Mirror's Edge: Catalyst Closed Beta Thread | Didn't Get An Email? Keep Faith

I was so happy when I got to that part that was ripped out of the first game, I noticed the orange walls, but thought it was just a random coincidence, and then I was there, they even put the game's logo, so cool.

Of course, my muscle memory couldn't help me because basic moves are locked behind a skill tree, so that ruined the moment.

Thanks Obama.

Also think collectibles shouldn't have an animation to pick them up, it's a game about speed, make all of them floating shit you just run over to collect. Floating bags, shoes, or whatever.

EDIT: Can you skip the cutscenes? The story is as dumb as everyone expected, but I'm ok with that as long as I'm not forced to watch it.

How is the sound/soundmix in this game? Is it comparable to Battlefield/Battlefront?

I haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
I think I found the plot twist in the game. At some point you find out you're in the Matrix because I don't know how this jump is possible otherwise.

I get the feeling that jump is only possible with the wrist rope thing in the final game, hence the conveniently placed drones flying back and forth. However it's a poor design decision for the guide thing to be registering those routes in the early game when the player clearly doesn't have them.

Oh, by the way, what are you guys using for KB+M controls? The first game was 100% a KB+M game to me, but this one is so weird to play that I switched to the controller.

The one for the dude in the suit? I think it was less than a minute?

If thats the one, finally got it after several tries and I think the game gave me the benefit of the doubt, cleared the pipe around 2-3 seconds and made it somehow.when I thought it was a fail.

I hope they consider difficulty settings or ratings for these... I typically hated timed stuff but my reflexes aren't what they use to be...

No, no, this is the one of the deliveries you collect from the boxes on the walls. You get about 1:04 to do it in.

Does anyone know if this beta will continue to run after it closes on the 26th? I remember with hitman on PS4 i could still launch the game and play offline after the beta closed. Im on hols tom and really wanted more time to explore the open world, so any ideas will it still be playable?

Also confused, what is the SHIFT meter used for when it's full?

The meter is for Focus. Shift is a completely different mechanic.

When your Focus meter is full, you are impervious to most attacks and can only be hurt by counter attacks.

Shift is quick movements. You can use it to dodge to the side when in combat, or for a quick burst forward when at a slow speed. It won't do anything when you're already running (except open doors of course).

Thank you so much! As far as shifting goes, what direction do you shift in to regain speed? I saw Feep mention a sidestep but that doesn't make a bunch of sense to me.

Forward is what you want to regain speed from any stop or slow down. Forward+Shift, then keep holding forward and you'll go into a full run faster than if you just held forward alone.

Is there a video of these Shift mechanics? Sounds very interesting.

Haven't seen any videos, I could try to record one if I remember how to set up on-screen keys... If you try to side or back Shift and you hit an edge, Faith automatically stops. Once you're on that border though, if you Shift again you'll fall off. Forward Shifting doesn't seem to have the same failsafe though - you'll keep going off an edge regardless.

And thanks re: the Dash videos and for sharing those runs! It's really exciting to see that there's all kinds of different routes already, can't wait to see what people come up with when the final game is out. Yeah, always gotta Coil when hitting the end of a Dash, hehe. :D

What's really cool to me is that some of the techniques for finding alternate routes is more accessible than in the first game... for example there were a lot of hidden Springboards that required really finicky aiming and angles, but now that that's just a matter of holding down Jump, it opens up the possibilities right away.

Some of the routes I see people taking are just insane. Really interested to see some of the time trials people create with the full city.

They need to fix coiling though.

Is the beta saving my progress or will i have to start from scratch if i exit the game and reboot?

Damn what a long beta but i freaking love it

It saves.

That makes a bit more sense. I was holding R2 to whole time assuming that it's a run button.

It's not explained well in-game, IMO. I was confused before I figured it out, too.

Are there any good graphical comparisons between Battlefield 4 beta vs release graphics? Did a quick google search and didn't find much. Would be nice to get a sense of how much of an improvement I can expect DICE to make for Mirror's Edge.

i'm still confused as to how the skill roll works while sliding. someone pls explain.

When you slide under something or just slide, hit the right trigger(shift mode?) mid slide and you will roll forward. This gives you a bit more forward momentum and speed out of a slide that you don't get out of a standard slide.

You talking about the building where Birdman is at? Cause hell yeah that was pretty cool. It nice that they are still using the logo as a hint that a runner bag is near by.

Also has anyone been getting these really dark shadows at times, where some objects and NPCs are pitch black? Don't know what causing it, through it doesn't happen so often.

I might test around with the options and controller more, but think I pretty much done with the beta otherwise. I shall continue to look forward to the return of Mirror's Edge, and this has some really nice potential.

Cool, Nvidia's shit current drivers that were forced on me to play this crashed my system as usual, and that somehow corrupted the save (even though it was mid time trial where there's no reason for that to happen). I really wanted to explore the mechanics and try and get some #1 times but I don't think I'll bother now I have to replay everything and there's a chance it'll happen again. I've already seen enough to be sold on it anyway.

Guess I should report this if there's a chance it could happen in the full game (and if Nvidia drivers are still broken by then).
Which driver / OS / card? I had 0 crashes in 7 hours of play while alt-tabbing constantly with the .72 drivers, Windows 7 64-bit home premium, and a GTX 770 2GB.

Game looks and sounds great. Don't like movement skills being unlocks at all. When you are cruising doing momentum take downs the game is great. When it slows me down and puts me in a fight with dudes its bad. Like the setting of the game and the setup for the plot but the dialog is cringe worthy. The exchange Faith has with leader guy (forget his name) made me roll my eyes.

Anyways I got a PC code, anyone want it? PM me i guess?

I'm kind of interested in where the story goes. It hasn't bothered me too much, but Mirror's Edge 1 didn't bother me too much either.

I should have added permanently. Those teleport you back when you finish them.
Someone else had the same problem and I think was going to report it on the closed beta forum. Your best bet is teleporting to a safehouse / dash / time trial and quitting in the middle if that's possible. Otherwise, especially if you're stuck in a blue area with shadowy people, I think you're doomed.

That teleports me back. And I'm actually not in one of those areas, I got into this place 100% without any glitches, there's just no way out.
And restarting doesn't get you out?
Nope.

Any particularly cool areas to explore? Finished the beta and want more excuses to run around the city.

Edit: Also, I'm assuming it isn't possible to ger back to the tutorial area?

Well I dug this more than I thought I would. I think it looks pretty good, too. Once you get a handle on the controls...pretty fun how it flows.

This is by far the blurriest game i have ever seen on my ps4 and a perfect example that a too aggressive post process aa can destroy the whole look of a game. This game looks so soft and blurry!! And that has nothing to do with 900p, its the super aggressive FXAA they are using! Super disappointed with the iq.

There's some really fucking blurry TAA going on, it's nuts. And I can't figure out a way to disable it on PC.

You can get underneath this balcony by hanging on the rails and then dropping.

I thought I was stuck down here but you can actually get out.

Just stand on the rail and edge backwards until you can grab the rail up top.

But to get down there in the first place you have to be really curious/bored.

Looks more like TAA with some of the smearing I've seen going on. 100% awful on the console version. If I ever buy this I'm going to get it on PC.

I just realized I never got a stupid email despite being a "frontrunner." Good thing so many people were giving codes away. :p

The mouse and keyboard controls feel a lot worse than the ME1 mouse and keyboard controls
In what way? I'm not fond of holding space to jump, but it has its benefits. The rest feels good to me, similar enough to ME1.

Unless you mean the mapping -- yes I'm definitely going to remap crouch to shift for example.

It's the holding space to jump that's getting to me. Can't seem to flow as well as I did with ME1 yet.

Perhaps I'll get use to it.

You can double tap to do it as well. I think I need a new keyboard where space is more comfortable to hold.

One of the benefits that ExMachina showed off in a video is that you can sometimes do normal jumps without the springboard boost. I think this may actually keep momentum higher?

Also, when you need to springboard, it's easier. In the first game there were tricky springboard jumps where you had to have the perfect angle.

Hmmm... I hear a lot of people saying that graphics is incredible on PS4 and while it's true when it comes to characters, some parts of the world looks simply awful, rough edges etc. Am I the only one seeing it?

FPS drops very often for me as well on PS4... flow of the game is amazing but those interuptions caused by constant frames drops are a bit annoying.
