iOS Gaming April 2016 | Fool's Gold

What are some good PC > iPad games besides Hearthstone, Papers Please, Don't Starve, Her Story and Door Kickers?
FTL, Baldergate series, Please don't touch anything, Lumino City. There's lots more but my brain is just not working at the moment. MB should know a bunch of them.

Alright....SuperTribes is amazingly good. Think simplified Civ that you only get to play for 30 turns . Exploring, researching tech, gathering resources and building an army. You play for the highest score possible. Works incredibly well and it's free. Only IAP is to unlock 3 different starting tribes (in addition to the 4 already given to you). I bought the extra tribes because the developers definitely deserve it.

Everyone should at least check it out

Yeah. It's excellent. Every game is different. My first game was a breeze, but my second game set me up right next to an Orkur settlement and demolished me. Very fun and simple little game. Oh, and it's free.

It's a wonderful game. I just wish they kept improving on stats. I took them a little while to put in high scores. I want them to also do a cleaner job of showing the stats for each civilization at the end of the game and not just my number.

Finally got around to getting the iPad/Universal version of Nitrome's Icebreaker, and playing it again, I still think it's the best game Nitrome ever released on mobile and one of the best puzzlers on the platform. The sheer variety and clever challenges they squeezed out of the simple ice-slicing mechanic is just incredible

Oh wow, Joan Mad Run is releasing next month. I remember playing an early alpha all the way back in 2013. Was sure the game was dead

It's from the devs of Tomb of the Mask

In currently obsessed with Fallen London.
(Yesterday update solved all the app issues)

On an unrelated note, Obsidian Pathfinder Adventure card game (due out TOMORROW) has been delayed, again :(

Goo Saga is out on iOS.

Highly recommend this game. Very polished and charming platforming with physics aspects. I mentioned Leo's Fortune before and it's not quite a mobile classic like that was, but it is IMO more challenging with more replayability as well.

This also differs from that game with more multipath exploration elements as well. Easily one of my favorites platformers on iOS in some time.

Edit: sorry, that link I had isn't working but you should be able to pull it up if you search the store.

How long are the levels? 20 levels seems kind of short

The first few are shorter, but the rest are quite long. I haven't yet finished TBH. There's also a survival mode for each level (finish without dying once) and a time trial mode.

There's also a level editor which I haven't tinkered with yet.

I should mention that there is an RPG like skill system as well, but in order to even get crystals to get or enhance those skills, you have to pass all three modes for each level.

So there's plenty of content and replayability IMO.

I am LOVING Super Tribes, it's exactly what I needed on my mobile. The game is always a bit different and no matter how unfortunate your map is there's always a way to turn the gameplay in your favour if you're smart enough. I bought all extra tribes for support because the devs definitely deserved it.

I wish there was an option to expand even more beyond 30 turns, and that graphics as well as UI was bit more polished but hopefully there will be a sequel in the works. last time I enjoyed a title like this was probably a Kairosoft title.

Can someone help me find the game I am looking for? I have seen it on both TV and others playing it. It's a game where tiles are coming down from the top and then you have to tap them without missing. I don't know if it is a rhythmic game.

Can you remember anything else? A lot of different games fall under that umbrella

Thanks. Meant to come back to post that.

I'm now kind of wishing I had waited for the iOS version. I'm finding that my Shield Tablet is really getting hot as the levels get more difficult and longer. The second boss in particular.

Might end up double dipping at some point. The developer is very responsive to criticism in reviews on Google Play so I let him know there (wish iOS had the ability for devs to respond to some of the idiotic reviews on the App Store. It's a nice feature.)

Where are they saying that? Do you have a link?

PG (in an article I think killercow wrote :) ) mentioned a response from the devs on Twitter.

Personally, I'd love a surprise port of something like Rogue Squadron or even one of the old X-Wing games. Would kill for a good Star Wars dogfighter.

Edit: He beat me to it!

Eh eh eh, that's entirely correct :)

Would love to see more of the old star wars games, more so than KOTOR II to be honest.

So did no one buy Goo Saga? Or is everyone who did not as impressed as I have been by it?

I brought it, mixed feelings about the game. When it all works it is good fun but too many times I've found the controls to be super unresponsive, to the point where sometimes I have pressed 'left' and the goo just refused to move until I lifted my finger and taped again.

Strange. I have the Android version and never had any control issues. Wonder if there's a bug in the iOS version.

Wow. Star Knight is already down to $.99. Ashame, it's a really good hack n slash platformer.

Check it out if you haven't already.

Are there any good mech/giant robot games on iOS? I don't really care about a genre that much, but would prefer premium apps rather than f2p stuff like Walking War Robots.

I just switched over to an Android phone, but I went through and entirely repurposed my iPhone 5 into a game device. I've got a lot of unfinished good stuff on there and I'm really pretty excited to get into things.

I reinstalled Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and I'm a little confused because it seems to work just fine? I thought it was broken on iOS9. I was able to download it, start it, and run around the town, and everything felt as good as ever. Was it patched? I really hope it was. I don't think its back on the store, but anyone who already bought it might want to give it a go.

Fire Emblem on iPhone this fall!!!!!!

Hoping it won't be just a tie in but a full fledged game, I'm already in hype mode.

Also, Animal Crossing apparently.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
Animal Crossing on phones could be perfect.

Would prefer FE stay on premium, dedicated handhelds but what can ya do.

Be prepared for a new and exciting take on Clash of Clans.

They said in the PR it will be something a little more casual and I doubt they will go premium.

I'd love full fledged versions of both franchises but I suspect the chance of either happening would be almost zero sadly, for two reasons:

1. Nintendo will want people to buy 3DS and the NX handheld if/when that releases, so I think they'll be extremely hesitant to put out mobile games that offer a similar level of experience to either of those systems.

2. 3DS games here are £40 - I think the chance of an iOS game selling in huge numbers for £40 is slim to say the least, although maybe Nintendo are hopeful their name and the game franchises will sell no matter the price being much higher than typical iOS games. The alternative is they're happy to sell at lower prices than 3DS software, but that feeds back into argument 1 - if I can get a full version of FE / AC for less money, it reduces the reason to buy the 3DS / NX versions.
