Nintendo @ E3 - No Direct, Just Zelda Treehouse Stream

This move actually makes sense to me. If Nintendo showed all of their 2016 games, their lineup would look even more anemic than 2015, and everyone would complain about a lackluster showing. By announcing that they're only showing Zelda, they ensure that the disappointment hits now, so most of the new opinions being voiced when E3 actually happens will be about how good Zelda is.

I've never wanted to sell my Wii u so badly. But I'd miss Mario maker in the long run (even though I haven't played it in months)

Now it really feels like a bad dream.

Only Zelda?! No new 3DS games/announcements to show off as well? Pokemon? wtf kinda show is Nintendo running this E3?

Might as well just not show up at all.

So does this mean no Nintendo World Championship as well?

This is arguably the most disappointing part given that "something went wrong with NX" theory seemed to be a given through quite a moment already. Of course there wouldn't be announcements, maybe with exception of some minor stuff like Mother 3 or last minute port of F-Zero or Mario Sunshine or something like that. But they could make a competition event at least.

Well this certainly falls in line with the "We aren't competing with Sony and Microsoft" narrative that they pushed during the Wii U years.

Bit early for this, perhaps?

Hard to tell who is joking anymore. As if nintendo basically backing out of E3 means anything other than 'they weren't ready' or 'they want to do their own thing.'

Clearly everyone at nintendo is a big stupid dummy and should be fired for not entertaining us on E3 week.

Same. But playing Mario Maker can be such a pain in the butt sometimes, especially when you play the 100 Mario Challenge. You literally have to skip every single level since most of them are extremely bad, trollish or just plain kaizo/impossible to beat. I haven't enjoyed a single playthrough of 100 Mario Challenge because of that.

What's with all the sudden Kimishima hate? Did he come out and say all of Nintendo's latest decisions were his doing lol

As someone who isn't that big on Zelda, this news really bums me out. I was underwhelmed with Nintendo at last year's E3 but I'd rather have a decent digital event than no digital event. Besides Sony's Press Conference, it looks like I don't have much to look forward to at this year's show. :/

Truth be told, this fits Nintendo to a t.

They have been ducking from everyone for a very long time.

After gc, they gave up on trying to compete with hardware vs ms and Sony. They hit a home run with the Wii, but it was obvious they gave up on trying to compete.

Then came Wiiu and again they give up before the gen starts by matching near decade old machines. Not to mention online and account that is sub par.

Now comes e3 and Nintendo looks like they are so scared of the competition that they are only going good to show one game.

People will be asking about NX. They will badger Nintendo. They will hound 3rd parties.

I don't see how Nintendo can be this far behind in development on NX that they abandon the games industries biggest event.

Also, Ms and Sony did not unveil their new consoles at e3, but they sure as he'll did not launch them without an e3 blowout.

I really doubt this has anything to do with being "scared".

Considering NX is less than 12 months away, you would think they would want to start the momentum for fans to get interested. I don't care for Zelda games so I guess I will skip it.

Same. They must think every Nintendo fan is a Zelda fan. Not the case. I really like A Link to the Past and I beat Twilight Princess but apart from that, Zelda just isn't my cup of tea. Let's even just forget the fact that Nintendo are only showing ONE game at E3. It could have been Splatoon 2 (huge fucking fan) and I'd still be like "Uh....that's it? Huh."

Wii was initially kickstarted by an amazing E3 conference, which was especially strong in its direct competition with Sony's PS3 showing.

Too advanced for them... smoke signals.
Come on. That could reach too many people at once. Dangerous.

They're going to go for pure word of mouth. Kimishima will tell some rando on the streets of Japan, then they tell a friend, then they tell someone else...

We'll all find out someday!

Looks like that twitter rumor of Nintendo basically wanting to skip e3 was true, though they'll still have the show floor I guess.

Very much looking forward to Zelda at E3; really don't understand why people are confused about the approach here. The Wii U launch was a messaging disaster that never recovered. Nintendo will tightly control all aspects of the NX announcement at events of their choosing, akin to the way Apple has done it for years. Nintendo isn't Apple (herp) so this may be a miscalculation, but that remains to be seen.

We've seen what, 30 seconds of Zelda so far? We don't even have a subtitle! This is going to be so cool...

Nintendo said it themselves a while back so it wasn't a rumor unless you're referring to something else.

Man, I am looking forward to this E3! We will see something cool, there is no other choice (well, except for a complete failure). And I think there will be Nintendo Direct before it. Speaking of Direct, NIntendo fans have every now and the a little bit of E3. I really, really do not need Nintendo to do big, crazy E3 presentations. Nintendo Direct made me screaming in front of my PC so many times.
Do annual Nintendo World Championships, and I won't need E3 presentations. Treehouse and Direct are good.

It was a twitter thing. Somebody who said metroid prime would come back "in a disappointing way" at e3 2015 said that Nintendo was considering skipping E3 this year because they had nothing ready. I guess it was confirmed already, but the fact that they aren't even having a Direct just emphasizes it further. Although as far as official reasons for skipping E3 they just said they want people to be "immersed in the Zelda experience" lol.

Delaying the Nx is probably the reason for this.

I'm surprised they don't want to show off at least Pokemon as well even though it is not usually done at E3.

I hope they show off a lot of Zelda as I have been waiting for information for a long time. I also hope it looks good.

Wii was initially kickstarted by an amazing E3 conference, which was especially strong in its direct competition with Sony's PS3 showing.

They managed to go head to head at an E3 with the direct follow up to one of the best selling consoles of all time and came out of it looking pretty good. Yet there is now some narrative that they are trying to do their own event to avoid being drowned out by updated consoles that have seen a pretty negative reaction and a wildcard VR at the totally irrelevant E3. Not buying it. This site is a fucking hype fest around E3, the hype is palatable in every thread outside of Nintendo related threads where all that is so irrelevant. Yeah right.

They should just cancel the entire thing. Don't even show Zelda. This is Nintendo sticking their head in the sand and pretending like nothing is wrong.

As much as i really really like zelda, this is terrible. Just give me a trailer and ill be fine. Zelda isnt the only nintendo franchise i care about and this is really going to overhype the game
