go ahead and shoot a price out if this thing is supposed to be as strong as a 970+ PC
Legit 4K gaming on a current-gen APU is kinda a ridiculous assertion, no?

Hardware refresh every 5(6-7) years. It's not a matter of opinion really.
I'm sorry and excuse the language, but 4k gaming is not something me, or you or even Sony would consider as .5 upgrade to their system. We are talking around Titan Gpu performance wise.
So, I call bullshit on this. Sorry.

2016 is not happening.
1. AMD Zen chips haven't launched yet.
2. The first 14 NM card's havent shipped
3. HBM is still in its infancy, with Fury X suffering a 4 GB cap.
4. Launching Q4 2016 would put PSVR in direct competition with PS4.5.
5. It's MARCH, and we've yet to hear a single announcement.
6. Developers are JUST now hearing about it. Sounds like devkits haven't even SHIPPED.
Conclusion? 2017/8 sounds realistic. More 4K televisions will be in consumer hands, 14nm GPUs will have ironed out any superlative yield issues, and enough PSVR headsets will have sold to consumers to start speaking about new hardware.
So this could be last leak from Kotaku. Hulk Hogan just won lawsuit against Gawker and they owe him 115M. Welp.

oh please nobody on GAF actually plays video games that's just an urban legend
So what do we have for E3 so far
Sony: PS4.5
Microsoft: Integrated PC/Xbone ecosystem featuring erotic show girls
Nintendo: NX Rear view mirror
this has been an interesting week for video games, and most of it has nothing to do with actual video games, just platforms lol
What happened? So this could be last leak from Kotaku. Hulk Hogan just won lawsuit against Gawker and they owe him 115M. Welp.
wrong
ahahahahahahahahaha....ahah
OK so let me get this straight:
1. This is a major upgrade in performance
2. This is launching Q4' 2016
3. This will have backwards and forward compatibility.
4. This will render PS4 quality games 4K.
Can you explain what sort of tech is under the hood because it makes absolutely no sense that thing can do 4K 30 with modern AAA Games when GPU's at twice and three times the thermal power of the ENTIRE PS4 can't seem to do that.
What happened?
You really don't think journey or games of similar pedigree wouldn't be possible?
Releasing a new phone on a regular basis is in a completely different ballpark to a new console. If we are expected to trade in our consoles on a semi-regular basis there are other considerations such as savegames, hdd data, peripherals, etc
Moving to a new phone these days is a fairly seamless process.
The big question here is will I be able to transfer my P.T. to the PS4.5's HDD ?
Why would they be? Same system but with better specs, if they want to they can pretty up their games for the upgraded hardware or just not and it will still benefit frame rate wise. Upgrades every 4 to 5 years instead of generational resets every 5-7 is actually what devs want.Wtf this is stupid. Devs will surely be pissed off.

Sounds kind of anti-consumer. Hypothetically, it would push the consumer to buy new iterations in order to play the newest games, that, potentially, are built and optimized for the stronger hardware in mind.
Seems like they want to do something similiar to Apple's Iphone revisions.

The main issue I have, is that me being in broadcast and knowing what's only available for 4k, is that there is still hardly anything out content wise. Only a couple of movies and shows on netflix. ANd it takes a long time for broadcast. We still have 3 years or so until we start upgrading our station and transmitter.
So it makes no sense just to say he we have 4k for Sony/MS. When there is shit for content out. There are only a handful of blurays from 2014 and on that support 4k.
Which is why tv's are so cheap. Same thing happend for 3D tv's prices dropped like a rock after first second year, because of tech and because of no content to support it. That and it was a fade. 4k though is an actual format change, and that shit takes lots of time for companies to get content out.
Makes more sense to finish this generation, and have your next console be that much more mature when handling 4k, and advanced audio, along with boasting way better specs that blow the socks off PS4.
If consoles were an open platform, in-terms of development minus what MS is doing, it would make more sense, and it would make more sense if those different configurations were based on different tier's of gaming like low to high end cp/steam boxes.
What doesn't make sense in the long run is thinking that having mid generational upgraded consoles will make your sales for your new console be higher. If anything it will make them that much lower, and people wont buy them until a new iteration.
I think you are overestimating the number of people who would buy new console just because they are new. I don't think 30 million people bought PS4 because they couldn't resist buying it.True, but I don't think the risk is really that great. Early adopters are generally early adopters simply because they can't resist the new shit. We always know we're getting a crappy deal overall, but buy anyway, because 2017 isn't 2013 and we ain't that patient... hell, there's no guarantee we'll even live to see it, lol. If anything, those that buy consoles at or near launch are far more likely to be in the "upgrade every iteration" group.
Wtf this is stupid. Devs will surely be pissed off.
Insider battles!

Maybe hes saying it will be a significant upgrade, but not in the performance areas we are assuming?OK so let me get this straight:

As long as it's only for 4k, I don't give a shit. I bought my 1080p TV only a year ago. Not ready to upgrade in a long time.
Somebody explain who Zoetis is.
I seriously could not imagine the current generation hardware lasting for another 3 or 4 years. PC is progressing extremely fast at this rate and the current consoles are serviceable, but dated. .
Somebody explain who Zoetis is.
Fuckkkkwrong
I will laugh if they use upscaling to upscale 1080p to 4K because that will be so ugly. There is a reason why upscaling generally isn't used because it looks bad(else everyone would be doing it).
Sony, what the hell are you doing?! Don't make me regret picking up a PS4 at launch, don't be that guy.
