Uncharted 4 has gone gold

Dealing with Colin's unjustified arrogance doesn't seem like much fun to me.

Well, they're friends.

I still have no idea why they want this franchise to end.

The creative visionary behind the franchise has left the franchise, and on less-than-good-terms, quite obviously.

The current creative force (Neil) in the studio has ideas of his own, and with this being the last one, it also lets the studio move on.

Uh I hope the franchise will end after ND is done working on it. I don't think people would want any other studios working on something Uncharted related.
Sony Bend? The engine is already there so they won't have to build it from the ground up. Golden Abyss had flaws but mainly because it was a show piece for all of the Vita's functions.

Sony Bend has their own IP now. Just like all the other Sony 1st party studios.

I agree. If anything, I think the IP should just go dormant. I know it is a money maker but still. Let everyone do their own thing and let ND make another big franchise.

If Uncharted is to continue existing as a game franchise...

I wouldn't want an existing studio to become a franchise factory.

But I wouldn't be against the idea of a "brand new studio" being set-up to develop a new Uncharted game. Something like a 343i equivalent.

Franchise factory studios is not everyone's favourite end-game, but if a whole new studio/team can come to existence by the commercial stability of an inherited AAA franchise, it's not such a bad thing.

My only point of reference for studios created to take over a major series is 343, who pretty much killed Halo for me.

What other examples are there? The idea just doesn't seem to jive with me.

This thread went from game going gold to metascore guessing to spoiler thread.

I'm out.
I was curious what people could be saying other than something like " that's cool" to this type of thread, so I just clicked the last page to get the the idea of what was being said. I guess you saved me some time thanks

If Bend's new IP isn't very successful then I can see them being made to develop a new Uncharted game with a new main character after that. I don't know how well that would go down though, one of the biggest appeals of the series is its characters.

They've been very careful with their wording, only saying it's Naughty Dog's or Nathan Drake's last Uncharted to leave them the option of a sequel.

Weren't Bend thinking of making another one, but decided on something else? I remember reading that.
Early last year a person on reddit who claimed to be from Bend said that Bend pitched another one but Naughty Dog stopped it from happening fearing that it could cause "franchise burnout" for Uncharted.

I doesn't prove anything, but Polygon's history with blatantly biased opinions is extensive.

I'm not really up to date with all that stuff. Were there any incidents where Polygon was called out for having some sort of bias (Other than TLOU review)?

Or is it just because Arthur Gies works there?

Arthur Gies' Microsoft money, tattoo, review score differences between PS4 and XB1 on a handful of multiplats, and overall downplaying the difference between both platforms.

Same reason why Breaking Bad ended after 5 seasons. They have a story to tell, and they're sticking to that plan. Going out on a high note, rather than milking it.

I find it funny that Uncharted is stopping at 4 while Indiana Jones is getting a 5th movie.

Just goes to show how out-of-control Hollywood's sequel/prequel/reboot fever is right now when fucking video games are showing more restraint.

Well, it's naughty dogs last uncharted. Sony could still make more right? They shouldn't though. Just let naughty dog make a new IP.

What makes matters worse is that the writer of The Crystal Skull is writing the new indie film.

He also wrote the screenplay for Spider-Man, Mission Impossible, and Jurassic Park. I can't imagine there's any writer in Hollywood who hasn't had a few flops.

By the way, do we know if The Making of Uncharted 4 is a weekly series ? The first two were quite close release-wise. The "Pushing Technical Boundaries" one can't come soon enough.

How is a journalist questioning a news story delivered by the company he covers 'arrogance'?

What else would you call inaccurately insisting that the reason for the delay on U4 into May wasn't because of the stated reasons? Clearly he didn't have any inside info, given that the game has already gone gold.

I doubt it was a fear of "franchise burnout". It's more likely that someone at Naughty Dog had the misfortune of playing Golden Abyss.

Just watch the video in the making of series. Not like they haven't in any of their other games, but it looks like they put their all into this game. One of the developers says that this is pretty much the game to put everything they wanted into Uncharted so they've got to do it. My most hyped game for 2016... I better finish a few games on my backlog before this.

I bought the controller, because I have a problem and always want the new controllers when they're released. But I'm not a big fan of the colour, even in person, and will likely just end up returning it since I don't need it.

Kinda expected since they are adding vehicles in the game, have they mentioned whether you can leave the jeep at the players will or are you locked in?
