Romancing SaGa 2 now available in English for iOS/Android

I've never played a Romancing Saga game. Will this be a good place to start?

Yes, it would be fine. But if you don't want to wait, you can always pick up Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song on PS2 now, if you have any way of playing it that is. All the SaGa games are stand alone, like Final Fantasy.

Any controller support for Android? Would love to just play it on my Pixel C or screen mirror to my TV.

You know, I understand the frustration over S-E dropping the Vita as a platform when they release their games in English these days. I really do. But whining about it when people are happy that it's getting localized to begin with seems kinda lame? I dunno.

Can't we have both?

I mean I'm glad for those who are willing and even like to play on iOS/Android, but I (and many others, for good reasons or not) just don't, and the game releasing on Vita in Japan sorta created expectations for Vita owners in the west so it's only fair that they are dissapointed somehow
unless the Vita version is shit and we get burn kinda like Chaos Rings...

The ones who are lame are Square-Enix (and maybe Sony) for not even releasing a digital version on Vita
(kudo for not trolling in the thread title though, but maybe they were too many "!")

That extra space in the combat screen looks odd, but its strange to see those 2D sprites animated. Then again, thats how the FF remakes should've been imo.

Has the music been remastered too? I'd love this on Vita, but when it comes to SaGa, i'll take what I can get.

To add to this, Nintendo seems more than happy to handle marketing and publishing duties for S-E games to release them on the 3DS outside of Japan. I wonder if the sign that Sony isn't willing to bother with the same thing indicates the future of Sony's interest in the dedicated handheld space.

Someone hit Gio Corsi up on twitter about Building the List. This is the third game (Mana, Setsuna, Romancing Saga) SE has the localization work done for other platforms, but isn't bringing the Vita version.

As an added, is anyone familiar with the actual cost of QA/Cert for a vita game assuming localization work is done for other platforms? It seems like this would be incredibly inexpensive to push the work through for. I can't imagine that it wouldn't see some return on the investment, even with abysmal sales.

Seriously what's up with SE? No setsuna and no saga 2 as well. At this rate I don't think we'll ever see world of final fantasy, dqh2, dqb and the new saga game localised for the vita. This is extremely disappointing. :(

RS1 has a full English translation patch out now, although the game is still incredibly complex to figure out. Or you could try Duckroll's suggestion of the PS2 remake.

The PS2 remake is a good entry point imo. The music is great, the voice acting...while really cheesy at times...is actually not that bad, and its got a unique water color style going for it. Also slight tutorials that explain some of the more complicated systems, but still let you figure out alot of nuances.

The fact that they aren't willing to sign off on even that should speak volumes about what they've seen their software do on the Vita to date.

What software is that? The last game they released was pretty much FFX HD in 2014.

They could at least TRY with something like AoM.

If not Vita, I'll accept Steam. Just saying...

If there will be a Steam version it will very likely just be the Android one running on an emulator with dreadful performance. It happened to every single recent port of classic Final Fantasy games they did.

Alternatively, if people really want a Vita version, they should ping Gio Corsi to add this game to the building the list initiative.

Meanwhile, I hope the mobile version does well so the series gets some recognition in the west. I'll be doing my part.

Damn you Andrew House. Your stupid words are now making people believe no one in west owns Vita. You're the worst person ever.

I wish some smart company would release a gaming tablet with buttons. Games like this can't be enjoyed on a iPad screen.

Excellent news. Gives me a bit of hope for the future of the series over here.

Would be even better if I had some way to play it though.

It's kind of depressing to see that Square can do some really good HD versions of their old SNES games, but then we still end up with the trainwrecks that are FFV and FFVI on iOS/Android.

Edit: Maybe 'trainwreck' is a bit harsh, since they're serviceable games. But the clashing art styles and new sprites mesh together horribly, compared to how much care seems to be going into this Romancing SaGa port. I'm seriously impressed by how good it looks.

After Chaos Rings 3 and Adventure of Mana, people shouldn't really be surprised about no Vita. It's sad, but at least we get to play it on iOS/Android.

Reading reviews on the original Japanese release, seems like a fantastic game. All the quirks that come with a Saga game, and difficult too.

Hopefully there's BT controller support. That should be baked in to these games.

Would buy if they localised the Vita version.

What is even happening with the SaGa Vita game? Because I really doubt we will get that if it resurfaces.

No complaints from me. I had a blast finally beating Dragon Quest 2 on Android last fall, something I was never able to manage emulating the NES, SNES, and GBC versions on my laptop. I already have cash from working the Google Surveys for the past few months ready to go.

I get that GAF isn't a place with a lot of mobile players, but jeez, its ROMANCING SAGA 2! One of the classic 16 bit jrpgs people many people love so much. Turn based games work wonderfully on mobile as well. Between this and bluestacks options, I really hope people give this game a shot.

...Now if only I can get myself unstuck in Romancing SaGa 1.

I'm excited for this, but it pretty much always sucks when a game built for a controller is ported to a platform that relies on a touchscreen.

Daaaaamn, people are salty about the Vita thing.

I sent a friendly tweet to the official account earlier saying that we're happy it's coming at all and not to listen to naysayers and people are insulting me. Chill out folks.

No Vita has finally made me give up on life as a whole. I'm just waiting to die now.

As happy as you are, there are many who are extremely unhappy. I'm sure the overlap between players who want to play an old Japanese RPG translated for the first time and Vita owners is pretty big. This is the kind of game people but Vitas for.

It's also not an expensive port and it's already translated. It's very easy to feel like the game isn't coming to Vita just to spite us. Which, given recent comments about why Setsuna isn't coming to Vita, is easy to think.

I'm sorry you got yelled at, though. Vita enthusiasts just feel invisible. So someone saying "don't mind these people" is quite the button to press.

Absolutely over the moon about this! :D

Don't even care if there's no Vita version, the fact that this, of all games, is coming out in English is more than enough for me.

I wouldn't care too, if there was a way to play this mobile version with traditional controls. There is none, not officially. I don't know what holding Apple to create a iPod Touch with buttons for us gamer folk. Or Google with Nexus.

This just makes SaGa 2 and 3 DS not being brought over here hurt that much more. I really, REALLY wanted to play them because I'm a huge fan of the originals.

Maybe with Romancing SaGa 2 coming out we can get 3 as well at some point. I rather enjoy 3.

Romancing SaGa 3 is my favourite game in the series, so I hope this paves the way for a re-release/remake of that.
