This follows up on the game having a series best debut in the UK.

Dark Souls III is Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s fastest selling title ever, the company announced.

The From Software-developed PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC action RPG launched last week to ” rave reviews and incredibly strong first week sales,” breaking records for the most successful day-one launch and fastest-selling title in the company’s history.

We won't have NPD numbers until May, but on SteamSpy, currently 32.88% (US) + 5.23% (Canada) of the 633,444 sales on SteamSpy are in what I believe to represent Bandai Namco America's "America" region, giving us ~242K on PC. It's possible they also cover Latin America, but I'm not sure if that's a separate regional branch.

while I don't think a new Dark Souls game would be the best move forward, I would like to see them apply the formula to new concepts, like they did with Bloodborne.

I think this is what they might do next. Not the Sci fi part but a different Souls game.
