If Xbox One slim had a modest specs bump, what would your reaction be.

I.e.
Increase CPU to 2.1 ghz

Increase GPU clock to 1050 mhz. Esram speed increased. Maybe be a 12 CU polaris part in order to alleviate bandwidth problems.

Increase ram capacity to 12GB, up to 8GB usable for games. (2 x LPDDR4 6GB chips on 128bit bus). 4GB for apps heaven.

Xbox one compatibility are guaranteed by hardware.
Newer Xbox one games will ship with two binaries, one for Xbox1, and one for Win10 devices.

The slim will be one of the following Xbox W10 skus listed below:

Xbox TV:
2 core Puma / Zen at 1.8 ghz.
2 cu cpu, 128:16:8 GPU at 600 mhz.
4GB of LPDDR4 on 64 bit bus. 32 gb/s.
Comes with gesture enabled remote with in built microphone.
Kinect sold separately. Controller sold separately. Works with any KB&M.
$199

Xbox Slim:
8 core Puma / Zen at 2.1 ghz
12 CU Polaris gpu, 768:48:16 GPU at 1050 mhz. 1.6 teraflops.
32mb esram.
12GB of LPDDR4 on 128 bit bus. 68 gb/s.
Comes with controller.
OS runs smoother.
Old xbox one games run in BC mode. New Xbox one games run in UWP mode, with ability to use up to 8GB of ram, the increased cpu and gpu power.
$299.

Xbox Two:
8 core Zen at 2.1 ghz
24 CU gpu, 1536:96:32 at 1050 mhz. 3.2 teraflops.
32mb of Esram.
16GB of DDR4 on 256 bit bus. 100 gb/s
$399

Xbox Three:
8 core Zen at 2.1 ghz
32 CU gpu at 1050 mhz. 4.8 teraflops
Some amounts of HBM2 on the APU.
16GB of DDR4 on 256 bit bus. 100 gb/s
$499

Xbox Four (in a few years time):
16 core CPU at 2.4 ghz
64 CU gpu at 1.2 ghz. ~10 teraflops
64GB of HBM2.
$399

If it's lagging behind Neo, then no. I am really only interested in PC/Xbox integration at this point. MS will either go super cheap, or all out. There's no reason for them to make a tiny move. Where would that put them?

I think a slim Xbox One redesign and a price drop would help more in their situation. The general consumer doesn't see nor care about specs. What they'll see on the shelf is a "new" Xbox and a "new" PS4 with the new Xbox being cheaper. If they're able to give it a modest bump as well as lowering the price then definitely go for it but I don't think the bump will have much affect on sales. If it came to choosing between the two then they should definitely go for a price drop.

The bump will not even be marketed, outside of DF articles where the slim games that take advantage of the extra power go toe to toe with PS4.

The immediate impact for consumers would be OS smoothness and richness.

Bad idea. They either go all in to match the Neo or just release a tradition slim model. I think they go with the latter due to the backlash on the Neo. This could be Microsoft returning the favor to Sony for E3 2013.

There is no advantage to gain from increasing the quantity of RAM unless you're making a new console all together instead of having a forward-compatible original console.

And a 12 CU Polaris versus a 36 CU Polaris potentially... welp.

No, unfortunately Sony it's playing with house money here. They're competing against themselves until MS releases a new console. Think about the value proposition: Would you like the PS4 that's stronger than an Xbox One or a PS NEO that will crush it? Who would pick the weakest of the 3 choices? MS has to respond like NWA with straight out of compton.

You hear me Spencer? Straight Out of Motherfucking Compton. Go ham.

More RAM for system functions without extra RAM available to games would still be a huge help.

Outside of that. I wouldn't be interested. Not a big enough upgrade.

With all this talk of an upgraded XB1/PS4 coming soon, all I can think of is...

I honestly have no fucking clue at this point... just want to wait and see how this all plays out.

Xbox is my primary platform, and if somebody said "you could play the next RDR at a higher resolution/better performance/better detail/etc etc etc..." ...it would be hard to resist. This coming from someone who is still very skeptical of this whole mid-generation upgrade thing.

and if there was a boost to XBO, not as upset since it's already way behind. Might actually be good for them to do so but Sony is already running away with this gen so their choice to make a more powerful one is confusing and pointless greed

Same as with the PS4K, irritation and annoyance. Stop trying to prolong the life of these consoles by releasing new incrementally powerful hardware that's only going to be held back by the older model either way. Just wait it out another couple of years or so, and release a proper new console with a more substantial performance upgrade.

Typically. Yes, but this generation has shown its more about gameplay, and not resolution. MS is moving units. I think they could do a sensible upgrade to increase salses. People will buy it if its marketed well.

It only makes me fear of the add on wars of my childhood.

Those were dark times. Anytime you'd be sure this modification was, the, one. One to get all the cool games, you see. But then? Another and another. Developers didn't seem too hot on making games for the core thing it was modified for.

I'd just hope if we go to a modular world, it will be for the betterment of gaming. The medium. And subscription based for hardware and software developers. Not just a technical upgrade in definition, a boost when more sales are desired by stockholders.

There is a challenge to making something shine above the others on set hardware. I must say. It would be a loss, but maybe one that could be a nice memory.

Unlike the add on wars.

What would this competition between Sony and MS become in the future gamescape? What are those consoles?

I wouldn't care. I only play exclusives on my X1 and they look fine to me. Quantum Break looks pretty great to me, definitely not on par with something like The Order or Uncharted but good enough that I'm not going to spend another $300+ to make up the difference. And seeing as how most X1 exclusives are on PC, if Microsoft ends up doing iterative consoles I'd rather go that route.

The hardware is really great too, my PS4 is annoyingly loud and I'll be tempted to get a Neo if it's quieter for that alone. X1 is silent though, and feels a lot better made overall.

That isn't what the OP described, which is what I was addressing.

More RAM for system functions... nobody gonna drop $200+ for that :p

I'd be happy with a modest slim upgrade with Oculus support this year and full blown balls to the wall upgrade next year.

I would like a significant upgrade but any upgrAde that would make the system boot faster and not have the ui run like shit would be ok with me. I hate the laggy ui of Xbox one it's terrible. I hate that I have to push in the direction of something then wait a few seconds for it to respond, such as holding down the Xbox button to shut down its so slow I don't know if it registered sometimes. Compared to ps4's speed it's a joke I know it can do much more than ps4 but it gives a terrible impression when using it and feels janky.

If it's possible to get a cheap expansion pack like the N64, I'd take it.

I'd only be a little annoyed because I bought the Elite bundle. If I still had my launch, wouldn't care.

No reaction. If I were in the market for an Xbox One I'd by that new one, but I'm not gonna replace my launch console with an Xbox Slim if it's not gonna make a big difference. In the case of the PS4 I'm willing to buy a new refresh just so I don't have deal with that loud ass fan anymore.

Honestly I think MS should just release a slim with the same specs as the One. Let Sony experiment with the incremental upgrades before trying it with the Xbox.

I honestly don't care. Just give me some great games and I'm ok with X1 standard.

Gimme Cuphead, Scalebound or SoT, keep making new IPs like Quantum Break, Ori, Sunset Overdrive etc.. this is the right way for me.

Personally, shove the modest bumps as its not enough. If MS were to produce a new machine they need to have a massive jump and at least bring it on par with the PS4K otherwise don't bother.

The ideal for me is they wait and produce an absolute monster xbox two. They can't have third party games lagging significantly behind PS4K performance wise.

Actually Microsoft can decide to keep trying to be viewed as customer friendly and maintain current specs even after releasing the Slim version. I'm not sure however if it'll work for them just as good as the stuff with GWG, because I reckon a lot of the current customers are "power hungry".

To continue on PC.

MS and Sony are targeting different markets I think. Sony is offering an upgrade for PS4 users whereas MS is bringing most of their Xbox lineup to PC.

So if you want a better than Xbox experience, get a PC.

That's how I see it anyway.

That's where I'm at. I'm not pining for a mid-gen upgrade, but it would interesting if MS did release one. Personally, I hope MS releases a traditional slim and goes all out for a 2018 next gen console.
