Halo 5: Guardians |OT3| Ball Dropped

Sorry didnt see this and got in a shitty mood so I got off, next time !

Ah it's fine no worries.

If nobody minds my arrogance but what's such a big deal about binaries on arena? Specially assault on coliseum? Are there two of them? because one should be about it. Been hearing the changes they are trying and just from hearing them they sound fine, don't know how they play but like the fact the are experimenting with weapons that aren't in arena isn't such a bad thing and I'm sure if it's not the best idea they will change it. Just like overgrown, now it's not a broken map with two op weapons in that kind of map.

lost like every game tonight in Arena. These are the times that make me want to quit entirely, (for the millionth time) I'm so bad if I quit this game for even a day.

Fuck it. I'm done. This is the last Halo I buy. It's been fun but I'm out.
You're supposed to turn it around. -_^

But really, I understand. One of the reasons I like BTB is that being thrown into the same game as a person 100 levels higher than you isn't so impactful. People can still play it in a party, but they do less often because there aren't ranking up benefits. I can understand your perspective, wanting to learn progressively by playing with people at the same or not-too-much-better skill rather than being dominated into oblivion and trying to scrape your way into a cohesive existence. I also don't understand fully the validity of very high skill players complaining that even social is tense because there aren't enough noobs to stomp on. You'd think that someone used to high-skill games wouldn't be concerned with the level of play so much as the absence of ranking loss.

As it is, there is barely anything wholly devoted to helping new players find their feet with a consistent experience of people around their level. You have ranked matches that often pit you against teams, or unranked matches which often pit you against people of way higher skill. It sucks, and some kind of solution should be found because it does indeed turn new players off, as it is turning you off. So with much understanding, I'd repeat my advice to play more BTB, if only to get more value for your money out of this game you bought. There is more breathing room than the 4v4 Arena games so it doesn't feel like dueling or playing tourney Smash Bros, and it doesn't snowball like Warzone so you can always find plenty of options of what to do and nice weapons are laying around.

Also be sure to come back for Firefight, which will be all PvE so those super skilled guys will be working with you.

So I posted about this during the stream, but I'm not sure anyone saw it so I went back and grabbed a picture of it. We're getting the additional ammo loadout weapons for the different scopes?

After winning the last two Warzone matches in a row, I now realize: "Fuck, you get a ton of REQ points if you win the matches!" Usually I am on the losing side, so I wouldn't know.
And man do I want to play on the new WZ map, but so far it has been ARC, Raid, Noctus, Raid, and now Storm Break in a row. Maybe the next one? Or will it be Raid again.

To those who are competent at multiplayer, what controller layout are you using? I've been using bumper-jumper, but am beginning to feel it's not ideal; maybe I just need to get gud.

God I hope not. So many useless reqs made to pad the updates and make sure I never finish silvers. I would hate having to unlock a whole bunch of AR's I'd never use again. Will probably make the menu even slower.

Not a fan of making the speed boost give spartan charges an insta kill. I already think spartan charge might be my least favorite thing about halo 5. This new change just makes it even more grossly stupid. Like I've literally just accepted that sprint is here to stay, but spartan charge annoys the crap out of me for some reason.

It varies on some things on the ideal control layout for you. Bumper jumper tends to work best for people who claw which is what I do but really it was because it was right stick click for smart scope and couldn't have it any other way. Though whatever control scheme you pick it does take a good while to get used to or just not the one that works for you.

I say looking for things that seem ideal for you for certain things being certain buttons and then just adapt to the ones that are different in that control scheme. Like what is your perfected button for melee? And then go from there.

The speed boost + new insta Spartan Charge is great for clearing marines out of a Warzone base.

EXIT: And fuck, it just threw me into a game, the third time on Raid. Six games in a row now, no new map.

Don't be afraid to change things up for yourself and know you'll need to give it a few days/games on each setting for time to adjust. I found it easiest to get a comfortable layout and button set I liked first then I tweaked the controller specifics e.g. deadzones & acceleration. If you're happy to dole out some cash get a Xbox Elite controller that is programmable, learn and setup the best way right from the start (reminds me I need to get my Elite still). Here's some useful stuff.

My settings -
Button layout: Recon
Stick layout: Recon
Look sensitivity: 2
Look inversion: On
Clench protection: Off
Disable assassinations: Off
Maintain sprint: On
Auto-stabilise: On
Hold to clamber: On
Vibration: On
Toggle crouch: Off
Aim acceleration: 3
Inner dead zone: 2
Outer dead zone: 5

Some of these spawns in Warzone feel super-far away. If I choose an armory on Noctus and there are no enemies around or in it and I spawn closer to the Monument, something is wrong. Some of the Stormbreak spawns were super-far away too. No one in the base but for whatever reason I can't spawn there.

And fuck me, ARC again. Seventh game in a row. I'll just assume that I am not allowed to play on the new map tonight. Not gonna happen.

Edit: Yep, some of the spawns are garbage now. My team holds west armory on ARC with no enemies around it and is pushing to the garage at the beginning of the game. I die and select the west armory as my spawn. It spawns me on the platform in the middle of the blue tunnel. Thing is, it spawned me facing the back wall that is the boundary of the map. I spawned facing weird shit in Stormbreak too. I shouldn't select a spawn, appear, and then say "Where the fuck am I?"

So if there is one thing I would definitely add to the game without question it would be actual tank controls on the Scorpion. The things are fucking useless to me with the shit they have going now. I only keep them around in case someday I'm playing in a party and need to spawn one for someone else to drive.

After winning the last two Warzone matches in a row, I now realize: "Fuck, you get a ton of REQ points if you win the matches!" Usually I am on the losing side, so I wouldn't know.
You also get more depending on where you rank on your team.
I just got #1 the game before last.

And man do I want to play on the new WZ map, but so far it has been ARC, Raid, Noctus, Raid, and now Storm Break in a row. Maybe the next one? Or will it be Raid again.
IKR after playing a couple it just came up with Escape from ARC, which I hate and which pops up more often than the others (30% more than Stormbreak), I straight up closed the game while still in the lobby because FUCK THAT. I just wanted to try the new level. They should have put it on a two-day featured or something.

Edit:
And fuck me, ARC again.
I KNOW RIGHT? Fuck ARC. Just replace it with the new level.

Yeah, I've gotten that tunnel spawn when trying to spawn in the fortress. Then on ARC I have selected my armory (not under attack) and literally spawned in front of the door of the other armory, which was filled with enemies. I have spawned falling off a cliff on Stormbreak. On Array I have spawned on the beach facing the ocean on the other side of a high hill across the road from the armory I was supposed to be defending. On Apex 7 I have spawned on the road around the corner 170.5m away from the Spire I said to spawn at which was not under attack. On Noctus I have spawned in the road in front of a ghost and across from a guy with a railgun 150m away from the base I wanted to spawn in.

Game has shit spawns. I never REQ on a spawn anymore because of it.

Yeah, the amount of pure bullshit I die from is infuriating and it makes me feel like I was never good at halo (which is not the case) I keep trying to like this game but I just don't recognize it. It's just not my halo.

Like spawn issues were never in other Halos... If anything, bad spawn IS Halo.

Doesn't mean there should be bad spawns though 343 fix your shit.

Non-complaint: When we were taking an armory I just walked up wrecking shit with a Whiplash until I was caught on reload. It may have had radius lowered but it's still a god gun. Totally fair adjustment as it's not an explosive projectile weapon.

The map was Recurve. Multi-Team is using the maps from BTB.
Yeah, initially thought they were on 4v4 maps based on some posts ealier. Played a few matches and I'm reallyyy liking the Pistol on BTB maps. I hope they make that change.

I don't feel like I have had a ton of bad spawns, that are leading to deaths and are putting me right in front of people or anything. It just feels like post-update I have been getting spawned further and further away from the space I am choosing to spawn in. It is possible that I am imagining it though, or maybe in the past I was fine spawning far away because I wanted to at that time? I don't know, it could just be a coincidence that I notice it right after the new updates. I don't have near-as-many complaints about the spawns as Dice has made ITT though.
After playing Darkstar, I am undecided. I need more than one match to get my bearings.

At least you haven't spawned in a crate, the vehicle bay of a garage, fortress and etc or in some other object in a warzone map. I spawned in all these areas before in warzone matches.

Played a heap of dark star today, really like it, it feels a bit larger than Arc so it's easy to get to other bases... Lots of ground cover, plenty of action.

I also like how there are many ways to attack and enter armouries and the fortress.

The legendary bosses are easy to take out, so you need to focus on them.

I have actually spawned in a vehicle bay. Not sure why the forcefield doesn't let you pass through one-way.

Edit:
I was just in a Warden coin-toss match and it seemed we were definitely going to lose because he appeared on the side of their armory (they had monument) and they had a tank over there and there were about 4 sniper/beam rifle/DMR people on their team and my entire team were using close to mid-range loadout weapons so no one could even make it over there to take a shot at Warden. In that situation, I have to wonder which is the case:
1) My team had no REQs to compare because they hadn't unlocked them.
2) My team had no REQs to compare because they sold them because they were trying to get more unlocks done.
3) My team had good REQs but just decided not to use them because it didn't feel worth it to give it a try.
4) My team had good REQs but didn't have the energy points to bring them out.

I'm not saying it isn't fair, especially as they did capture and hold Monument to earn that positional advantage, and we managed to get first Warden which made it a close match, but still the very unbalanced ending made me wonder why so few of my guys had any REQs out. I don't feel like I did all that well in playing but I still had plenty of energy for REQs, so I don't think it's #4.

Something about those kind of games just don't seem like what the vision for Warzone is intended to be, especially since earlier they were harassing with a Phaeton, Banshee, Ghosts, Gausshog, etc. Aside from the Wraith I got from a lucky random card pull, I think my team once brought out a single Ghost, and one time we stole a Gungoose. The fact we made it a close match regardless speaks well for the effort they put in, it's just the REQ difference seems odd to me.

The multiple routes and paths are why I couldn't get my bearing on the map, in addition to it being new and unfamiliar. I am thinking I probably should have watched some of the footage of it before-hand. But like I said in a previous post, it will take me more than one play on it, I'm not judging it this early. It will also help when I am with a team who is doing a bit better because we got absolutely thrashed and there wasn't any chance to go off the beaten path or just take off in a direction and see what is there. We were also stuck at REQ Lvl 1 for an extremely long time p so I didn't have vehicles available to me either.
The beginning was the most disorienting part of the match though. We jump out, start eliminating the AI enemies, I start looking for the core/base area so I can emerge into the main map, and suddenly enemy Spartans are rushing into my field of view and they kill me. I didn't even know that the game started with us on the 'actual' map. It felt very weird.
Hopefully I get luckier tomorrow and can play on it some more. It seems like Stormbreak was the rarest map for me before this update though, so I hope Darkstar doesn't take that spot.

I know everyone else has fat stacks of REQ points they are sitting on but I just banked 25,000 after my string of WZ matches and it felt good opening multiple Silvers in one sitting rather than opening one as soon as I get 5000 to blow. I didn't get much but I did get a couple of the newest armor pieces and the Classic BR with Laser Sight (hoping that one feels good to me).

It's a bummer at the moment though that a storm is rolling in. I want to keep playing but I lost a couple TVs to multiple different lightning storms somewhat recently. My current TV which is my baby even was taken out of commission for a while with fried HDMI ports from a storm but luckily Samsung had some boards they swapped out in it. Whenever a big thunderstorm with lightning rolls in I take precautions and unplug my TV from its strip and unplug everything from it (sometimes I leave the Xbone hooked up to it because I am 99% sure that the surges or fluctuations were coming in over the copper cable wire through my cable box and into the TV, so that is the main one I isolate from the TV).

There's always more time to play tomorrow though. Oh well, hope I didn't offend the majority of the thread too much with this post. I know how big of an asshole I am to try to join the community and interact with you guys.

They make surge protector units that have cable pass-through as well. Might want to invest in one of those.

You're allowed to observe difficulties/disagreements with the design, personal misunderstandings of mechanics or levels, and failings in your learning process; you're just supposed to keep them to yourself until you're good. Only ever talk out issues to yourself. Can't let them see you fall.

P.S. It looks like in one game on Stormbreak you were the one who killed me the most. Good job.

I does make Halo 5 a very different game. With SC, when you notice an enemy approaching around the corner often best course of action is a well timed acceleration and SC. If you see an enemy who misses you, obviously not having good awareness, often best course of action is to rush after them and do a SC. If you see your team mate in an 1-to-1, often the best course of action is rushing in with a SC. You get the idea. And it's an unforgiving mechanic, if you get SCd you'll nearly always die, because landing that one bullet is almost always certain. SC makes Halo 5 a more aggressive, fast paced game, weirdly more similar to CoD.

On a different subject, what do people think of the new Arena map? I'm pretty excited, feels like ages ago since I learned a new map. I think their release pace is perfect, giving us time to fully digest each new map.

Oh they are going to sell a warzone firefight req pack?
I haven't seen word that they are but I would imagine it is in the works. People would buy it, which makes it seem like a no-brainer to sell one to them then.
They make surge protector units that have cable pass-through as well. Might want to invest in one of those.
Mine has that and I have the copper running through it but I feel much safer unplugging the TV. Mainly because I cannot be 100% sure it was the cable lines (I am pretty sure though) and I wasn't here any of the times it happened. Three separate storms, three TVs affected, and I was still out-of-country during that period. No one else in the apartment complex reported any issues so I know it wasn't direct lightning strikes or anything, but if a close strike were to happen, the surge protector probably isn't going to stop it anyway. Better safe than sorry.

P.S. It looks like in one game on Stormbreak you were the one who killed me the most. Good job.
Oh yeah, thanks. I just looked through Waypoint and found that one. Your team kicked ass that match and you did pretty well yourself. Better than I did anyway. Tonight wasn't my night for Stormbreak at all. At least in that match I put a couple kills on the board, the second Stormbreak match saw my team getting less than 200 points and I got no kills, one death, and only killed two NPCs. I'm trying to remember what the hell happened that match but I am drawing a blank at the moment.

I disagree re Spartan charge.
I think it's risky, sometimes you fly straight past your target for starters.
If I see it coming I'll try to get a couple of shots in first so a simple melee counter will kill the charger.

It's only as strong as a regular melee (without speed boost req after this update)

Dice

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
Yeah SC is fine IMO. If you are backing up and firing at them it's easy to shut down, even more so with a smartly-timed thrust and/or melee. If you're hit by it in the back or from the side while you were fighting someone else, you were probably fucked even if there was no SC.

I just remembered: In a Stormbreak game I very quickly got in with a boltshot and splinter grenade I picked up to kill Commander Lochagos but then I nearly died to an enemy spartan who had an incineration cannon. I was like what the fuuuuuuuuck. I'm serious that I even sprinted right in there while my team captured the armory, so it's kind of a stretch even to think that he super-lucked-out with a REQ3 random pull after his team got their armory and made it out there that fast. I have to assume so, tho?

Edit: Reviewing the theater clip shows I was distracted by a Crawler for a second and that's when the enemy spartan picked it up from where Lochagos died just before I punched him. I've never been killed by Lochagos so I didn't know he had one of those on him. Useful info.

I personally love to read about people's games, and to discuss things they dislike. It gives me context for my own gameplay, seeing other people can have loooong loss streaks (been there), bad spawns (not an issue to me), terrible solo team mates (happens sometimes), lag spikes (hit and miss in UK) or SC fatigue (I'm undecided about it). It helps me to not get as frustrated when they happen to me, knowing they're normal and not (just) me being crap.

I also love seeing clips of awesome kills or other funny moments.

Apologies if that stuff rubs people the wrong way, maybe this thread is meant to be about tracking your REQ collection, organising the weekend matches and Spartan Company, discussing new releases and HWC.

Maybe we could have a separate Halo 5 gameplay discussion thread.

Wow those changes to Torque sound huge, probably even bigger gameplay dynamic changes than removing Fuel Rod from Riptide

I rarely use ignore. Especially in this thread, it's sort of pointless. But I still only reserve it for actual "offenders" if you can call 'em that.

It would certainly be better than your regular schtick.

Which is? Not commentating every game I play?

Complaints have their place here and are justified guys, don't let yourself be fooled.

I'm not advocating that people can't make posts complaining about problems or issues.

I just don't see the utility in taking up ~40% of all the posts on each page with the same few people, saying the same stuff over and over again. I wouldn't even mind a couple times a day, but when every few posts is the same few people for pages, it's kind of ridiculous.

Refer to my above statement. We don't need a separate thread, some folks just need some damn self-control. You posted on a regular basis when you started in the thread and it wasn't a problem. You're one of the better "new" folks around here. This is the H5 OT. Anything regarding H5 is fair game. I was offering my impression of a few posters. You weren't included in that assessment.

If I'm such an issue, folks can always ignore me too.

So pros are still on meltdown? :p
What do you mean meltdown?
It is a fair reaction when through an accident the maps are even changed in custom ganes and you can't run proper scrims.
Also 343 got in a skype call with pros this week and introduced some changes, most pros already replied that these would suck, but 343 decided to still do it.

It is completely ok for 343 to try changes and stuff but even a little bit of sense had been enough to see the 2 Binarys or the SAW+speedboost would be a shit decision.

Torque is way better though

Finally got a game on Darkstar and... it's very confusing. I feel like I saw an enemy spartan "every once in a while" and nobody really seemed to know what they were doing. Pretty sure I experienced one of those new weapons right to the face a couple times; some kind of energy weapon. I probably should have REQ'd one I got from the free pack they gave out to see what it's like but with no certain engagement spots or directions I wasn't really comfortable that I wouldn't get blasted without a chance to fire. I definitely got lost and caught out plenty of times. It came down to Warden and we took care of most of him while keeping the enemy at bay only for one to sneak behind us and steal him with an IC last second. New map but some things never change, I guess.

I think it'll end up being pretty interesting when everyone has a feel for it, though. Lots of directions to go, lots of directions to be attack from, lots of cover to duck behind, lots of vertical play, lots of tunnels, lots of indoor spots, lots of open spaces for vehicles, lots of AI enemies and bosses spawning in all kinds of different positions. It should always hold plenty of different types of engagements.

Thing is Halo, more specifically population, needed to bridge the gap between ultra competitive and casual. The Warzone and Arena split is perfect but you have to allow some elements of "cheap" kills for lack of a better term. The pros will dislike easy kills where it's a lot of fun for the less competitive or new to the game etc.

The 2 binaries is too much. The SAW+speedboost is fine to test out.
