edit: glad you like it :)

Yeah I ordered from Amazon as well but also sent them a message detailing the issue. They appear to understand where I'm coming from and said they'd contact the seller/publisher. Instead of the usual 24h turnaround they said it might take a couple weeks due to the situation but they'd let me know. I'll see where it goes because I'd rather buy a local version instead if importing. It's not like VLR which lacked English Audio.

I'm with you on getting a local version over importing. Good job on trying to solve the issue rather than myself just waiting on a update. Here's hoping you deliver good news if you receive any update.

I'm getting worried :( I know it sounds like I'm moaning too much and being an asshole especially since we werent even sure ZTD would be a thing a year ago, but I guess we want it to be perfect :(

OK, maybe the game doesnt have text in it (?) but I think given its medium on a portable video game console, its important that we're able to read/view the cutscenes at our own pace. Its just the "without text windows" part that worries me. Would the subtitles work in the same way as text windows? :s

Also I wonder if the game will have some sci-fi ish stuff in too :s

Everyone always argued if it will/should be more like 999 or VLR, if it should have sprites or 3d models, if it should be horror or scifi, ... Now we have a trailer for the game and it looks like something no one saw coming, something new, and no one really knows what to make of it yet.

That won't change until Aksys release some gameplay footage, maybe even a demo. Uchikoshi said this will be the best game in the series and that he's making the game he wants to make, so let's just wait and see how it turns out. I'm pretty confident that the story will be good (Uchi had 4+ years to work on it), the previews didn’t mention anything negative about the gameplay and we can find out if the game is good in 3 months by finally playing it ourselves :)

Ah OK, perhaps I'm worrying about nothing :p Its just the trailer seemed more like Saw or something focusing just on the violence (though to be fair I got those vibes when I first started 999) and just want the game to live up to expectations :D Being able to advance the text alone (say pressing a button after each line) would be most important for me if there isnt lengthy text anymore.

Also we have said we wanted a return to 999's atmosphere (again to be fair), which I'm sure it will deliver so thats fine :D.

Edit: @takoyaki you make good points :D Also, I think I'm kinda apprehensive by the "This is more like a Telltale game" thing too because I've never played one of their recent titles (The Walking Dead etc) so dont really know what to expect.

Totally see where you're coming from grim. Just try an episode of a TT game like S1 of Walking Dead or Life is Strange and see if you like that style of game.

It's also possible that the trailer wasn't mainly directed at us, because they know damn well that long time fans will buy the game no matter what. Maybe ZTD is more similar to the last two games than the trailer let's on and Trailer no.1 was intended to also get people interested who'd never play something called a "visual novel".

And let's be honest, the setup and early parts of 999 are heavily inspired by Saw 1/2 ;)

Don’t worry, I’ve had the same thing happen with other orders from amazon.com over the years, especially with limited editions. It says that the game will ship internationally while the game is in stock, but then it changes either when there aren’t many units left in stock or after they have run out. Same thing happened yesterday with the PSVR units on amazon.com.

Again, this exact thing has happened to me a few times now and amazon always shipped it after taking the order. Just be sure to not make any changes to the order, that’s the only way it might get canceled.
That's a relief. Thanks for the info!

Btw: I also preordered the 3DS special edition on Amazon and don't need it or sell it for more money later.

Would it help someone if I would just cancel the order and someone in this thread would act quick enough?

Wait, of ZTD? With the watch? Don't cancel that, it won't go back into the system.
Wait for it to release and sell it to make your money back or raffle it off.
Those are gonna be in high demand.

Yeah, a ZTD 3DS watch edition. I only want to keep the Vita version and don't want to sell it for more money. Would be happier if a gaf ZE fan without one would get it.

Yeah, I'd say wait and find somebody to sell it to at cost then. Canceling your preorder would just make it vanish into the ether and nobody would get it.

I always assumed that Amazon would free up a spot after a cancelation, but in that case I hold on to it and ask around here when we are closer to release.

I started mine the day the trailer dropped. Gonna see what ending I get first, I haven't played this since about 2010 so I definitely forgot how to get the true ending :p then onward to VLR!

*Examines kitchenware*
"Did you see that action movie that came out last week?"
"Nah, I heard it was critically panned"
"I dunno, I heard it was enjoyabble with a little pot"

I say keep it, then sell it to me. I'd pay you the full price plus whatever it costs to ship it to Germany.
It would mean that I had a spare watch but I know exactly who I could gift it to as a birthday present :)

The game has random events! Hype!

999 Ending Spoilers
I got the safe ending in 999 yesterday. Already got the knife and axe. Will probably go for sub ending followed by real. After that will start VLR.

VLR spoiler:
This is probably in spoiler territory, but in Virtue’s Last Reward Junpei says he hasn’t seen Akane in a long time, but in Zero Time Dilemma both characters meet again and they’re on the same team.

Yeah, you guessed it this is a spoiler. [Laughs] It may appear this contradicts the previous game, but if you play this you’ll find a plausible explanation.

This one in particular was interesting to me, and has been something on my mind since the full cast of ZTD was revealed.

Nothing about that spoiler contradicts what we know about ZTD

ZTD takes place 1 year after 999. VLR takes place 49 years after ZTD

It was fairly heavily implied that the last time he saw her was during 999, as the 999 FAQ backs this up. Plus, with Akane being there and all the talk of the Mars Mission Test Site, don't you think this would have been brought up. They specifically said Sigma, Phi, Diana, and Junpei were there.

listen to the mad man
the spoiler is probably some sort of memory wipe thing; we already know ZTD features mechanics relating to character memory.

GAAAAHHH I just corrupted my save for my current run through VLR. I totally forgot about that glitch in the 3DS version that happens when you save during a puzzle segment. 15 hours down the drain. FUCK

to be honest it's not like 999 had all that many plot threads left hanging.
All I can think about is All-Ice/Alice relationship, Gordain and Snake waking up with e Free The Soul robe on.
Also, I think we could consider
the All-Ice thing to be just a red herring and nothing more. I'm not saying there won't be anything in ZTD, but I don't believe we really need more on the matter.
As for the robe, wasn't that just because Gordain was part of the cult, and so the robe was on the ship? Was there more to this and I forgot? D:

Now that Zero Escape series is coming to an end, what do you as a creator want to do next?

With Zero Time Dilemma we changed to a more cinematic method of storytelling and the honest reason is people don’t like reading. Cinematics are much more direct and it’s much easier to keep people invested in a story. While adventure game genre has a lot going for it, it also has a high barrier of entry. Hopefully, I can continue making adventure games with a more cinematic bent. We made this new engine for Zero Time Dilemma and I would like to use this engine to create further cinematic stories in the future.
So no narration, I guess?

Better. No censorship or babying whatsoever. We serious shit now.

Hell, (TRAILER SPOILERS)
Q gets FRIED, for fuck's sake.
ZTD will be fucked up, so fucked up.

Holy shit, thats a "Hard R" or "NC-17" rating
In ZTD
I wonder if we'll find out who Gordain is? I once had a theory that Gordain would be Brother

Ok, so I went into full media blackout up till now, but that:
The idea of randomizing events in Zero Time Dilemma is interesting. Why did you add this in?

Kotaro Uchikoshi, Director: To kind of spoiler proof the game. If you go onto a FAQ site you’ll learn how to do this and that and beat the game. That’s not very interesting. I thought adding a random element would add a sense of surprise
sounds like a great idea, I hope it'll work out.

Now, back into the cave for me, don't want to get spoiled too much.

OK, so no novel/narration (?) this time, no text windows and "people dont like to read".

But reading subtitles involves reading?!?

I think the audience is being underestimated here, unless theyre trying to sell the game to people who have never played this weird thing called "visual novel".

Well, ideally you shouldn't need to read subtitles if you're listening to what they're saying. But I think they just want to broaden the audience with this; we'll see if it works or not.

I think we will get something like Walking Dead. But this being 3d and no text boxes makes me think that we are not getting those large walls of texts and explanations. They were the best part.

Yeah, I liked those too :(
As for subtitles, I meant more like if youre playing in Japanese. And yeah you can listen to what theyre saying in English, but what if you miss something and want to replay it?

I'm going to miss the explanations myself :(

I'm still in the "let's wait for gameplay footage" camp, but it really does sound like Uchikoshi thinks the series was a success in the West despite being a visual novel.

He probably also wants to get rid of that infamous "Uchikoshi pacing" and streamline the story. On the one hand, many stories in VNs are just too long and poorly paced. On the other hand, stuff like going to the Sandwich Shop every day in E17 adds a weird charm to that game.

Good post, I agree with you here, what you say about VN especially Ever 17 :) We'll have to wait and see how ZTD plays but I think its odd Uchikoshi should say that, what he did. I think 999/VLR was successful because it was a VN/adventure game so in the West that was something new and exciting that we hadnt seen before.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
If there's a Steam release, not sure why there isn't a PS4 digital release, but oh well! Dying to play the game either way.

I really hate the narrative that people don't like reading. Not because it's not true, but because in the West, it is. It really pisses me off that Western gamers don't like reading.

Living in Japan, it's been great to see how much people read. It's astonishing to me how much Americans try to avoid reading.

Hating to read is like hating to think.

I'd be really hyped for the Steam Release if 999 and/or VLR are released on there as well. That said, I have the 3DS version preordered since forever now, and I'm totally okay with just that. :p

Also, Finally caved and watched the trailer. It looks really awesome, but I'm gonna just try to ignore everything from here on and forget everything. I want this to be as fresh of an experience as possible! (Though I'm trusting someone to ship out a PSA somehow if there's any game-breaking glitches, please and thank you.)

I'm hyped for the Steam release. I just hope it's a same day and date release as handhelds in West. It's seems to be the case in Japan. If so... I guess I'll have to beg JapanGAF to gift me that one for money.
