so far, even played co-op and no crashes or bugs at all. One of my favorite PSN releases ever, actually.

EDIT: Also just to add to the data set, I've unlocked all zones and have tried the all zone run with Cadence a few times with no crashes.

Can't say how long I've played the game right now, but I did make it to the Necrodancer once so far on PS4 and I don't believe I had more than one crash to date. I'm not certain what the deathless run is, but I've also reached Zone 4 on the All Zones mode a few times.

I've talked and tried to help RoeBear with his issue with this game. As he's said, reinstalled the game but has also rebuilt the database. Not sure what else can be done so obviously he's frustrated.

I'm absolutely with you and having different testimonies posted by players of the port is only good to have a more complete picture.

It would be unfortunate if these seemingly isolated problems, no matter how frustrating they are for the individual, would dissuade potential buyers.

Deathless is when you run through the game multiple times. Everything resets on a win. The game tracks how many times you've completed it in a row.
