Never heard of that first game, but yeah I also forgot about Paper Mario. Thanks for the heads up.
Threatening? Really? They are walking on thin ice though. Look at Wii U sales.
Neither have the people in Japan
It could be good to have some build-up to 2017 holiday season.
There will be stuff revealed at e3 for holiday season, no doubt. They usually announce software closer to release than others.
Go dig through my post history if you really feel like it, champ. People were shouting down anyone suggesting a 2017 date. You know first-hand how crazy those speculation threads get.
Huh. Assuming the console+handheld hybrid buzz is true, I guess they'd be releasing simultaneously rather than staggered like some rumors had it?
Yes! For once I was fucking right. I knew the NX wasn't coming out this year, it seemed way too soon to replace the Wii U. Take your time with this one Nintendo, PLEASE take your time.
Looks like the wii-Gamecube transition with games for both platforms, nothing new.
Do you really think that all 12 million WiiU owners only own a WiiU? That they don't own a 3DS, or god forbid, a PS4?
So, 3rds don't make any more games next year? Is this the reason why the next CoD is called "Infinite", because, being the last CoD you'll play it forever?
Sometimes i really want to witness the thoughts of you guys when you come up with such bullshit predictions. From "Thing releases March 2017" to "This translates to bad 3rd party sales and thus no support at all. Fact" is really interesting.
This is how I feel as well. Nintendo has the franchises, but the games seem still like they are out of another era.
For example, Pokemon, I was blown away by Ni No Kuni and then going back to Pokemon, Pokemon just seems completely ancient in comparison.
Zelda? With Action RPG's being one of the strongest AAA franchises these days, this next Zelda better be off the rails crazy and perfect in every way, because it's competing with games like The Witcher 3 and Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, that is the quality people expect out of action RPG/Action adventure games these days.
Mario, Mario's up against a huge resurgence in platformers thanks to the indie boom and ones that are far, far more experimental than Mario is.
Seriously, one of the biggest mistakes Nintendo has ever made, was not supporting indie developers. It should have been the entire focus with the Wii, but famously, indie devs found it hard to get on the system or past it's ridiculous limitations (40mb downloads)
Guess that's why they plan a NX event, right?Oh my. Launching a console 10 months after a no-show at the largest and best covered media related gaming convention in the entire world is more than a little surprising. Gamers just straight didn't turn up for the Wii U, and with the decline of the handheld market, I just don't think Nintendo can launch a home console against the PS4 on brand strength along. They needed the coverage, energy and pandering that E3 provides in spades. And that's not even factoring in the PS4K, PSVR or Xbone.5.
In a market, where "Remastered" versions of games not even one year old are selling, a late(ish) port can do so, IF the port isn't gimped in any possible way. Also, no one stops 3rds from simply adding some DLC on the disc, and call it "Definitive Edition", and release on all consoles at the same time. And you think Nintendo would only get older ports, and not any multiplatform games releasing in 2017? Hell will freeze over, but 2017 will have it's own FIFA, MADDEN, CoD.lol -- I'm not sure why my prediction is bad. My post is pretty clear. I never said companies will stop making third party AAA games. Companies will continue on making third party AAA games for Xbox and PlayStation.
A March release date is terrible for the NX in terms of third party support though. Again, how many people do you really think will wait 3-4 months to play Holiday 2016 multiplats while MILLIONS of other people play and talk about them on systems that may possibly be cheaper? Low games sales lead to low game support.
People still holding out hope that the NX will completely change Nintendo's multiplat gaming situation in the home console space should move on. It was already going to take a miracle for it to happen but now it's almost impossible due to the March release date.
Once AMD implied one of the new consoles would be released in 2017, I imagined it would be the NX.
The timing seems just horrible, releasing after the PS4K and PSVR and so long after the WiiU was pretty left for dead.

I doubt it. We already have a month so why should we be exited about a day? They have to at least announce the reveal date for the NX at e3... right? RIGHT?
Zelda getting delayed this long typically means trouble development. That is what happened with SS.It is possible it was delayed just because of the NX, but if their plan from the start was to release the NX in March 2017, I can't imagine that would be a good idea. It would have been better to release it in the end of 2017, and have an ultimate edition or whatever at NX launch like Sony did with tLoU
To me, the news today indicates that Zelda has had similar development troubles, or the NX was originally going to come out in 2016 (or both)
They actually haven't announced what all they're doing at E3 only that Zelda will be the only playable game there. PR even states to wait for further announcements about their plans at E3.

Sony held their own event for the PS4, I think it's fine if Nintendo do the same?
I'm a bit surprised at the release date though unless they are holding out for new tech that isn't ready to go live this year. If the console comes out with this year's tech, or even older I'll be surprised then at this decision.
Overall not really getting too much of the blowback. The Wii U is dead and was dead irrelevant of when the NX comes out.
I guess given Nintendos current position it might have been best to go all out at E3 rather than wait longer for another event, or their own event. Still we don't know everything behind the scenes... In saying that though Nintendo have been a bit daft with some of their decision making for a while. Seems they struggle to adapt to change in the way the other companies do.

Gives me more time to work on my 3DS and U backlogs.
I'm okay with this.
Perhaps the smartphone apps will carry them through. What a god damn joke, thats all this shit has to be right? A joke? Because certainly a multi billion dollar corporation enjoys earning money. They are going to have another embarassingly barren year because of this.
The poster in question doesn't even own a Wii U, saying Nintendo released mediocre games this gen and borrowed a friend's Wii U that was full of dust.
Nintendo has a userbase of 70m if you combine 3DS and Wii U to worry about, these posters aren't aligned with reality. It's OK if you feel you're done with Nintendo, but the "shot themselves in the foot" comments don't hold until we know for a fact that NX and their mobile adventures failed to meet expectations which will take awhile.
Zelda delayed AGAIN? So are we going to throw a tantrum like in every uc4 thread?
This E3 could be awesome for nintendo if they build the hype with NX games trailers and teasers. I'm ready to jump on board that train.
Edit: i really don't think they will not show anything at E3, that would be a disaster.
Haven't read much of this thread at all so maybe I'm just repeating everyone else, but all this seems extremely concerning to me for the NX. Not just because March doesn't seem a great time to launch a new console vs Christmas (although I may be wrong, marketing experts come at me), but because that weird date makes me think the NX and its games could be behind schedule, or Nintendo are having some doubts about it, or trouble getting everything in place for launch. I'd actually feel better were the console delayed until the end of 2017, because it'd feel more like they were giving it plenty of time to get ready. March 2017, to me, feels like the sort of date that's the earliest they feel they can realistically release it, with something of the panic about it. Of course that's entirely my own baseless speculation, but the announcement inspires absolutely zero confidence - or even negative confidence, creating doubts that didn't exist before.
I admittedly had no plans to get an NX at launch anyway given how both the 3DS and Wii U prices dropped precipitously in the year that followed (and without many games released during that time) but everything about this, right down to the weird 'only Zelda at E3!' thing (maybe they took the reaction to Paper Mario to heart and are making some changes? Doubt it, but am struggling to think of a different reason it won't be playable) feels like a looming catastrophe at a time when Nintendo need to be inspiring confidence more than ever among investors, developers and customers. Again, none of this is based on anything real and I may be completely wrong or my feelings of dread in a minority of one, but... ouch. Not good at all, IMO.
I'm nowhere near done with Nintendo. Nowhere did I say I was. My stance is that, despite the fact that their games are selling well and Amiibo's are doing well, the demand for their hardware is decreasing year on year.
That doesn't mean they're doomed. It just means...well...like I said, their hardware business has a bleak future.
